- We spent a couple days up in Vancouver with Ben De Gros skating around the city and checking out classic spots. We talk about what makes a good coffee shop, old skate videos, designing a custom shape with Deluxe, Ben's sobriety, being a guest on The Nine Club, how to keep progressing as an older skater, and how he has paved his own lanes on TH-cam.

My partner and I bought a fixer upper home last September. One of my fav things to ever happen after buying our first home is when we were working on a drywall patch in our new garage and she pulls up a video to show me on how to patch the hole and it's a Vancouver Carpenter video. I was like "babe, that's Ben." and she let out such a happy belly laugh and said "Oh my gosh, I knew i recognized him! He's the skate guy you always watch!" Shoutout Ben for the front crook trick tips and also our go to source for new homeowner home repairs.
Haha yes! We found Ben originally from a drywall tip video as well, wasn't until way later that we found his skate channel!
Not just a skateboarder nor carpenter...
He is a father figure and a person of incredible integrity that's becoming so hard to find on TH-cam.
He is a person skateboarding industry deserves.
Learned tres at 34, back smiths at 37, and hardflips at 39. It's never too late to get better.
Hell yeah! Learned Tre's a few years back (at 30), but still can't hard flip yet.
I'm 34 working on hardflips. But I did learn "fakie halfcab heelflip" or fakie backside 180 heelflip. Not sure what the appropriate name is for that trick but it's really fun and satisfying.
Ben is the hero we've always needed
This is excellent. My first exposure to Ben and the channels … I’ve lived in Vancouver a cpl years recently and will be returning. I have a son in the area. And I skate and do woodworking/metalworking .. I love the city and the whole region. Great to see this , Ben’s work and play ethic .. big positivity here. Love the RDS crew , I often passed by the shop on my cycling around the city. I’ve snowboarded Whistler and spent lots of time in Vancouver for well over 20 yrs and it became my favorite place. So much great skating, beach life, good food, chill people, healthy livin’!
Nice! Vancouver is pretty rad. Thanks for watching and dropping a comment 🤙
I’m a young nurse and have been a skateboarder most of my life. As I’ve reached my young adult years, Ben has been such a huge role model for me. Him balancing family, health, work and his passion for skateboarding is such a huge inspiration for me. I thoroughly enjoy listening to him speak about life and skateboarding. I look at him and see myself in the future. I love this dude and have been watching him since the beginning of his TH-cam career while I was in college/ nursing school!
So great to hear Ben talk. He has such a nice mindset and is an inspiration to me as a 48-year old skater 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Funny, I found Ben's channel last year and started skating again for the first time in 17 years. Broke my ankle almost immediately. Back on now and riding my first goldilocks setup. Thanks Ben!
Glad to hear you back on it! 🫡
This guy is my favorite person on TH-cam. I learn about skating and dry wall skills from him.
Nice profile. Found this guy recently. Love it!
Thank you 🫡
“There’s history in the chunks.”

i like the closing segment, when at the last minute, he gives a heartfelt speech. when nothing else motivates you quite the same anymore...u just gotta get out and roll anyway u can!!
Yeee!
Ben’s description of what skateboarding does for you is the truth. He always says exactly what I’m thinking
Richmond represent! I live a block away from that 2nd spot. Haven't had the courage to try anything on it though..
This video is worth watching for the tip on cutting the concrete out for the skatelite, holy shit mind-blowing idea!
Pretty genius!
Ben's got me wanting to skate Venture Lo's for the first time since like 1997 lol
First vid ever watched and you nailed it. Watching these warm up clips at classic spots rejuvenated me to get back out to me area and have some damn fun
💙
on the topic on maintaining skateboarding. I started sleeping on the floor with minimal padding, a side benefit is that falling while skating doesn't really hurt anymore. The body adapts to lying on a hard floor. I didn't expect it happening. Don''t really know if it helps, as I am the only one around me who does it. If anyone is eager to try it out, be aware that the first 3-5 days are a bit of a struggle. Gets way easier after that
the warehouse ramps are sick!
if only we had our own warehouse!!
Olympic oval in Richmond! You're skating 5 min from my skate park I grew up skating during the 90s, river rdsk8 park!
what he said about the weather and maintaining skate tricks is so true. When I moved to Van, I skated maybe twice in the first winter, and then over compensated by skating so much in the summer and pushed myself that I got injured all the time.
We're based in Washington state, so we can relate as well!
Really love that monologue at the end. Good stuff!
I’m not 100% sure but touching the new tail light bulb with your fingers can deposit oil on the glass and cause a hot spot on the bulb and can possibly burn out more quickly.
The switch nose grind did it for me. I haven't seen Ben do that one.
first try too!
Just got ten years sobriety yesterday! Also my birthday haha. But yes I do still smoke pot lol. Ben’s an inspiration
Happy birthday!! 🎂
Bonus content how to replace a rear lightbulb on a Ford F150!
😂
I'm gonna be honest. At first I didn't get Ben. But after watching this video...he seems like a real cool dude.
Good production amazing vid
Thank you! 🫡
one of the many hidden gems in the lower mainland tehe
Sounds like one of your left turn signals lights is out.
Ben still so good!
Hey man I love the video, but can you please drop the locations of the spots? I'm in the Vancouver area and need to find more cool skate spots! Thanks
Ben is rad
This is sick
I feel like this would have been way better if you had a Red Dragons hooded with Red Dragons jeans and some Red Dragons stickers on your board….
🐉
Lol i was thinking his blinker was out with the double fast clicking
Cool video G
Love this
Appreciate you!!
14:38 oh god, knight st bridge commute ptsd

Ladies & gentleman, MR. BEN DE GROS
Slap some rapid set on all the stuff you want a lil better edge on. Spray clear coat and apply wax while its still warm and setting up.
first I heard of you was through Gifted Haters channel and then much later on 9 Club
“Loud? That doesnt even make sense it made me quite”
What shoe is Ben skating when you are at that park with the long ledge?
Halfcabs
How is the man driving
Cloud and rainy all the time... dont apply to Van anymore, we have hella dry summers now.
Love ya Ben, but you’ve got a light out (fast blinker indicates dead bulb)
You gotta watch further lol
@@AdjacencyBias I commented before I finished the vid (need to get better at that haha)
Set up interviews plz father Ben
moja and prado got the rocket fuel
Prado was solid! ☕️
Haha, I used to be a delivery driver for Moja when they were only in NV - shoutout Andrew!
Ben De God
I get what you're saying but HOW DARE YOU compare Timmy's to Dunkin.
Vancouver sucks. It takes forever to get across even if there's no traffic.
Come down & try Seattle to Tacoma in rush hour 🤣
Vancouver is nothing compared to the Seatac area😅
@@bendegros Well god bless, as long as you can make it work!
good vid i subbd
thanks guy
