I still find it ridiculous that BMW don't let us see the coolant temperature without going through hoops via the secret menu. They could have put on on the dash with a green zone so people don't panic about the high temperatures they can run at. Then have amber on the higher side for when the dpf is regenerating.
Totally agree, normally when a car has overheated it's done the damage so having a visual aid would help. I use a blue tooth dongle and the torque app but, why can't BMW just enable this by default ?
Useful video 👍 do you have a list of all the codes that the numbers are associated with?
Indicators are in the secret menu
Thank you very much
I find it so very strange that some BMW's in the e87/e90 era do not have an oil and coolant temperature gauge in the instrument cluster, especially with a "performance" model like the 130i... I want to assemble one in my e87 with either oil temp or both in the near future, but I'm still figuring out which clusters from which models fit and are programmable in the e87. I think the 135i one fits but that one is almost nowhere to be found for a reasonable price (and with km/h counter). Have you ever thought about doing that by any chance?
The majority of the petrol models have an electric waterpump which works in conjunction with the DME to raise and lower the coolant temperature depending on the driving style, so I guess people would start to worry if they see their coolant temperature all over the place
Some coders can program the gauge that shows momentary fuel consumption to show the oil temp I think. It requires deep knowledge of the coding process however. :/
Long overdue video, good job though.
Cheers Johny!
The reason BMW dropped coolant temp was following the introduction of electric water pumps. These pumps are constantly switching on/off and changing speeds depending on engine load. This results in what appears as widely fluctuating coolant temperatures on a gauge . These are normal, but the phenomenon caused owner panic. So BMW deleted coolant temp from the dash and introduced oil temp instead which gives a more consistent reading.
mm interwsting well i dont have either water or oil temp? 2012 BMW 1 series 118
There was the space under the speedo for the coolant clock.Simply ridicoulus.
Isnt have obd2 device conected, and fone app too read coolant temp easier?
I have the 2009 iseries. Does it atleast warn us when the radiator is getting too hot?
very useful 🤗🤗🤗
Thanks man!
@@GeorgeAusters I always follow you 🤗
hi George grat vidz better explained than what have been already done on subjet. Can you make a video about a bonnet hood stuck on e81/87 ? Look like a topic with not much content on web and a lot of people have the issue... including me right now! My main problem is that i have the air plastic trim behind the grill and cant access with the screwdriver method, and dont want to screw up
Are there any form to fix it and save feature for the next off-on cycle?
What should the coolant temp be for the e87 2.0i
jamoaaan
hy I have checked it now but there is no engine light I can see . Can u tell me why ?
how can you make oil temperature bar appear on the dashboard for x1?
Nice
Cheers!
Yes yes yes!!!! 👌
🙌🏼
No function bmw 116i 2014😢
same here i did it exactly as he asked but i don have that function 😕
In the video it shows the BMW E87. The model from 2014 should be an F20 or F21 which probably works in a different way.
can you lock the temp gauge to stay on all the time?
No unfortunately
This guy looks like Carl froch lol
It get it a lot
Can ass oil temp using BimmerCode
what temp should the coolant temp be reading?
Depends on the engine
Can you tell for my e87 Motor n46/N46B20O1
@@boboyouth around 100°C
What should the temp be on a 120d (E82)
🙌🏼
❤️
What about the digital speedo
Needs coding mate
Got a bmw 120d and its been nothing bit a money pit and pain in the ass for 3 years .....bmw are overpriced unreliable cars ....i always wanted one but never again
At what coolant temperature should the fan kick in cause I've seen mine going over 90degrees but still the fan wasn't kicking in
I drive a 2005 e90 320d
It’s typically around 92-93 degrees on the 2L diesels
@@GeorgeAusters That means my fan is not working 😕
But car has never overheated
@@tumelomoshoaliba1436 I've seen my fan work once on a really hot day with the ac on, i think it's normal bmw symptoms bro
@@johnyp2967 Thank you for the information....
Maybe I shouldn't worry too much about it as long as the car is not overheating and water is circulating properly
@@tumelomoshoaliba1436 no probs don't worry i had the same concerns i have had the car over a year and all is ok at the minute, hopefully it stays like that touch wood
What an absolutely joke. Performance engine with no easy/practical way of viewing engine temp...
WTF BMW?
or you could buy a better car.
I feel like you're just repeating videos now...
I’ve never made this video for the bmw 1 series before👍🏻
@@GeorgeAusters It's essentially the same thing for all BMW's 👍🏻
But people will search for BMW 1 series specifically
All of your videos are great Brendan, keep up the good work bud! 🤣
@@bungl3971 Thank you 😘
