You can't stop homelessness. We have a HUGE population of homeless in Washington, D.C. A number of them have told me that they HATE staying in the shelter!☹ They give different reasons: rules, harassment, thefts, bed bugs/fleas, defecation in the shower stalls, no privacy, poor conditions, etc. I've been homeless. The good Lord removed me from that condition. It wasn't fun. However, it was a great learning experience. I have also been gifted with not having to cope with drug 💉or mental health issues 😖 like many of these poor souls. I wish I could do more to help.

We don't address the real issues in this country and we keep making the 1 percent richer while everyone else is barely getting by. I've seen people have jobs for 20 years a house cars and all and literally the company laid them off and they have nothing. Alma, I most likely know more homeless then you. I have worked in the mental health field for 25+ years. I worked for 6 years with the homeless in Seattle, WA. Many of the "addicted" have underlying mental health issues and are using street drugs to self medicate, since our society deemed them disposable in the 1980's with deinstitutionalization policy under Regan. This resulted in dismantling the mental health care services in this country and why there are none now. Your idea of their families need to take care of them is simplistic at best. Many come from homes were the other family members have their own mental health issues. Others come from homes where the family can not cope/deal with the person's mental illness, and there is a lack of community support and resources for them to do so. With all that said, my original point was that the news report sidestepped the fact that it is a loss of jobs causing the increase now in homelessness and not the disease it's self, as implied, that is causing it.

Venice has always been dicey with the homeless and "free spirits" walking around. But now it is way out of control and dangerous. Quiet suburbs in L.A. now have homeless people with mental health issues. Yet when the residents voice concern and object to these conditions in their communities they get shammed by the left and Garcetti just smiles and says things will get better. And why should he worry. He and his family has 24/7 armed security protection from the LAPD, as well as many of the elites that live in this city. Yet we poor unwashed slobs have to put up with the results of Garcettie's and Newsome's policies that are ruining this city and state.

Pay them to help clean up their area and the residents and out of stated people mess. $7.50 hr person for a area each day. It adds up after awhile. That is about $53 a week. Use $5 each day for food and water if you are not good with money or $3 if you are very good with money. For instance most places have free water so just buy the food ects. And so on. That Is not counting their own money from begging. I mean even good Samaritan could just put the money in a bucket guarded by those running the program to pay them for cleaning. This way the money is use for good and the place is kept clean. It's that simple. If they have enough cash they could up the paid to $13 or more an hour. Could even go from block to block around the city cleaning up and having the residents chip in a $1 into the bank for the project of keeping california clean and the homeless feed and clothes and shelter. You know a symbiosis relationship. Where both parties benifits from the other. What is a $1 anyways when your neighborhood could be cleaned up and looking nice and money coming in because people from outside of the usa wants to visit your beautiful cities and clean beaches. Most people buying homes are so indebt because of the property any disruption in pay they can not recover. So go ahead and make excuses but this is what happens when we would rather give people credit than pay raises.

@@keithsherri9096 response to dead people, and Joe as well. First, while it is frustrating to see billionnaires not paying the same tax rate as a secretary making a lot less ,RICH PEOPLE are NOT THE REASON why we have poor people. I work at a huge university and first to admit, salaries are low because college degrees are unaffordable for the 66% of Americans who want them. Then we have the bottom third who never cared about school, never turned in homework and dropped out of 10th grade. They are working minimum wage jobs or living off welfare for life. Homelessness hits these working poor and it becomes impossible for them to ever make it. A subset of our students are adults who realized late in life that college made sense instead of postponing it 20 years ago. A college degree increases lifetime earnings by at least $1,000,000, and a high income is one way to avoid homelessness. My wife was born in Europe where college is tuition free so kids who want to study can. Sadly, even when its free a portion of people ALWAYS refuse to take the college path and get railroaded to a lower income path. Also kids today take majors for skills nobody want. We have too many theatre majors or film majors and 70% of these kids won't ever make it in that industry. American kids hate engineering and science so we have to import kids from India and China. The average salary for an Indian immigrant is $100,000 per year. Why Americans dont earn qualifications to take these jobs is part of the problem.

In the late 80s, I was very close to being homeless with 3 under age daughters. This was due to having a job that didn't pay well and being told I had to move because the landlord wanted to move his relatives in. It's no joke, folks. Some of these homeless people are ex cons, some are families who have lost their incomes. Some suffer from mental illness and drug addiction. It's so very sad!!
