Christian actually doesn't make that much money off of each car sold because he pays his engineers/staff so much to continue research and development. Such a humble guy that enjoys his hobby and looking into new ideas and thresholds
I imagine that the tooling required to make a tire of this caliber is well into a million dollars. For a big company to dedicate their equipment and talent into it, it’s well worth that price. When they expect to only produce a couple hundred sets, then it gets very very expensive. Koenigsegg can afford it. However when you’re only selling 80 two million dollar cars, 1 million dollars for tires is far too much to justify. Their approach as a partnership rather than an exclusive product makes a lot more sense. Whether I have my numbers right or not is up to us to guess, but I think my hunch is in the right proportions. Tires making up 1% or more of the production cost wouldn’t work for a small company.
Max true, the guy could price tag his cars at 10 million and people would still line up to buy them. The one:1 is now selling for 12 in the aftermarket.
Makes the car usable for every day use, that is Christian's philosophy. When hammered, the car will eat rubber fast so it would be really impractical to be stockpiling exclusive tyre treads.
Matthew I’ve never heard of anyone hating a Regera? And they were $2.2m and this is nothing like a go-kart, if anything is, it’s the Agera due to the solid engine mounts...

You know, I used to think of Koenigsegg as just another supercar, but after wathcing this i realized how wrong I was. The attention to detail, and how its form follows the function, nothing superfluous , everything has been thought out and has a reason of being. This is the kind of car company you want to give your money to. What you are buying is not just a show piece, something to show off to other people, its a piece of art born from the dedication of the craftsmen. I am humbled just by watching this video.
Check out the DRIVE series on Koenisegg. This video just scatches the surface. He's an absolute perfectionist, involved at every level, but with the pragmatic focus of an engineer.
Koenigsegg seems like such a knowledgeable and humble guy. Love his personality. Speaking of love, I’d love to see what his trick torque converter can do in F1 given their near seamless shifts.
Just how they make all their own carbon parts and then have the weaves line up between body parts, if you start thinking about it your head explodes.. Being so small, doing so much themselves ánd delivering world class products is really a special thing. They have kept improving and getting more refined since the dawn of the company. He's only 46 now and Koenigsegg is 24 years old already, so crazy..

The fact that this car is able to achieve such stats with EPA compliant exhaust, and regular fuel really pulls back the curtain on the whole performance industry.
Had a mid 80's chevy sprint turbo that got 62 mpg's. Replaced the turbo with an audi 1.8l turbo and stroked the compression to 10.1:1. I was smoking 5.0 mustangs all day long and still got 48 mpg.
@@kalanhitchens9657 any fully homolgated car does that. The Koenigseggs have 1000+hp and manage to meet emissions regulations, the C8 does not have 1000+hp.

Yeah, there are a lot of benefits to basing the engine parts on a Ford V8. Parts availability for the customer being number one. Kind of like Lotus using Toyota engines. I would think it would put potential customers at ease.
@@jeffk464 Not the same for this car. I don't think anything from ford fits in this car, The bore and stroke might be different. It's like saying AK parts fits in a Galil.
It’s not. It uses over 600hp of electric power. Plus all those peak numbers are basically achieved by cheating with ethanol fuel. Reason why his records aren’t officially recognised by Guiness for example.
Yeah, i mean the bugatti is alot heavier even excluding the engine due to the luxuries added, but that doesnt make beating it a small task and its really amazing for a company like theres
Use to be mine too. But not anymore. Tesla is now. Elon Musk is so badass. And I own a Tesla. In many ways my Model 3 is much better than the Regera. And I can't afford a Koenigsegg right now. Little stretch lol
@Finest How are you gonna compare a hyper luxury car to a Tesla model 3? Arguably the most boring and ugly Tesla ever. Yeah it’s a better everyday family car that nobody cares about just like any other normal car. At least compare cars with cars that were intended for the same purpose and market man.
Yeah, but with Christian, he's a cool enough guy that he's let just about every decent car vlogger to interview him, show them around his cars and/or plant if they make the trip, etc.. This Regera has literally been in at least 5 channels this month. Awesome guy Christian, awesome company!
Only Jay Leno could compare the feeling of direct drive to that of both jet turbines and steam engines and know exactly what he’s talking about because he’s driven all three lol
I’ve personally met him and he is as kind and humble as he seems. I was with a military unit in an airport and he approached us and said hello. Only 2 of the 20 of us knew who he was, but he just came over to greet us. I got his autograph on a photo of an Agera he had in his bag. Great guy! It’s so awesome to see Jay so impressed with a vehicle. He’s seen it all and owns half of them and is also a gracious and humble man. It’s my dream to meet Mr Leno someday.
I love the presence that Mr. Koenigsegg gives, humble, modest, also seem determined at the same time. He also giving the presence of a leader who always put his employees first over anything else. Yeah, a leader, not a boss. I honestly would love to work with him making those rims even if it’s underpaid.
Some people said that CVK wasn't rich, because the money the company get for each car are significantly distributed for his "colleagues". But he certainly is wealthy; the Koenigsegg brand -- which includes the company's expert employees -- are definitely worth billions.
Eddie, he might not be an engineer, but he's a visioner who put sall his focus on the right goal and effectively directs bunch of skilled people towards this goal. Besides, he's perhaps the most knowledgeable CEO in regards to the technical solutions applied in the cars produced - he is not fixated in the business or marketing layer only. He has a complete right to take the credit for each and every car his company has produced. There's nothing wrong in being proud.
so u think he's just sleeping while hundreds of employees create a new car...? when this man isn't traveling around the world for inspiration/business activities he is working and brainstorming on new projects..
Not many 60+ year old people in general wearing Gucci belts are there? I'm sure when you see young rich people you'll see much more ostentatious clothing. When you get older you tend to focus on the things that really matter. But yeah, it's all about race.
What this guy has accomplished is almost unimaginable. I think this company and its tech and accomplishments is underappreciated in the car world in general. I mean, all this and all done IN HOUSE! Its insane. Bravo.
The sheer amount of pride and dedication you can hear from Koenigsegg's voice is pretty cool. You can tell the guy has poured his heart into his cars. He and his employees have every reason to be commended for the magnificent cars they're able to create.
This is what a true genius looks like today! An Inventor, a Proper mechanical engineer, a manager, successful business owner, an educator, a role model, a salesman and above all a decent human being. But despite these qualities, never sitting still, constantly reinventing himself everyday without forgetting his roots. Real class act this guy!

