Great comparison. I have iron rangers and once had Thursdays. The Thursday boots are thinner as compared to the red wings. I agree with you that if you just can’t afford or just don’t need a rugged boot get the Thursday. I just got red wing 1907 and love them.

I'm a true believer in the Iron Rangers. It's hard waiting to buy another pair but I don't need them this year.
I'm convinced you guys just convince yourselves that they are comfy because of the price you paid. No amount of wear will make these comfortable - it's like standing on a concrete floor with a thin layer of cardboard between. There is ZERO cushioning.

As an aside, I just rec'd a pair of Thursday Commanders in tobacco a few weeks ago. I must say I'm quite impressed with them so far and, as you said about the Captains, break-in is easy. I was amazed how comfortable they were right out of the box. They're gorgeous boots, too.

Love both boots. To be honest: My Iron Rangers get resoled after 3-5 years....my Captains get replaced. For me thats the difference.

The Iron Rangers are better quality, but I like the look of Thursdays better for my usage, and you can buy almost two pairs of Thursdays for the price of one pair of Rangers, so you’ll get half the wear on them.

I would agree with most everything, except for the tongues. The Iron Ranger has a gusseted tongue, while the standard Captain does not.

Great review man! The Iron Rangers run circles on the Thursday Captains. I have both boots, and one is not like the other. Lol. Thursdays stay in their own lane and I respect that. Like you mentioned, it’s a great entry level boot and I still enjoy wearing mine quite frequently. However, the Iron Ranger is a spectacular boot. As you know, when you have a pair, you fall in love with them. I also have a pair of Truman boots, and I would only call them a slight upgrade from the IR’s. Mainly due to the incredibly thick leather they offer. So, it shows that Red Wing punches with the big boys that cost 100 dollars more than they do. I love Red Wing as a company, and the Iron Ranger is still my favorite boot.

Untrue. Iron rangers are spectacularly bad. I've had mine 3 years and it's my worst boot - I'd rather wear $50 boots or my timberlands. I hate putting them on. I hate walking in them (like walking barefoot on wood). They have 0 cushioning. Always hurts. They suck.
@@philmcclenaghan7056 lol. That’s insane man, I’m sorry. Obviously everyone’s foot is different and opinions are objective, but it sounds like you have a bad pair. Both of my pairs are extremely comfortable and to say you would rather wear a 50 dollar boot clearly tells me you have something against Red Wing. Assuming your 50 dollar boots even hold up for a few months, they will be ungodly terrible. If you hate them so much, why do you still have them 3 years later?
Ive seen Resoles of IR with wedge soles. They look super comfortable for city use.
They are gaining in popularity. I finally got a pair of wedge soles on my thorogood boots and am really enjoying them. 🥾🥾
I have Jk climber , Super Duty boots a pair of Whites Smokejumpers and my Iron Rangers still get switched out on a weekly basis. Man I love my Iron Rangers I don’t do any heavy work in them but on lite days I wear them for work . They also get worn when I go out for dinner or movies.

You should of purchase the Thursday Vanguard Made in the USA model. I bought the Thursday Vanguard with Horween Indigo CXL leather. Comfortable out of the box than my Iron Rangers No break in needed. My go to boot now. Love the video, keep up the great work.

Thursday boots are good for the price but i believe if you can afford to buy a pair of Thursday boots you can wait a little and save up and buy the Red wings that's only if you want to. In my opinion the red wings are much better in everyway. That's just my opinion.

Nice video man! The captain in canyon has nickel eyelets, but not chrome. Do you like the storm king outsole better than the traditional captain sole?
For my lifestyle yes. Can’t dress them up as much but I’m not working in an office at this point. If I had to choose them I’d go stormking. When my brown traditional Thursday captains need a new outsole I may go custom like role club or may do a vibram lug???

Thursday is a decent boot. However resole prices are the same whether you are doing Thursday, Redwing or Crockett. For $170-200 boot why would you resole for $150-200 vs selling your used thursday for $70 and buying another new pair?
Certainly have a solid point, If a guy could afford it I'd go Red Wing Iron Ranger or Blacksmith. Beyond that, head over to Franks, Nicks or Whites and you'll be set for good.

i'd rather just spend the extra money and get a sturdier, more solid boot than the Thursdays. i have 2 pair i occasionally wear to the office. i have the Logger in waxed flesh and they are absolutely gorgeous and i get more compliments on them than any other boots i own. but they do feel flimsy.

I believe that Redwing started using the Vibram Minilug outsole because of OSHA safety requirements. It is against osha safety standards to have a smooth, traction less sole like the older smooth corded one

I'm not sure that applies to a soft toe boot? You're not going to find guys wearing Heritage boots in any work place that requires a safety toe. Iron Rangers are a tough more expensive dress boot. Thursday boots are a less expensive copy of them.

Wish Redwing would use Vibram's mark free yellow tab 430 minilug rather than those lower end 430s that come from Mexico, they leave marks on the wax tile at work.

Great to hear from ya mate! I’d say you can safely order the same size but I’m 1/2 size up in Thursday’s. I have a 11 in iron rangers and 11.5 in Thursday. However, I’d probably be good on a 11 in captains too but the 11.5 captains are not loose or sloppy on me

Great video hate Thursdays tho … 200$ for a sneaker that looks like a boot is not ideal for me. However the vanguard is a lot better then the regular 200$ run of the mill captains. To bad they don’t fit me cause the copper vanguard leather is great
Thursdays are solid construction with good quality. A sneaker that looks like a boot would be any of the cheap fake cement construction boots with all synthetic materials.
