That's really interesting. I would have thought given the place of football in Texas that Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman would be at least as highly regarded. I guess Dirk performed on the court and did it with the minimum of drama off it, and that separated him.

Carried the Mavs without Mark Cuban getting any all-star teammate for basically all of his 21 year career in Dallas. And still give Dallas a championship with arguably the best run ever in the playoffs to win the title.
He definitely had allstar talent. Just never had them for very long. Nash, terry wasn’t actually an allstar but he was a 15-19 ppg scorer at his peak, Michael Finley, chandler was at his best in Dallas, he had Antwan Jamison for a lil bit, Josh Howard was a really good player and a one time allstar. Now u can say he didn’t have another superstar talent at their best next to him because all of his best talented teammates came late or early in their careers. But he definitely had a decent amount of above average talent around him that kept the mavs competitive. The just could never secure that consistent second star to pair with him.

While the traditional Centers are indeed dead now, the PF's of 2000's created new standards for bigs.
As a Mavs fan, here are my legitimate thoughts on Dirk. In the early 2000s, it was just fun to see the Mavs good again after a decade of being awful! They were also fun to watch as a fast-paced offensive team. But by the mid 2000s, it became apparent that defense was a weakness and exposed in the playoffs. Dirk was a good offensive player who seemed intimidated by long athletic defenders like Malik Rose and Sean Marion. After their 67 win season, they lost to an athletic Warriors team. That seemed like the last chance for Dirk to win. But they finally put some great defenders around him. I wasn't expecting what happened in 2011, but it was a combination of great team defense and Dirk's clutch scoring! And this was against teams with 2 or 3 super stars! The Lakers, Thunder and Heat! Arguably, one of the greatest playoff runs of all time! He became a legend at that point!

