Don’t forget the old system, it indirectly incentivizes growing a zombie horde the dump the whole mag or dump it strategically so you can finish with a melee. It also reduces the chance of your bullets missing a zombie when theirs a horde giving you much higher odds to earn points. With this new system I don’t recall ever creating a horde. As long as the zombie is dead you get your points so feel free to dump a whole mag on a zombie and get almost nothing from it. Zombie trains don’t make sense in this new system now, especially when you have that one sprinting zombie that’s basically begging to be killed so another reason not to train.
on top of that, it feel like they heavily reduced the collateral potential in the newer games which discourages training zombies even more. every zombie feels like a thick brick you're shooting at instead of a sponge bullets can go though like in the older games. @@RickGrimes-xz8skI’ll take Jimmy anyday of the week because he has that flare and spark. He’s got it in him. Kevin Drew… he hasn’t shown me anything except making me feel betrayed, witnessing a perfect system get turn upside down.
If you had 1 zombie left and needed something done like an EE step thats locked behind a door you're 20 points short for, you'd shoot the zombie twice in the leg or rebuild 2 barriers and buy the door. Now, you're forced to kill the last zombie and start a new round. I don't even remember seeing any rebuildable barriers in the newer games
With the new system it is possible to be stuck on a high round with no way of gaining new points. Therefor as you slowly drain away your ammo buying more in the process, if the zombies were to get to a high enough health you would be stuck in a cycle of loosing points for trying to kill the zombies and left knifing through the round. Granted, this is a highly unlikely situation but it is completely possible past a certain point. Example, in the older games high rounds would usually consist of having one cheap weapon to gain points and a wonder weapon to kill. The points were necessary to either recycle your wonder weapon for a new one to get ammo and/or to buy one of the traps. There are newer systems in the newer games like the ammo box however the situation of running out of points and ammo completely then being stranded on a high round left to knife is completely possible.
Honestly that's a bs reason, ngl. I don't care if your brother got yelled at one time, they fundamentally ruined a core part of zombies for literally no real reason. I guess it's probably a good thing his brother never picked up the game again because imagine if they let someone bleed out with the raygun 😭 ALSO it just sounds so fake. I've never in my years (since BO1) of playing zombies ever been yelled at for 'killing the zombies wrong' like what? He literally pulled that excuse out of his ass.
The players should learn and adapt to the system not have the entire system to suit the player. If anything new players should play solo until they actual learn to get to power and purchase jug. Thats the first thing I did exactly cause I didnt want people to yell at me for opening the wrong door. But then some of you guys are just legit jerks. Who cares if I open the first door in Kino on round 2. Be glad I volunteered to open it. Edit: the difference is the players who want to learn and get better and those who want the easy way out. And they are actively choosing the easy way as humans tend to do these days.
The sniper and shotgun argument had a clear alternative: receive a bonus for using them, saying like "enemy destroyed" or something like that, once a sniper or shotgun shot are more destructive in general
Imagine finding out you were the guy who accidentally got the zombies point system ruined because you rightfully yelled at some kid who was too stupid to know how to kill zombies correctly
Dog your getting mad at a kid who really didn’t know a lot about the mode and as ogs let’s not lie we didn’t hella dumb shit and let’s not act like we didn’t. Moral of the story is only real gamers wouldn’t care about how other people play and don’t get mad about their decisions. Some of y’all are b*tch made.
A fix for this is just making guns earn points as correlated to the health of the zombie you take from, so if you shoot 5 times each shot gives 10 points but then the melee gives 50 points less (on round one) and this would scale based on zombie health.
Aside from the points gain, a lot of the scary factor is gone ruining the general tone of the mode. It feels less like a holdout you cannot win while discovering details about the threat you’re fighting, and more like a side PvE mode for when you want something more replayable (and monetizable) than a campaign.
They could of just bumped up the points you get by explosive and one-shot kills. That's it! Changing an entire system for a "well, my little brother got bullied for not knowing this strategy" is stupid for me; because it's just an online thing. You will always encounter people that will criticize how you play, especially a team-oriented game.
