    What a legend, allways was my favorite NBA player, even over my Serbian fella Peja Stojakovic. Dirk's humble dude, same as Jokic who resembles him in many ways on and of the court, at that 2005 Eurobasket in Belgrade 20.000 people gave him standing ovation after loosing in the finals. He cried and said that love from, mostly Serbian fans, was really something special and it was suprise for him. What a tournament he had back then, what a time to be basketball fan, it was one of the best individual performances in the history of Eurobasket.

    FIBA should do a better job in promoting and marketing its World Cup like FIFA does. They haven't reached the same kind of global exposure like the Olympics, which is why some bigger stars choose to sit out.

    • @LovelyJubbly18
      @LovelyJubbly18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The Olympic Games in football are literally the opposite of the Olympic Games in basketball, because the best players do not play due to the age limit, and for basketball it is not FIBA's fault, but the American Basketball Association, because it does not send the best players to the world championship in basketball, and if they did, it would be viewed like the Olympic Games !!! All countries send their best to the world championship, except America, and this is precisely the proof that the American federation is to blame, not FIBA!!!

    • @gabepizza

    • @willingexile3374
      @willingexile3374 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      FIBA has done a better job recently, and I'm not putting any blame here. I agree with you that the NBA has been stubborn, but FIBA has to come up with a value proposition that makes the WC more attractive. Prestige increases when pro leagues all over the world achieve more prominence vis-a-vis the NBA, just like how there are at least four or five marquee pro leagues in football. NBA franchises are also protecting the careers of their players. Yao Ming's career is a cautionary tale for all those who put country above self. A reasonable balance must be struck. Maybe FIBA and the IOC can agree on an under-23 model for basketball at the Olympics, so the FIBA WC becomes the more prestigious competition.

    Right now, NBA champs can consider themselves world champs since there is a huge gap in skill in euro leagues best teams and even mid ranked NBA teams. HOWEVER. Imagine a scenario where an NBA expansion team went to Europe. They would share NBA TV deals and revenue and would instantly become a billion dollar team. It’s not hard to imagine some of Europe’s best stars or even Americans wanting a European lifestyle wanting to play for that European NBA team and even take a pay cut to be closer to friends and family in Europe. A team that took a lot of the European stars could defiantly win the championship.

      You confuse World Champion with best in the World. To be the World Champion you need to win the World Championship. In the NBA you can win the NBA championship. In football (this one ⚽) everybody agrees that the winner of the Champions League is probably better than the winner of the World Cup. At least Real Madrid are certainly better than Argentina, but calling Real Madrid the World Champs would be ridiculous, since they did not win the World Cup.