@@stashouse617 yeah that was all before they broke out especially NASH he didn't start Ballin til he got to the suns I'm talkin after Nash left bc that's when he started hitting his prime so you cut that out lol Finley was ite he wasn't surrounded with all/superstars my guy EVER so chill! One thing I do know is he won the ring as the ONLY star on the team when the last time that happened I'll wait....
Props to Dwayne Wade for his comments. Big respect.
I’m not saying he’s the goat or anything but Dirk is my favorite player of all time. His championship was one of the greatest playoff runs ever.
Best championship run in history
One of the best, period.
“2011, Dirk, JJ Barea, that one right there made me the 19th best player of all time, that’s what I felt. I was like super super ecstatic leaving Cleveland because of the 52 year drought. Like I was ecstatic obviously, the first wave of emotion was when everyone heard me whining. That was for 7 years of me being in Cleveland and then after I got stopped in Miami I was like, that one right there made me the most overrated player of all-time.” - Lebron James (The Shop)
You have any more rent-free property available?
Lebronsexual alert.
@@bigred9991 You obviously didn’t read it. 😂
@@Kashed that was directed at fishplant, not you.
@@bigred9991 Ah ok 👍🏻Sorry man
Man, this video got me thinking about Tom Chambers. THAT dude was different. He was more athletic than most big men but could also shoot. 20k career and his in the HOF either.
Chambers is an underrated guy. Crazy underrated
Dirk never gets the credit he deserves as a PF. Give me another big man in his position that won the chip during his era without a single all star.
You had to be 8ft 2in tall and have 4 arms to be able to challenge Dirk's fadeaway.
2011 championship was my greatest sports memory ever. Only thing that could top it is the Buffalo Bills winning a Super Bowl. Or if John Paxton missed that 3 pointer and the Suns beat the Bulls in Game 7.. and they would’ve been slightly favored
Idk.. 2016 had 2 teams come back from 3-1 deficits, WCF and Finals!!!
Great great post and Barkley could have had a championship
You’ve got a great voice, mate!
Dirk is a legend now legend
Such beautiful arch on that shot!
6:18 - I love this pump fake sequence.
About god damn time thank you
Dirk was a bad man!!
Dirk ist einfach eine Maschine
Sabonis yo
That is some arc on that shot.
As a MFFL I commend you on this video! Dirk flipped the whole narrative for bigmen
Way underrated. If he took the route “ can’t beat you then join you” initiated by LJ and followed by many stars, he would have 5 rings easily.
Consistency is what i think of when it comes to Dirk outstanding stroke could shoot anywhere on the hardwood ..FACT
#LegendaryBaller
Dirk!!! U my MAN!!!
Power forward was so deep back then! I have a hard time naming a good PF now. That moment during his retirement tour vs the Clippers when Doc called for a standing ovation for Dirk was powerful!
You have a hard time naming a good PF now? How about Giannis, AD, Durant, Tatum, Jaren Jackson, Siakam, Draymond, Sabonis, Zion, Mobley?
@@gunmuratilban8667 Lol! True. I guess it's more of the evolution of the game. I'm 44 and all those guys I grew up on were 20 10 guys whose games mirrored centers but with more versatility.
@@anthonyyoung4638 I loved the dominance of PF's in 2000's which is still my favorite era. Tim Duncan, KG, Dirk, Pau Gasol, Zach Randolph, Chris Webber, Antawn Jamison, Jermaine O'Neal, Bosh Brand and so on. Like you said, they were like skillful Centers.
While the traditional Centers are indeed dead now, the PF's of 2000's created new standards for bigs.
Well Said! There were battles almost every night at that position! Makes you wonder what the next step is.
I’m just glad he got a ring
FOREVER 41 - FOREVER DIRK
"Give me the burger" 😂😂😂
Hey Sean, I loved this video on Nowitzky. How about a video on Bobby Jackson? I know it might be a risk for you because he wasn't all that popular, but he was fun to watch. Just a thought, thanks! Keep up the great videos.
Great video, but what's the Instrumental playing
GOAT
The boys don't speak abo4 Dirk with enough respect in their demeanor.... Shaq constantly claims "domenance" but he had to "double check" that he wasn't being dooped on the scoring numbers??? Hi! Shaq, you Just proved to yourself that you think you were better then what you EVER were.
I still think you are awesome Shaq.... As a player and a person. Can't help but Love ya
IM glad I got to watch the Mavs win one.
Sean David, the ambassador of the bald ball era.
D. Wade a true class act. He got so much respect for Dirk.
On the other hand, he also was an agent of the 'team handball-ization' of basketball
So glad he got a chip, would've been nice if he got it with Nash too.
I saw prime dirk he is so under appreciated if you give him the help Duncan had he wins 5 rings too
No he doesn’t because his defense was trash . Duncan and KG was much better all around players .
@@sciencedontliebutscientist7083 funny considering dirk has over 1,000 blocks and steals in his career all time lol
@@versatilelord8893 That’s not saying much for someone who is 7’ and played 21 seasons he has 3 more blocks then Shawn Kemp and Kemp only played 14 seasons he’s number 55 all time 😂 and He never made a All defensive team NEVER EVER LIKE NEVER 😂😂😂😂
@@sciencedontliebutscientist7083 it actually does considering most ppl say dirk plays no defense. Which isn’t true
Was the best defender? Definitely not but to say he plays no defense at all? Just stop
And don’t please don’t compare Shawn kemp to dirk again. They’re not even on the league
Dirk is one of the players this sport has ever seen
Stop it
@@versatilelord8893 I never said he don’t play defense I said his defense was trash meaning he was not a good defender . The game of Basketball is not just measured on the offense side of the game . I’m saying Duncan and KG were much better all around players then Dirk . Dirk never made a all defensive team that says a lot .
thank you anderson silva
Yrah..watched that first championship run. Dwayne wade could have blinked at a mav while standing nine feet away and a foul would have been called in his favor while fouls werent called on him.
That ref was on the take (and i think he was called out for gambling later) dirk should have had two championships.
1 NBA title 1 legend 1 Dirk Nowitzki
Shawn Marion's jump shot hurts my eyes
Dirk was such a great & unique shooter. Although he was slow.
Not slow at all in his early years and prime . Very quick first step and footwork actually. Older days of course he slowed down a bit .
Dirk really changed the game. Loved watching him, but did not realize how the game would change after he played the position. Honestly don't care for this style. Lol
the king of Dallas!!!
My favorite year was 2 years after avery johnson developed his inside game.
Cool cut. Thanks. So Heinis your no.1 European player then if not Dirk? Hakeem?
If there was ever going to be "the next Larry Bird," it was Nowitzski
Not at all. Two completely different players cut dirk two completely different clothes.
