Everybody likes to beat the Post Office. I'm a gunsmith out in the Texas Hill Country, and I think they're the best deal going. Only one lost page in 20+ years, a 1919 MG barrel. When I explained to the postal inspector is was only a barrel, not the whole gun, (essentially a piece of pipe) they cheerfully and quickly sent me a check for the insured amount. USPS is the best deal going for out in the woods where I am as far as I'm concerned.
They are. Not only that, they don't charge extra for delivery to residential addresses, which any private shipping company does. God bless the Postal Service!
Agreed, my company sends out thousands of packages a year with USPS, it's rare to have any issue. That said, the last couple months haven't been as good, I hope things get back to normal soon.
@@IBWatchinUrVids Unfortunately, not any more. They've ruined the venerable mail service. My order of 8 items was sent to the east coast and was lost as well. From what I saw on TV, they have no plans to undo the downsizing. Glad there's still Fed Ex.
Canadian here.... Our postal service is by no means perfect, but not as bad (yet) as yours seems to have become. People here, to avoid the perils of Porch Pirates & missed deliveries, have UPS or whoever deliver packages to the local post office (!!!) for pick up rather than to their home. I love your content Keith! I do wish you would show the use of that table saw you rebuilt. (I'm mostly a woodworker and love those classic industrial machines) Thanks!
And Amazon has set up lockboxes in lots of public locations, like convenience stores. If anyone is having trouble with people stealing their Amazon packages, try one of the Amazon lockers, they work great.
I ship a LOT of packages each week with USPS, to include world wide. They've never lost one. They've damaged a couple of my packages in route but quickly paid for any damage. I think USPS does a fine job and their rates are appreciated by my customers. Nice job and filming on the nuts Keith. Well done.
I had a similar experience with USPS over the last 2.5 weeks. Bought a tool holder on eBay and within 2 days it was at my regional facility, but then the next day it ended up on the other side of the country and it took another 2 weeks for it to get to my door. Grabbed the box out of the mailbox and it felt way too light for an old toolholder. I opened it up and sure enough the tool holder was gone. Looked like at some point the box may have came open and they just closed it up with masking tape... I used to like dealing with USPS, but not so much lately. Thanks for the great video as always, Keith!
A similar occurrence happened to a friend of mine. He even bought insurance but they are jerking him around on that. About 8mo after the loss, he went to a regional USPS auction where they auction off stuff in lots on a pallet that they couldn't find out where it was supposed to go. Yeah, pallets! That's how much stuff gets "lost" by USPS. You know, the stuff they screw-up and then can't deliver. Yeah, they sell it off to the highest bidder and pocket the money. Anyway, there it was, my friends item. Plain as day. They would not take it off the auction and somebody bought the lot. My friends item is VERY specific, fairly rare item that was not produced in large numbers, and, he had tons of pictures clearly identifying it. Yet those lazy bastards still "couldn't" identify and find it all those months before the auction. Here we are two years in and they STILL have not paid out the insurance.
@@CryhavocMike Did you friend try to make contact with the winner of the lot to buy his parcel back? Not ideal paying twice but if as rare as you say...
My Canadian experience receiving articles from the States through USPS has been very favourable. FedX and UPS always hit me up for duties and import fees. USPS doesn’t. Excellent threading video Keith!
I've had bad experience with FedEx also. I live in the states. When i order things online and they come USPS they get here when the tracking says. Sometimes a day before even. I've had 3 things shipped recently with FedEx and twice they have arrived days after the tracking date. They will stop at every station across the country it seems. I had one get to Oregon in a timely manner on a fri, supposed to be delivered on mon tracking said, but it sat in the same warehouse until Wed and finally it got here on Fri. A full week late. I live just across the river in Washington, so it should not have taken 5 days to get from where it was to where i live. I could have driven, maybe 1 hour each way, and picked it up if possible, that's how close it was. So ya, if i have a choice i go with USPS and definitely Not FedEx.
I live in Australia and have had nothing but positive experience with USPS too. Its almost like the service has been recently sabotaged by someone, i feel for you guys and hope things improve.

