This has been very very helpful. i recently took on the role of Executive Assistant to the Director of our company, and often times i get confused as to what is expected of me, this video has helped me clarify on so much. Thank you again.
As a virtual executive assistant for 7 years I handled several projects already and worked with wonderful clients. I started as an appointment setter for a NJ Realtor and worked really hard to the point I went the extra mile to make sure that his business was always ahead of the competition and we surpassed our targets. Because of that I got promoted as a team leader and then later on as an business development manager and from being his only one VA. We grew to 20 VA's.
@lesliewong How did you start a career as a virtual assistant and find clients ? It seems like a fascinating career. Do you bill by the hour or have a monthly flat rate for clients?
Thanks so much, I am a director of a business and decided to hire a pa, I did not know how to differentiate her between the roles you just mentioned and had her do all my work, I can’t believe how much of a mistake that was, I am going to correct it now and learn more about each role because I see now that she is actually an executive assistant
If there were more Executives / Directors like you around, it would make an EA and their Executive's life so much easier. Good luck with it... and thank you so much for your comment.
Thanks for the clarification! Now I just need to know how to be one 🥲 I'm doing a pretty unrelated degree in uni... International Relations, I tend to specify in Diplomatic Administration later, which focus on event organisation and diplomatic etiquette. I speak 2 foreign languages and currently learning office skills, maybe I should sign up for professional training too. I'm not sure people would hire me as an assistant since I don't study business 😔
I would say, find the Executive Assistant job that you think you have 60% of the skills for and apply. Keep applying, a company may take you on, in fact I'm sure they will if you apply. We all started somewhere :)
Hello, I want to know whether the skill of shorthand is still used in Australia for job roles like : personal secretaries, assistants, legal or medical transcriptionists, journalists, etc.
Hi, greetings from Washington DC EA! I have a question for all ES’s - do you help your executive with his personal life tasks? Examples- New home purchases, taking his car to was/maintenance, research for his kids needs… I am the position in the moment where my CEO is heavily using me for his personal things and need help to define where I should draw a line. Thank you all in advance in case you decide to help me here 🤗
Aleksa, I have done this in previous positions, usually if the person you work for is the owner of the business but it is unusual if you are working for an executive in a corporate company.
Hmmm, I have never heard that term before however I just googled it and it looks like they deal more with data... see definition 'An administrative analyst performs a variety of clerical, data research, and information analysis tasks for a business or organization. As an administrative analyst, your job duties include preparing statistical information, researching accounting data, and producing reports based on your research.'

Thank you for your comment... the other one you might find helpful is what to do do in the first 90 days. Wishing you the very best with your new role
Is being an EA hard work?

That's a wonderful story Leslie... well done to you. We are very versatile and can fit into any role. Congratulations.

No it's not... it hasn't been used since the 80s unfortunately.

All I can say is keep trying.
My employer has told me that my title is Administrative Analyst. Is this the equivalent of Executive Assistant?