He sees a system punishing you for not paying attention and rushing, i see a system that rewards you for paying attention and pacing yourself in a game where if you aren’t on top of things you are overwhelmed
Yk I’m sure when WAW was in development they totally had an exact conversation about this. In multiplayer points were already rewarded after a kill, but they decided not to go with that idea for zombies. I’d like to hear the original reason they were in favor of creating the old points system over using multiplayer. I feel like that would give more insight as to how fundamentally integral the old system was to zombies as a game mode.
Can we all agree that modern zombies isn’t made for the OG hardcore zombie player? Think about it, no one was complaining about the point system or the original formula and yet they changed it. It’s all part of their marketing strategy to turn the mode into something it’s not and to get more multiplayer/warzone players to play zombies. It’s okay if not everyone plays every game mode, most people have a favorite mode and play it more than the others. They’ve ruined zombies and I have little hope classic mode will come back.
I think the issue with the new point system is it kills variety faster than the old system ever did. While explosives, snipers, and shotguns suffered in the old system, a majority of the other weapons were viable because they could either build points, kill quickly, or both. I think a possible fix to the old system would be to have shotgun pellets each give 10 points rather than just the 10 points for the overall hit, and perhaps explosive firing weapons should give more points per kill (probably less than melee kills but fs not nerfed down to 50 like grenades and equipment are). To make snipers more viable just make the pack a punch variants more interesting, maybe explosive bullets like the mustang and sally or explosive with the monkey bomb effect like the scavenger, just give them more power and reason to be picked over something that builds points
They changed it because it made all weapons usable as weapons, do you remember everyone smashing shotguns in cold war? It wasnt just because they were more powerful, shotguns have been powerful since the start, but they never gave you the best points, as they kill zombies instantly When they made the kill give you max points, it made weapons like shotguns and snipers more useful all round, instead of just for power
I prefer the old point system because it created strategies. The new system forces everyone to play 1 way and 1 way only. Example: Old system: Players could use the pistol to get points and open the first few doors to a weapon they want or mystery box. Maybe open a door to a room they would like to survive it while getting more points for perks and pack-a-punch. New system: kill the zombies. You can’t get pack-a-punch till set round because you don’t have enough points to open certain doors till set rounds even with perfect headshots. Perks increase that time and buying any weapon from the wall or mystery box also slowed getting it. If you are lucky, double points will speed your process by 10%. Before, the gameplay wasn’t so mindless as the point system gave a reason to use certain weapons early and others later on. It also created some fun challenges like using weapons that wont get you much points only, like the shotgun. The new system barely has that dynamic and leans off of the loadout system to provide it. And lets be honest, who would want to buy a weapon from the wall or mystery box that has a x4-8 scope when their loadout has the perfect attachments and the game lets them upgrade the rarity? Between the two point systems I prefer the older one because it gives more dynamic gameplay, as different ways of gaining and using what you got is better than someone telling you, “Here is your small allowance. You can make it less but rarely ever will you double it. Try not to spend it all at once.”
I agree, new point system never bugged me too much. Just a bit. As you said, in higher rounds w the old system, points didn’t matter, so it didn’t affect your weapon choice. What bothers me is, what video game DOESNT have strategy? Skilled players should be rewarded with knowing the ins and outs, and although Kevin knew someone personally affected by this, how many players were they actually having to this issue? IMO seems more negative in the overall community making this change, just to retain a VERY small amount of players who this did affect.
WW2 zombies had one of the best points system even if it had a lot of other issues. They made shotguns viable in the points system by making it so that every pellet you hit with each shot gave you 10 points while also having good penetraition. If you shot a shotgun with 8 pellets per shot you could get 80 +50/90 (based on how you killed them) points per shot per zombie hit. I was happy to either start with or very early on buy a shotgun for point building on the final reich when the game launched.
his brother probably went around killing other peoples zombies and taking their points. And likes to play victim for doing so. .......... sickening. delete all early round strategy make 90 percent of guns irrevalnt.. Awesome choice... ruin the whole game, !!! perfect!! thanks!!