I order ALOT of stuff from Rock Auto, and the Fedex shipping has always been excellent, even through the current world issues. USPS was also fine, until recently when it hits the Canadian boarder. Ever since the pandemic there has be MASSIVE delays with Canada post. I just wish things were normal again...
Inside threads have always been an issue for me especially left hand until I was at our plant in Germany 2 years ago and the machinist showed me some tricks, now it is no big deal, Thanks Keith.
I can feel your pain, I had a package arrive at the local post office hours later show out for delivery in a different city!!! Three days later it finally showed up at my house.
Canada too. Our postal service is struggling with changing from lots of lettermail and junk flyers that no one tracks and don't care if it is late to parcel delivery where people actually want the stuff yesterday.
In a way I'm glad to hear the comments on the USPS, I thought it was mostly a problem here in Hawaii, but I see the same problem happening elsewhere. For years I had good service, but the last year has been really iff'y... Many times the package never shows leaving the original facility and there are NO tracking updates, most of the time 4 to 6 weeks later it will show up, but not always. Our nemesis is Honolulu things track up to there and then disappear forever. In all fairness I have seen all services go downhill in the last couple of years, Amazon is a good example of that.
My experience with the USPS lately has not been good either. Order a part from Indiana and somehow it winds up in Orlando Fl, instead of Tx, But mine finally arrived. But some of them are empty packages when they come. Also keep delivering mail to the wrong mail box even after talking to them about it. Glad you could still do this.

I had the same problem with the post office. A certified check mailed 30 miles from my house took a month to reach me, they sent it to Bakersfield, Ca. And then back to Dallas, and then finally to Chandler, Tx where I live.
Reminds me of the time my friend mailed me a parcel. Medium USPS flat rate box, weighed just under 20 LBs. They scanned it in at the post office and 3 weeks it did not move. He went into the post office and saw the box.... under their frigging Christmas tree display. It was very distinct with customs labels and tons of tape since it was coming to Canada. So he asks them why it was sitting there under a display and they get indignant an say those boxes are all empty. He demands they go pick up the one with all the wrapping tape and starts getting really pissed off when they can't explain why it was scanned then put under a display in a public area where it sat for weeks. They didn't even give him a shipping cost refund for that.
Hi Kieth, I ordered a tool that was to come from a NJ warehouse. It took FIVE months via some joint in Sweden to get to me in Canada, just north of Detroit. That's USPS for you. UPS aren't much better and as someone else pointed out the ding you for duty and clearance fees. FedEx air is my go to. No duty, unless it's real big and expensive but on your doorstep overnight. my home town in very northern Maine on the canada border the post office is used by lots of canadian as thier post service is bad. you will get this part in about 3 more months.
I have a friend who has been getting two important prescriptions by USPS for 12 years. The last two months they have been two weeks then three weeks late. He had them switched to UPS for next month. I'm sure this snafu will be getting fixed in around 90 days.
Off of e-bay, I ordered 4 bearings. All bearings were in different locations. Only 1 of the bearings made it to me on time as posted with the tracking info. The final bearing took 10 days to go 100 miles. It went through the Chicago distribution center 3 times before they finally shipped it out to the correct post office for delivery.

I ordered some stamps from USPS online on August 17th. I got the notice that they were shipped on the 19th. Today is the 24th and they haven't arrived yet. I used to get them the day after I ordered them.

