  • I picked up this Homelite Model XL-12 Chainsaw at a yard sale for $20. I've heard these things are bullet proof and it looked decent for a 50 year old tool so I decided to give it a shot. I'm not one who works on small engines a lot but I do have some trees that need cutting so it may be worth my time. Let's get busy! #homelite #vintagechainsaw #smallengine #xl-12

I bought a Homelite Super EZ 47 years ago and it still works today its the only one I have ever had. Great job getting going. You have a great channel

Thank you! This was an fairly easy one. I figured since it was a Homelite and looked clean inside that I'd be able to do it. I've used it several times now and it's easier to start. I just read up on the Super EZ line and they do seem to be a five star saw so I'll keep my eyes open for one. Thanks for the tip!

Now you are passing into a whole new realm of internal combustion engines. 😁

Funny! It's something I'm not sure I have the patience for. I enjoy working on cars and trucks but these old small engines have an air of voodoo when starting them.

Those were the best chainsaws ever made and I also love the super easys that they made wish I could find an ez that run good

@@floridarusticrepairs starting those chain saws . Can be exhausting for sure.

@@terryeustice5399 Yes. It was easier the second time I used it but certainly not an instant start.

Ihd an old chainsaw years ago that looked quite similar to yours. It also had both a manual and auto chain oiler. I believe that was the bar oil resevoir that you put the oul in. My saw was also made in the 1960’s, and it also was a bear to start. However after some investigation I figured out that it had a set of points, which I replaced and it was much easier to start after that. Good luck! And keep up the good work.

Thanks! Yes, these have points. Buried behind the starter wheel. You pull that and can get to the points but I didn't want to get that far into this at the time. Maybe someday? :)

The gas and oil mixture on those were 16 to 1

Yes, very high oil to fuel mixture. I haven't been able to find it so I had to mix my own. Fortunately there's a gas station near me which sells ethanol free fuel.

Change the fuel lines, after sitting that long they are surely shot!

Thanks! I did later on change the fuel line and filter since I got it from the rebuild kit.