Ive seen an analysis, where they say that was just a way of him explaining how weird it was for beginners, and that was a trigger for him to start thinking on a new system. But, the real reason was a mix from "embrace a new public" and "change de power curve"
The power curve system argument is based on the fact that they wanted mini-bosses to show up in round 4 for example, but they needed to make sure people wont be frustrated for not having the necessary points to deal with it. This way, new players wouldn't like the game, because they wouldn't go further than the very early rounds
They change it because call of duty caters to whoever makes them more money. We the core zombies fan base are an aging population and are only growing fewer in number by the day. The only way they can justify continuing zombies is to cater to a new audience
Hate it. 13 year old me who had never played an FPS before could figure it out, everyone else can too. They could have just made shotguns give 5 or 10 points per pellet hit, with a max of like 30-50 points per shot. Couldve gave snipers increased penetration so one bullet could kill up to 6 instead of 3. Used to love playing Der Riese with an un-PaPed STG just to build up 3-400k points. Getting points was more fun than killing the zombies to me.
They changed more than point system. Health bars, no dogs, points, and no maps that FELT LIKE ZOMBIES. It feels like all multiplayer “turned zombies” its been horrible since bo4 i hated bo4
He has a point. Most wall weapons are never used because there's 1 or 2 "point gun" SMG's on every map. Why should the M14 make more points than the Olympia? Do you think you deserve more points because you're an "elite strategist" killing zombies in a convulted way?
Extinction never returned, IW can't do a fun spec ops anymore, SHG can't even do a 3rd mode and Treyarch can't do a proper zombies mode either. Game is full of bundles, ton of bugs, mp has sbmm and bad map layouts, every mode gets Warzone-ified and none of the recent games have their own identity.
I used to be a zombies casual until BO3 and compared to those games i really dislike the zombies now. I wasn't around for COD4 or WAW zombies cuz im 20 so I dont have much experience with the systems in zombies but the way zombies plays now feels dull and boring where the way the older games played, they had mystery and a good feel to them. I honestly believe this is apart of the reason COD is going downhill. The game is evolving to quickly instead of sticking with something for a couple games then moving to something new like they did up until CW and BO4.
Getting rid of the possibility of getting more points from a zombie killed the game for me. I loved min-maxing in the old games to get powerful as quickly as possible. Now the skill ceiling is much lower and every game is going to feel the same, I wish they would go back!
Removing the old point system removed a skill curve that allowed the player to get better. This in turn made the game less replayable. Also, why didn’t you use shotguns in bo3? They were so good for bosses
The new point system killed the use of all weapons except shotguns. Why shoot 50 bullets to get 100pt over 10 sec. When you can just shoot 1 bullet and get 100pt in 1 sec. So just take out all weapons and the box. They are not needed. You spawn in with a howa shotgun and never change it out. Because there is no weapon that's better, any ammo I just 500pts at a box.
Activision is starting to get on my nerves I got a permanent ban on the first day of the open beta weekend for no reason after that I was still able to play mw2 and 3 now suddenly as of yesterday it says I'm banned and I'm going to loose everything I have worked hard to earn and unlock over the years....
I think the new point system is definitely easier to understand for new players but it does remove a lot of the fun imo. One of my favorite things to do in the older zombies was to get as much done as early as I can. I liked being able to have all the rituals done on shadows by round 3 and working on the egg kills for the sword already because I played efficiently and tried to squeeze out as many points as I could. The new system makes playing efficiently for points mostly negligible because casual players will make almost as much without even trying. New system just removes a lot of the skill and fun for me
The old system was literally wayyyy simpler lol every hit 10 points headshots 100 points melee 130 on top of the 10 points per hit the new system is wayy more complex
there is nothing to "understand" ............. anyone who cant "understand" the old point system shouldn't be playing video games to begin with they should be in a home.
Maybe instead of changing the whole system of points have skill based match making so new players will play with other new players and veteran zombies players can play with and rage at other veteran players
I hate how kevin drew and that one lady (from the podcast with dalek) are so smug and confident about the new systems and direction zombies is going, yet everyone hates the changes. And if you give any criticisms, they just disregard it as negativity when, in reality, we just want to play their game and enjoy it.
Yeah so I try to look at the point system from afar, how you earn points and how you spend them. The two big changes to spending points in the gameplay loop are PAP and perks. I can't wrap my head around PAP, but it's clear that the system change was to balance unlimited perk slots. The community has been asking for this and we got it. Treyarch want to increase accessibility, there may be perkaholics you can get for high rounding in BO6, but not everyone will get it from the RNG (I assume, maybe there will be like a cookbook thing later introduced) and giving the player the power to drink all they want changes the game. Is this a good thing?