Your aggravated is my calm voice! Fed Ex and UPS are merging and will now be called Fed Ups.. Don't get me started on Fed-ex.. Give a 3 year old a marker and a US map, and that's about the path one of my packages travelled.. It was a Kohler engine, and by the time I finally got it, it looked like it spent a week in a cement truck
I had the same thing happen recently. The package got open and they lost the contents but they delivered the empty box with a letter telling me to submit a claim.
You endeavor to persevere Great job, well done! You and Keith Fenner are the best, one for instrucional videos the other fo more difficult day by day specialty work!
I ordered a belt for a mower on 8.13. Came today via USPS and DHL was mixed up in there somewhere. All the way from Ohio. I’m in S Fla. We’re done when they start handing millions of ballots.
Yes our post offices are way screwed up. I'm in Virginia. Ordered something from Tennessee. Tracking showed it left Tenn. Went to Ohio then Pa. Then back to Va. Then NC. Then came back to Va. NO WONDER THE RATES ARE SO HIGH! The Post Office has been around forever and this happens all the time. Sorry that happened to you Sir.
Keith, I can _definitely_ tell that you were aggravated while filming this video! You normally seem so cool, calm, & collected that this time was a surprise, but I truly understand where you're coming from here. Did you notice that during your threading cuts that the dial indicator needle moved .002-.003-in. each time? That may be why it appears that you had to cut deeper than "the book" said was needed. You're using a big, apparently rigid lathe, but that's a lot of movement for such light cuts, isn't it? I'd be interested in seeing what you find is the cause of this deflection(?).
Not to leave out FedEx. I found a security hex set at Home Depot, needed to order and they used FedEx to ship to store in Knoxville. They got it all the way to Paducah, Kentucky (should have gone to Nashville next) but they sent it to KS, then CO before I started making calls and spending all my spare time trying to find out what is going on. Could have had it last week. Today I was in the store after work. It had been delivered at 2:30, but still wasn't available at 5. Went to Lowe's to get material to work on garage door. HD texted me at 6:45 that my order was ready. Another reason to switch to Lowe's and UPS.
It never fails, On a critical package it gets lost or delivered to the wrong addy and you never see it again. You order some cheap piece of junk and it's in your mailbox the next day without issue.
USPS lost your tap.. USPS lost a brand new set of oxy acetylene torch regulators that I got for a real bargain on ebay......They lost my city utility payment one month..City hall is nine blocks from our home and the post office is in between.....Now do we want mail in voting? Love your vids.. Cheers; Mike in Louisiana
I ship usps almost daily, 99.9% of the time all goes smoothly. In past month usps has lost 3 packages, 2 were ultimately found weeks later. According to the investigator I spoke with, this is a recent problem.......
Similar experience; ordered a computer part 27July2020 (ebay purchase), with guaranteed delivery by 3August2020. It showed up 13Aug202... the package was stuck in Va for 5 days!
If they find your tap will you see if they can find all of my things that they have lost over the past three months or so? They have an indexable insert dovetail cutter, carbide inserts, and an engineers reference book. Those are just the things they lost and never found. I ordered a good USA made 3" 4tpi tap that they lost for several weeks, but eventually located. I was pretty sick over that one. Hopefully they find your tap, and hopefully you need a 5/8 left hand tap in the future.
UPS to Canada is pretty expensive. I always try to get anything I order from the US sent through the postal service. I've never had any trouble that way. UPS and FedX charge a "brokerage fee" on top of shipping, even if there are no customs charges.
Keith, don't feel like the Lone Ranger, it took the USPS 82 days to finally deliver a Second Day Priority box of assorted machine tools to Ca from WV! I feel your pain!
If shipping by UPS, pack that thing in a foot of foam rubber, and then in a crush proof steel case. They delivered me a bix that had been driven over by one of their trucks, complete with tire mark. They refused responsibility, saying the package was not strong enough. There we got it, UPS wants your packages strong enough to support a truck!
The post office was pretty reliable until the past year. So far they have lost two of my tracked packages and now the tracking system is almost useless.
I always put a small amount of insurance on my stuff- it costs a bit more, but I always believed that when they scan a package and it shows as insured, it goes to a different sort line.
Forgive what may be a stupid question Keith, I am not a machinist by any stretch of the imagination but why couldn't you cut off enough material for the 4 nuts and put that chunk into the chuck to bore out the threads all the way down then cut off the nuts as needed that now have been threaded instead of one at a time ? I love watching your video's and learn a great deal that I apply to different scenarios I come across in my profession. Thanks for another great video.

the fact that it is a money pit ( like most government run entities ) that has been going in debt well before e-mail was invented and only around as it is to keep FedEx and UPS prices low when it comes to shipping packages. the USPS has some great workers, but the system is antiquated.

