Quick history lesson: The woman you encountered with the wimple wasn't necessarily a nun. During the medieval period, it was considered seemly for all women to cover their heads (for modesty, etc.). A wimple is just the Christian equivalent of a hijab. Nuns continued the tradition of wearing wimples, even after broader society abandoned their use, but women in general were expected to wear them during much of the medieval era.
Dan, heres a little secret! you see the tall ass helmet on your head? when you go up stairs with things above them, sometimes that helmet gets clipped. if you take the helmet off, stairs will work
I got knocked off my horse going under a low branch because of my helmet lol. Unfortunately, I've gotten stuck on stairs wearing nothing but simple clothing so not sure how much that helps.
I think I'm something like 3 days into this game now, and I mean in total time played, and I just kitted Henry out in full plate. Now I'm an invincible badass, and everyone's calling me a knight. I also courted Theresa, mostly by giving her jewelry from bandits I violently murdered and looted. Nothing says romance like a suspiciously warm and bloody ring.
Dan... if you were to bring Permadeath back as a singular one-off series, please do it in this. This is a game that might as well have been designed for Permadeath.
It might be a quick series. I got ganged up by three farmers and assumed I could take them since I was wearing full plate armor. I ran out of stamina and they fucked me up lol. Although you can surrender in some cases so you might be able to save yourself that way if they are merciful.
I learned that the secret of archery is seriously something one of the trainers just mentions in passing and you could just take it as flavor dialogue. You need to draw and fire your arrow in one smooth motion. You'll notice when you nock your arrow you pull the bow a bit to the right, then as you draw the bow starts to shift to the left. You need to fire as the bow shifts left. If you let it hit the point where you're attempting to hold the bow in position then your aim and accuracy drop off considerably. Whenever I just drew and fired smoothly in one motion as I swung to the left I could be very accurate with my shots during those archery competitions.
It still takes a lot of practice, but I found it way more accurate than when I tried to aim after drawing fully. The bow wiggles all over the place and the arrow seems to have a mind of its own even if you manage to release it in the same position when you do that. But yeah, with the smooth motion release I was consistently hitting the middle rings of the target in archery contests.

80 hours in and I still can't find a merchant who is selling RPGs. The devs lied, they promised it had medieval RPGs! How else does one bust a T-72 rolling down the road?
They’ve fixed the optimisation which makes the game run much smoother, the save system was reworked where you can still save whenever using the saviour schnapps or save and exit without it costing you anything. The bugs...eh, so far I haven’t experienced any and reading through the patches it seems they’ve gotten rid of most of them but I still se posts in the forums about buggy merchants and such but other than that this game is a masterpiece that I think too many people don’t play due to difficulty.
When you learn the combat it is seriously fun and rewarding. I remember beating bernard in a real sword fight practice and being so proud of myself even though I didn't win anything and just ended up damaging myself.
Dan i blame you....You are an enabler. I saw this game when it came out looked at it a few times kinda thought meh...another rpg trying to be a survival game, pshh i can do that in skyrim and i can shoot fireballs! But no, but no then this video comes out and it's like oh look at me i have fun combat and lots of complexity and characters you can actually like, and all those things you love and I don't need mods to do it, And just like the dealer in a back alley you gave me the taste and now i just want moar... God save you dan, god save.
@@thomasball5432 Henry does not know how to read at the start of the game. Every book he takes in his hand is just gibberisch. You can learn to read, but when your reading skill is low, you see many letters are switched or wrong. The better the reading stat, the correcter the books will become.

The whole "game playing itself" reminds me of the A-Life system that was going to be implemented into the stalker series, where the npcs could complete the game before you and things like that.
Dan. I’ve been subscribed for like 6 years now. I remember when you came out with the Challenges that we would recommend for you to do. I REALLY miss those. Sometimes I’ll be playing a game and find something funny or hard to do in a game and I will think to myself “Dan should do a challenge video on this.” Please bring them back!!
prob wont see this, but the horse will auto follow a road if you just hold shift and healing can also be done via sleeping, or the use of marigold potions. (and if you havnt checked alchemy yet you are in for a treat)
Yeah, I don't get why most people miss those facts. I haven't gotten into alchemy yet though, couldn't read in the game and nearly killed myself with an unknown potion lol. Maybe after I Learn to read will I give it another shot.
I think that part of the reason why you think the forests were so well done is possibly because of your geographical background. They did a great job recreating their sample area almost 1:1, where the Witcher for example is fantasy but also a more mixed coniferous/deciduous region. Just a thought!
Got this game, Legs broke and was bleeding while doing a quest where I someone gave me a tour around the city, Got drunk from healing ale that I drank, Bloody and drunk and could barely see in front of me, decided to play dice with the person, couldn't even see the dice during the entire game, lost, got in trouble from fight, the end. Also I would like to add to the part where Dan said you have to practice a lot. For some reason that's my favorite part of the game. Waking up practicing and then going off to do quests, it feels like I'm actually there and playing as a person.
The combat in this game is what drew me to it, having practiced swordfighting irl it was incredibly interesting to see a realistic combat system in a RPG. But it does something that I've never seen in a game before, as you level you become more fluid and dangerous, just like the real world, you commit movement to muscle memory and repeat moves without thinking about it. But Captain Bernard is a godsend as he will allow you to train to appropriate levels for more difficult fights (like the fight with Runt which is complete garbage till you get to about level 6-10 with your chosen weapon) and the ability to train the oh so sweet master strikes, if you want to pick up this game make sure you train with Bernard as much as possible till you feel confident against full on soldiers.
Yeah, I trained a shit ton with that guy before fighting anyone. I got ganged up by 3 farmers and figured I could take them. I was wrong. I could have done it if I didn't stand in the middle of the group lol
It would not surprise me in the slightest if Dan now goes to a town and a guard tries to arrest him for murder of the nun. The best thing is that it could very much happen and that's one of the reasons why this game is amazing
I dont think people understand that this game is a grind. You can't beat everyone in the beginning or at level 1 like Skyrim. The same situation with the dead nun happened to me. I came across the guy looting her corpse and he tried to pin it on me. I told him that I came here and he was looting it, and threatened him. He bribed me not to do anything and I took it. After he turned his back, I choked him out, took all of his stuff, and while disposing of his unconscious body hit the "kill" button by accident.
5 hours for intro credits? and here I am remembering it took me 25 hours to get to the intro credits for NieR Automata! also it took me 3 playthroughs but that's not the point

Galileo Figaro
Magnifico-o-o-o-o.
I'm just a poor boy, nobody loves me.
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let him go!)
Bismillah! We will not let you go. (Let me go!)
Will not let you go. (Let me go!)
Never let you go (Never, never, never, never let me go)
Oh oh oh oh
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
Oh, mama mia, mama mia (Mama mia, let me go.)
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.
So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?
So you think you can love me and leave me to die?
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here.
(Ooooh, ooh yeah, ooh yeah)
Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me.
Any way the wind blows.
Hugh Mungus thank you
You. I like you.
I didn't actually know what the song was until halfway through. XD
I'm genuinely scared for my eyes when the enemy's sword is pointed right at the camra