@@Elias_g1 Matter of opinion. I don't particularly care for the "biohazard sign" look either. If you like em tho, more power to ya fam! I can understand why.
Heh, as if the Veyron/Chiron are not also incredibly engineered cars. If you cannot appreciate those cars, then you really do not appreciate advanced engineering at all.
I don't think so. Both cars are master pieces in their own way. An Egg is not as reliable as a Bugatti, they tend to have problems after a couple of months
RASM_ Bugatti focuses on luxury while still having the performance, The Bugatti Chiron ride quality has been compared to that of Rolls Royce while in the most comfortable setting and also being able to feel every crack in the road while in its track mode, The Regera is a very nice car don't get me wrong but when it comes to luxury, comfort, and reliability so far the Chiron is miles ahead of the Regera, it's like comparing the luxuries of a Ford platinum Expedition to a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S
Best guest ever! I could listen to Christian all day! He's a great interview, knows his product inside and out and a fantastic salesman too. There's a reason why he's so successful. You just about hit the nail on the head. Christian is a salesman and a businessman. he really is not an engineer at all. His engineering team comes up with all the ideas
Minor correction... They don't look "like art." They are the pinnacle expression of what art is. The true encompassment of form and function. The beautiful flowing body lines are an expression of the cars ability to generate down force and therefor its handling.
I like how he admits that when they started they based their engines on ford, some companies who show their prototypes who obviously use an ls or another v8 they just don't admit it, respects to koenigsegg for being honest
A humble man never forgets where he came from. But then again it doesn't matter where you start, what matters is where you end up and what you learn from the journey.
The 4v 4.6 was a great engine. I have one in my 97 Cobra. He used it for a reason, they are lightweight for a DOHC, they are designed well, they handle a lot of HP, they rev smoothly, the bore and stroke are square, just overall a terrific engine. John Malkovich trapped over 250mph in the 1/4 mile with a factory Ford block, crankshaft, and heads out of a 96-98 Cobra, just ported and whatnot. That says a lot, we're talking 2500ish HP out of a 281c.i. engine!
Have seen a number of videos highlighting the amazing Koenigsegg automobiles, but what has struck me the most is the honest belief Christian has of his visions and how well the videos show that.
Gotta say, I've paid attention to Christian and his company since the beginning, and as an engineer myself, CAD/CAM/Solid Modeling expert, this guy is a genius. I can really appreciate what he does. In the beginning, there were plenty of skeptics all around, especially when it came to alot of his "claims or dreams". I think he's laid them all to rest. Props to a good guy who's doing what he obviously loves, and making a great return on it. If I had my choice of ANY car ever built, it would be one of his. I wouldn't even have to think about it.
stryker2828 - Pagani is more a kit car. AMG engine. Only real design contribution is the aesthetics. Koenigsegg on the other hand is more revolutionary and original -- and therefore much much better. Perhaps the comparison of Swedish/German (Germanic) and Japanese/Korean (Asian) brands versus French/Italian (Latin) brands illustrates the different motivations: substance versus style. Amongst French/Italian makers the only exception is the legendary Citroen DS (French) which is still the most revolutionary car ever made.
Oh I remember a documentary many years ago on Christian Koenigsegg (and his wife) when they had a Fire at the first factory. A disused Aircraft Hangar. Love the story of the Ghost logo they build into every car.

Christian von Koenigsegg, the kind of guy to sell a car for $2.2 million but still cares about tire prices
Max not too bad considering that the rs is reselling for $10mil+
@Manuel love the comment lol...unless you've been to Germany you just wouldn't understand!
Gotta love a guy that is this brilliant with his designs and this down to earth and accessible. Just seems like a good old fashioned real car guy.

The fact that this car is able to achieve such stats with EPA compliant exhaust, and regular fuel really pulls back the curtain on the whole performance industry.
Very true.
Had a mid 80's chevy sprint turbo that got 62 mpg's. Replaced the turbo with an audi 1.8l turbo and stroked the compression to 10.1:1. I was smoking 5.0 mustangs all day long and still got 48 mpg.

A "home-grown" V8 faster than a W16 by one of the biggest automakers in the world. What an achievement.

Years later this car is still out of this world.
The best thing about his cars is that they are near the pinnacle of performance yet they look like pieces of art. They are just beautiful.
Minor correction... They don't look "like art." They are the pinnacle expression of what art is. The true encompassment of form and function. The beautiful flowing body lines are an expression of the cars ability to generate down force and therefor its handling.
I like how it has curves instead of straight lines and sharp angles like many other super cars. Much more attractive.

That says a lot, we're talking 2500ish HP out of a 281c.i. engine!
At the start of the vid I thought it sounded kind of out of tune but of course I know it wasn't.

Drewg351 what do you think of Pagani?
stryker2828 - Pagani is more a kit car.