had problems with UPS losing 3 packages on me in 2 cases it was medication from the VA than a shipment of ammo. (2 lb Black Power). No packages yet lost by USPS but 15 days to go 15-20 miles, had to go to VA ER as it was medications 90 day supply.
I ordered some stamps from USPS online on August 17th. I got the notice that they were shipped on the 19th. Today is the 24th and they haven't arrived yet. I used to get them the day after I ordered them.
Man, there's a LOT going on in that title...
Not a lot of guess work as to what the video contains :)
Lucky it wasn’t a 2 or 3 start. :)
I made a 4 start LH internal acme thread once. The pitch was huge.
It was for a sewerage mincer which took all the fun out of it :)
No I didn’t have to install it.
Keith it's every where the same these days. Here in the Netherlands also. They don't care about package send around. Hope it will arive at your adress. Keep up the good work you do, and the videos. I like them a lot.
The way things are going, his package will probably show up at _your_ address.
Make sure you put that item inside two boxes and they are not small enough to fit in a regular mail box and label both boxes
17:27 - Yes you can do something about it, vote.
Interesting to see the tool post / compound flex even on a "professional" machine.
I don't want to 'bore' you with the other three. belting.
Made it look easy Keith.
Keith, now that you have those done, the tap will show up in the mail today :)
I had the same thing happen but they said the packaging wasn't good enough. Company wouldn't replace it.
Good job and solution.
We’re done when they start handing millions of ballots.
l always ship UPS....Thanks Keith fine job as always....!
Sweet!
Glad YOU didn't go postal! BLESSINGS!
And I bet it shows up in a day or so...that is the way these things work for me...lol. great job as always Keith... thanks for sharing...Vic
thanks for that knowledge
Yes our post offices are way screwed up. I'm in Virginia. Ordered something from Tennessee. Tracking showed it left Tenn. Went to Ohio then Pa. Then back to Va. Then NC. Then came back to Va. NO WONDER THE RATES ARE SO HIGH! The Post Office has been around forever and this happens all the time. Sorry that happened to you Sir.
very good video..thanks for your time
👍👍👍💖. I always ship UPS, because I know it’s going to get to that destination in good condition!
I noticed that with the dial indicator too. As AvE says, everything’s a spring!
3 minutes after he finished the last nut, the postman delivered the tap.
I picked Tomorrow LOL
@@ypop417 Yeah- probably a lot of guys are waiting for a 30 second video from Keith telling how the tap showed up soon after the job was done.
OLD SCHOOL h
Murphy's Law strikes again!
Two weeks!
It never fails, On a critical package it gets lost or delivered to the wrong addy and you never see it again. You order some cheap piece of junk and it's in your mailbox the next day without issue.
I had an item come from Texas took 6 weeks by the post office.
Nice! Thumbs up, and wishes for better luck with the mail from here on out!
Just think of how the United States Postal Service is going to handle all those mail-in ballots for our favorite contestants LOL
You might have a follower to your YT channel at the delivery company because we all wanted to see you make the left hand nuts. Thanks for the video. 🙂
Keith, could you please show the "threading gauge" you read, when cutting threads....
The post office was pretty reliable until the past year. So far they have lost two of my tracked packages and now the tracking system is almost useless.
I always put a small amount of insurance on my stuff- it costs a bit more, but I always believed that when they scan a package and it shows as insured, it goes to a different sort line.
Odd that the service has dropped off now, with all the political interference...
I haven’t yet had a problem with the USPS.
You know that tap is going to show up today.
Kieth FYI John Deere uses a hex shaft to drive the header and for what ever reason they replace that shaft when bearings go bad it’s about 10 ft long the ones l see in the recycle bin , you might want to make friends with a local dealer for a cheap iron supply
So the tap should arrive today... Don't ship UPS to Canada, Overnight from Toronto to Ottawa (3 1/2 Hr drive) takes 4 days!
I have a package shipped 7.31 from Independence Ky, Estimated eta 8.11. Still have not received. Something rotten in the state of KY- at least at the postal service.
I see a lot of comments about the missing tap.
Would it have been possible to of threaded two or more nuts in one pass and then parted them off?
hast du gut gemacht, mach weiter so!!👍👍✌
always get a receipt when you take your eBay packages to the post office. it's your only defense.
Your not alone with bad parcel post. No better down under I’ll give you the drum. Covid has taken its toll on a already impaired service. Don’t buy out of the country and you have half a chance of it getting to ya in two or three weeks. Bright side you fixed it , a lot of others could not. 👍
Have you a link to a video where you detail how you engage the half nut while watching the dial on the feed screw?
Better to send small things in a bottle over rivers.
USPS is struggling you say? Hmmm, I wonder why.........
Seriously. An institution required by article 1 of the Constitution itself is under attack by one of our political parties. This is absolutely disgusting.

the fact that it is a money pit ( like most government run entities ) that has been going in debt well before e-mail was invented and only around as it is to keep FedEx and UPS prices low when it comes to shipping packages.
the USPS has some great workers, but the system is antiquated.
ROTTK9 The USPS is a public service mandated by the USC, it’s not supposed to compete in the free market.
I had a USPS driver steal a new half inch impact gun, they fired him but I never received the gun or money back.
I feel like there’s an election joke in here, but I don’t want to upset anyone. 😂
It’s always nice to make the thing you need!