Guys I don’t understand why we were ever so nice about them changing zombies for the sake of making it more inclusive to players from other modes. That was never a good reason to change something. So and so got yelled at and they never came back? He can learn and do better next time!
8:49 yes early game shotguns and snipers where bad. But after rd 25 they are needed for path clearance and fast kills. Making every gun viable and you needed strategy. Now there is only 1 gun viable it is the Howa shotgun. It kills the fastest, Same pts, kills armor enemies the fastest, you have more pts because you never have to buy a wall weapon or spin the box EVER. so no more strategy just spawn in with a howa shotgun and kill zombies until you get bored of playing. No challenge, no strat, no skill, just mindless 1 shoting zombies. Edit continue watching he made the same pt.
I don't think Kevin's reasoning is really a great one. Sure his brother shouldn't have been yelled at for how he was playing, but that's wherein the problem lies and i don't think it'll change in bo6. The problem is two different playstyle clashing with casual vs hardcore, one just want to kill zombies and camo grind while the other wants to engage with the other things zombies offer be it EE and whatnot which a lot of the time requires setting up and playing slower.
Zombies was ruined after BO1. Nothing ever hit those heights again. They ruined it with glowing purple Fortnite looking bullshit guns and taking all the horror and ambience out of it
‘Most efficient way to gain points’ is just so stupid because if you look at any single high round run, they aren’t maximizing points. Anyone ‘maximizing’ points are not as good as zombies as they think 😂
Ngl, I've been playing since WaW and honestly I don't mind the point change. I wish everything else stayed the same though. If anything they could have just made it where every shot gave the same points, but headshots provide more points.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, just because you do not like one of the zombies games, it does not mean it is bad, Cold War is my personal favorite, because it was casual enough that I could play it with my dad, also for bo4, I believe that if the maps came out in bo3 they would all be a-tier
Black ops 4 zombies was actually pretty decent 🤷🏼♂️
BO4 was fun and still felt like zombies. The new stuff just feels like Warzone
Don’t forget blackout and the armor system is why juggernog isn’t in bo4 which I’d say is one of the biggest sins of bo4
How does someone at Trayarch not show his little brother how to play ? What a loser !!
He should have told him this game isn't for you, stick with Fortnite
imagine being so bad at zombies that you need to destroy the entire game makeing it extremely easy to be playable 💀
Just cause bros brother got his feelings hurt

The old point system was so good too because if you wanted to switch out your Pap’d gun mid game you could grab one from the wall/box and save up very quickly to pap it since it takes more bullets to kill. It would’ve been great for Bo6, especially since you Pap 3 times, you’d never even CONSIDER changing guns once you pap’d already.

It's just not satisfying to clear a horde nowadays
So we're all punished for some idiots lack of knowledge, that's great

Not Treyarch changed it...
Kevin Drew did.
Everything has been downhill after BO3. Everything.
was disappointed with bo4 but even that game has better zombies than the new trash🙃
Some people act like the old system was rocket science.......
Everyone and their mom realized how it works after like 3 matches
Zombie without jason blundell is just a warzone 😢

It’s has happened
The players should learn and adapt to the system not have the entire system to suit the player.
If anything new players should play solo until they actual learn to get to power and purchase jug. Thats the first thing I did exactly cause I didnt want people to yell at me for opening the wrong door.
But then some of you guys are just legit jerks. Who cares if I open the first door in Kino on round 2. Be glad I volunteered to open it.
Edit: the difference is the players who want to learn and get better and those who want the easy way out. And they are actively choosing the easy way as humans tend to do these days.
Yeah, remember when people enjoyed learning the mode? What happened to that??🙄
Real ones dont care which door you open
I understand why it changed but it definitely takes away the strategic elements of it
Me personally, I don’t think they should’ve ever changed it.
