I just crocheted a baby blanket that I want to put a backing on. I’m going to do it just as you explained. It’s perfect. Thank you for your well explained directions. By the way, your children are so cute. I couldn’t take my eyes off the baby.
I love to hear that! I made the video hoping it would be helpful. It is such a blessing to hear that it is. Thank you 😊 for your sweet words about my Cubs. Have a blessed day!
I have a video on the 10 stitch pattern that I used. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/IhIuvpZhKeU/w-d-xo.html I did a series of the long part and then the four corners for the border. I hope that helps.
Thanks for the detailed video! I am currently putting a flannel material on my newly finished afghan and needed this instruction :) What I would love to know is how did you do a ten stitch crocheted border? Can you suggest a pattern? Never mind! I found your pattern on your video on your channel. Thanks.
I get the my last stitch before making the x and place the needle between the fabric and yarn. I manipulate the needle to where it is at the top of one corner of the x. Then I continue on with the x.
Or I get all the way to the end and go under neath on the yarn side and pop out on a corner of the x and continue on. That’s why I try to match the crochet thread to the yarn as much as possible so that it’s not so noticeable when I need to make different or longer stitches.
No it is not. I just use a thin tapestry needle with a sharp end. Not only is it easier getting the needle through the fabric, but it also keeps the hole small.
Good question. I like to tie a knot or tow at the end of my crochet thread that I have cut off to use. Then I go between the two layers of fabric where the fabric is folded and pop my needle up and out of the fabric and then start my stitching. I don't start unpinning until I feel like the area I have just worked is secure and isn't gonna budge. i hope that helped.
The opposite? The border I did is a 10 Stitch crochet pattern. I have a video on it. I have a video on the Diamond Waffle Variation stitch I did for the blanket as well. I believe at the end of the waffle stitch explains how to transition from the blanket to the border.
If you are adding the fabric behind that flared back part of the blanket, you might have to get extra fabric and basically create a ruffle. But if you are just trying to add the fabric to the back of the crocheted part, then there shouldn't be any challenges.
For the fabric you would put it through the hottest cycle you can. You want the shrinking to get done in the beginning. I don't prewash the yarn. Some people do it by adding it to a mesh bag or pillowcase. The aftercare after the afghan has gotten dirty is to soak it. Add it to some warm water and cleaner of your choice in a bath tub and let it soak. You can soak it a once or twice depending on how dirty it got. Then just rinse it well and you can lay it flat on something to let it dry. Ive used the dryer before for quick dry. I just tucked it into bed sheet and tied off the bed sheet before drying since it wouldn't fit in a pillowcase.
Can I cut something knitted like a blanket and sew it into something new like a purse or mittens? My nana left a lot of her knitting projects left unfinished before she passed and I would like to reuse some of it if I can!
The thread your sewing with, it looks to thick to be sewing thread and to thin to be the same thread you uses for the actual blanket? Looks amazing and I love the personal touch the hand stitching gives. Amazing video.
It is crochet 🧶 thread 🧵. I like to use it because it is thicker and more sturdy than sewing thread. Which I need since the blanket will be heavy. And it is thinner than the yarn. I want the look of thread but I also need durability. I’m so glad that you liked the video and found it helpful.
I’m currently crocheting a child’s coat and needed to find how to simply stitch flannel/fleece lining to a crocheted project. This helps SO MUCH ❤️ this is perfect
This lining project is exactly what I was looking for. You demonstrate the steps so nicely. Beautiful crochet work!
Thank you so much. I try!
Thank you! I’ve been looking for a great way to hand stitch a lining for a blanket! Your blankets are gorgeous. The steps are perfect!
So glad I could help. Thank you for the lovely compliments.

Thank you for sharing great video
Good morning. How did you add you ten stitch border to you work please
I have a video on the 10 stitch pattern that I used. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/IhIuvpZhKeU/w-d-xo.html I did a series of the long part and then the four corners for the border. I hope that helps.

I am glad you found it helpful. I often wonder if I get too detailed.
How do you do the x in the corner
I get the my last stitch before making the x and place the needle between the fabric and yarn. I manipulate the needle to where it is at the top of one corner of the x. Then I continue on with the x.

Is it hard getting the tapestry needle through the fabric??
No it is not. I just use a thin tapestry needle with a sharp end. Not only is it easier getting the needle through the fabric, but it also keeps the hole small.
For the very first stitch, how do you secure it or tie it off?
Good question. I like to tie a knot or tow at the end of my crochet thread that I have cut off to use. Then I go between the two layers of fabric where the fabric is folded and pop my needle up and out of the fabric and then start my stitching. How would we do the opposite, just a border?
The opposite? The border I did is a 10 Stitch crochet pattern. I have a video on it. I have a video on the Diamond Waffle Variation stitch I did for the blanket as well. I believe at the end of the waffle stitch explains how to transition from the blanket to the border.
My knitted blanket has a crocheted border, which is flaired. What is my challenge to add a backing with a flared border?
If you are adding the fabric behind that flared back part of the blanket, you might have to get extra fabric and basically create a ruffle. But if you are just trying to add the fabric to the back of the crocheted part, then there shouldn't be any challenges.
Do I need to make the border on my blanket before I sew the fabric on?
Yes you do.
Gorgeous! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you. And, you are welcome.
How would you wash this? I noticed you did not prewash the material.
For the fabric you would put it through the hottest cycle you can. You want the shrinking to get done in the beginning. I don't prewash the yarn. I don’t see why not. That’s actually what I would like to do soon. Is crochet some hats and then add the lining to it.
The thread your sewing with, it looks to thick to be sewing thread and to thin to be the same thread you uses for the actual blanket? Looks amazing and I love the personal touch the hand stitching gives. Amazing video.

Yay!!!! Thank you for the support and encouragement.
Traduire en français
Just added it for you. Thank you for the request. If there is a different type of French you would like me to add I can try and do that as well.
Can you please give me some feedback and let me know if it worked for you on your end?
