Tips on single point threading

- Talking with another metalworking hobbiest, he was having trouble with single point threading and that got me thinking about what I do.
The video is a collection of observations about the things I do and what I think of as good practice.
I don't mention gearing or thread indicators as that is different for different lathes. This is just what I do...
As someone that has been doing this for 44 years now (not a button pusher, CNC) good job! A little tip,... when setting up or "chasing" (as we say on this side of the pond) put a piece of note paper on the carriage (or under the tool) and cup your hand over the top. The light coming up through the bottom of the tool makes it very easy to center the tool back in the thread. When doing this for the setup, you can easily see if the tool is the slightest bit crooked. If you can't see light around your tool, you've got a very square set up. Give it a try, good luck 😊
Good thought. My QCTP is pretty solid, but occasionally I do move it. When I do I usually check with the fishtail; that would work with that too.

Thank you, well presented and I'm glad you didn't include the 29' compound offset angle, I think it would have confused the tutorial(maybe next time).👍
I never use an angle offset, even when doing things like ACME threads. I get a serviceable result without it, so why complicate things?
