Hi, after doing this retrofit Ista D said "steering angle sensor could not be calibrated" Diagcode: D3450_DSC0000B_90_441 Said to check sensor and connections. Checked and all good. Does this mean I was sold a bad steering angle sensor? Is there any way to swap your original steering angle sensor to the new cluster. Thanks
I have a bmw 325 2006. My steering angle sensor has been on for about two weeks but drove fine, went to my car to start it up and it wouldn’t start. Changed the relay, the battery, and starter. Could the steering angle sensor be the problem?
Hi i got a question I replaced a steering column in my 320d e91 and I used one from a 1 series.. and obvs the part numbers are different and I swapped the ring over as well but I’m getting 9520 fault the steering column malfunction and I got air bag light on and seatbelt. So my question is does it need reprogramming or something ?
@@GeorgeAustersthanks for replying I have took my sensor to pieces and cleaned the disk(it was brand new) then recalibrated it and the fault won’t move… can I buy any steering angle sensor for an E92 Automatic Or do the part numbers have to match? Thanks for helping me
Hi George, your vids are a God send so thank you, long shot for a reply but would steering angle sensor fault cause the E60 to have excessive play in the steering wheel? Happened randomly last week and car feels like a death trap, no visible errors with arms etc, tyres are good. Tonight got steering assist error on the idrive and light on and car seemed to handle the way it used to! Unless I'm going mad of course 😅 the dash to match
Hi George are you in Australia? Because I need you help to do this and have questions is Do I need use brand new steering angle sonsor to finish coding? Please 🙏
Just advice for anyone that is having battery issues or alternator codes after messing with the sensor it means your sensor is fucked I had to replace mine completely to fix my alternator code it was very scary I thought I had burnt out a fuse for the alternator or killed my alternator but changed the steering wheel and was back.
Hi mate, I’ve got an E82 and I had my front control arm changed but the light is still on. I’ve tried resetting it lock to lock but it’s still on. Would you recommend getting a ISTA+ and calibrating it again? Will the DTC work after aswell?
Hi mate , I currently have this exact same problem with my 2009 116d e81 its says there is a fault code for the steering angle sensor which has given me the same lights as yourself. I’ve recently just had my full rear suspension arms all 6 replaced so I still need to do the tracking and wheel alignment but I’m wondering should I do this repair before or after wheel alignment and balancing ???
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks for the advice, I’ve been stressing for weeks, initially my car had no power on acceleration and I thought it was gonna be an expensive repair. I knew it needed the suspension arms done and because of that would need wheel alignment done then these lights came after I got the arms all repaired on my car but I had the power back I’ve not had for ages, then the code for the steering angle sensor appeared with the same lights as you and I was panicking thinking it was going to be expensive but this seems an easy fix. Just never thought something as simple as this would totally cut the power when driving my car. You wouldn’t happen to have a link to the part like you used in the video. My car is a 2009 116d E81 if that’s helps?
Hi George, nice vid as usual :) At the end of this week i'm picking up my new (old) '06 130i, it has almost every option, but Xenon headlights. I am installing these (original ofcourse) probably in the near future. My question is, do you know if these have to be registered in the ecu or something, and is that something Ista can do? Tnx! :D
Hi mate, i have done this retrofit before, it varies slightly depending on whether you go for adaptive xenons or standard xenons, but it requires replacing the FRM with an frm2 or frm3 xe or max brose, id go with frm3 max brose since its the best. Along with that it requires changing the pinouts on the headlight and FRM connectors then coding. You also have to add an additional ground wire to each headlight
@Brodie Haward Hi, thanks for the answer! I will probably go for standard xenons.. Is the FRM3 module model specific or does for example the e90 have the same one?
@@Blurky82 no, nothing is plug and play on a BMW. The FRM needs coding the the vehicle’s VIN as well as the vehicle order. You also need to code in xenons to the vehicle order of the CAS and FRM for it to be proper and not flicker once the engine is on. If you install adaptive xenons, you also need to code the JBE for the levelling and cornering lights to work. As for the FRM, if you have a 5 door a unit from an e90 will work, I believe only the 2 door e81 and e82 have a different type of FRM, so assuming you have an e87 an FRM from the e90 will be ok
@@brodiehaward Ok thanks, it is an E87 5 door indeed, am getting it this friday morning and will probably look for a Frm and/or xenon this weekend on some junkyards..
@@GeorgeAusters ahah no need to be. Thanks for this vid though, I have to fix the steering sensor on my car too and I was really afraid to do it on my own. Not anymore ;)
i swear to god even with the bat unplugged removing the main airbag is one of the most nerve wracking things i've done to date.

Where's the best place to buy the sensor there quite expensive. is second hand ok or better new ?

Hi George I don't know if I missed it or if you haven't done one but did you do a video installing ista and ncs expert on your laptop
I never made a video because the kit actually comes with very detailed guides on how to install the lot👍🏻
There’s a great bmw coding group on Facebook who are all very helpful with installing it. Some will use team viewer for you and help you out 👍

Depends on the engine. Some will be around 93 degrees while others need to be over 100 before it kicks it. Very rare it will though.