Tbh I don’t mind the new point system but of course we all will miss the old and it probably will never come back 😢
In the old system, the worst guns were actually great for points, but now, they are just the worst guns 😢
The sniper and shotgun argument had a clear alternative: receive a bonus for using them, saying like "enemy destroyed" or something like that, once a sniper or shotgun shot are more destructive in general
I think this would be way better than the choosen path, it could even be implemented in old games like bo1 bo2 and bo3 and it would only improve
"Things are not EXACTLY the same as my childhood, therefore its bad."
Low key would love the idea of a inflation mode where the points stay the same but everything else is double the price
They changed it because it made all weapons usable as weapons, do you remember everyone smashing shotguns in cold war?
It wasnt just because they were more powerful, shotguns have been powerful since the start, but they never gave you the best points, as they kill zombies instantly
When they made the kill give you max points, it made weapons like shotguns and snipers more useful all round, instead of just for power
I prefer the old point system because it created strategies. The new system forces everyone to play 1 way and 1 way only. Example:
Old system: Players could use the pistol to get points and open the first few doors to a weapon they want or mystery box.
CoD BO6 is the last cod I buy, this company is such a disappointment, I didn’t bother buying MW2 and 3 and I’m glad I didn’t buy them
I agree, new point system never bugged me too much.
It’s funny because when I’m playing MW3 zombies I still have to carry the new players lmaoo
his brother probably went around killing other peoples zombies and taking their points.
I still don't think it's fair, once the power curve change didnt make it more fun, so, it was an empty chance in my opinion
I'd yell at someone for killing the last zombie when I'm holding it. That doesnt mean we shouldnt be able to hold zombies.
They change it because call of duty caters to whoever makes them more money. We the core zombies fan base are an aging population and are only growing fewer in number by the day. The only way they can justify continuing zombies is to cater to a new audience
Who ever yelled at his brother I hope your dinners for the rest of your life are always cold
L decision, his brother prob grew up, and has bigger balls now, change the point system back
So basically if u not gettin no kills or a teammate steals most of you’re zombies your broke thus u still get yelled at 🤦🏾♂️
Wouldn't his brother just get yelled at more for kill stealing and taking all the points instead of a portion of them now?
He has a point. Most wall weapons are never used because there's 1 or 2 "point gun" SMG's on every map. Why should the M14 make more points than the Olympia? Do you think you deserve more points because you're an "elite strategist" killing zombies in a convulted way?
You should not let anecdotal circumstances like this change how things function in a multi million dollar game
ARE you seriously telling me that the oldest system in cod zombies was changed because someone got his feeling hurt…
I liked the old point system because it worked well with starting with a pistol 😢
Always play solo before you play a Public match...DUHHHH
"Oh my brother got yelled at so we ruined the whole points system" dogwater company
That's the dumbest reason I've ever heard to change the point system
So if a player doesn’t know what to do on THEIR FIRST GAME it’s a bad thing ?
Honestly the points should be reworked if they stick with it, like a multiplier
The new system makes high rounds near impossible in the silliest way make the zombies hard? Sure but make it impossible to get points? Wtf
*my mum got shouted at for buying speed cola over jug as her first perk, so I spawned players in with all perks*
Oh no I got yelled at let’s change everything.
kevin’s lil bro got his feelings hurt💀
Maybe instead of changing the whole system of points have skill based match making so new players will play with other new players and veteran zombies players can play with and rage at other veteran players
I hate how kevin drew and that one lady (from the podcast with dalek) are so smug and confident about the new systems and direction zombies is going, yet everyone hates the changes. And if you give any criticisms, they just disregard it as negativity when, in reality, we just want to play their game and enjoy it.
I don't think Kevin Drew is disregarding the criticisms, there most likely others above him also ordering him around, so there's only much you can do.
They should make it where you make more points depending on how far you kill a zombie from and what part of the body
Long story short, Kevin can't tell his brother to get good, and so we must introduce a whole system just for him. Textbook participation trophy
or literally just spend 1 minute explaining the strategy, like everyone else that played eventually learned and was told.........
This isn't entirely true. The grenade launcher works for points in Cold War.
We can blame the devs for something 100% for, interesting.
They could bring the old system back then use the guided mode to explain to the casuals how they can maximize points
OG zombies point system was and is the BEST you took your time with each kill now you just chase down zombies quickly as possible too bad honestly
So the brother rlly ruined it bc he had a “bad” experience. Thats rlly stupid
