    Another designer said silver was coming back, but I will never give up my gold/brass. I love and prefer the warm metals especially higher quality.

      I think chrome, aluminum and what not can look kinda good in a warm space with warm lighting. All that reflectivity can be utilized well in the right context. I think CB2 nails that look even with the super clean, shiny almost chrome look.

    • @QueenOfKings0402
      @QueenOfKings0402 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKaurK for me I am very much about the color wheel and tonality of things. In reference to my personal palette (my clothes and most of my home decor) which is a very warm undertone, adding a cool metal or even a neutral tone metal would eventually clash. The colors that are being pushed are still in the warm family. I just think the aluminum is just a reaction to the warm golds. Yes in theory it would look good in a neutral tone home but for me, gold/brass has been an awakening. (She im being dramatic 😂) And I’m not speaking for everyone but for me I just will stay in my Golden lane, this trend I’ll just have to skip.

      Same! Even before I was into interior design I leaned towards more gold jewelry etc growing up. It's good to know what you like personally and spend your money that way.

    Love your channel! I do want to offer up this thought: a lot of what RH sells at CRAZY HIGH prices, are just reincarnations of some truly beautiful vintage, authentic pieces that you can find in vintage stores for a fraction of the price. New is not always better- in fact, I think every room should have something "old" in it. It just gives the space a patina that you can't replicate in the "bring the showroom home" look.

    • @cq8822
      @cq8822 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Each room should have an old piece and something black. RH is way overrated.

    • @ashleyw9340
      @ashleyw9340 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree…an experienced interior designer has always used these elements. They will typically use antiques or vintage and mix with more contemporary pieces. None of these are shocking. Burl wood is classic. Mid century icons like Mies van der Rohe used chrome, as did Milo Baughman. The highest end fabric manufacturers, Like Schumacher, Scalamandre, etc have always had animal prints. I think she may be a little out of touch when it comes to authentic, eclectic design.

    Not at all surprised to hear that the silver metals are back in. I am sure it is a backlash to the overdone gold/brass metal thing. The exact same thing happened when brass was EVERYWHERE in the 1970s. I think the problem with the gold toned metals is that it becomes so popular that manufacturers start to slap some cheap gold/brass coating on anything and everything. It then makes brass look cheap. I lived through the 1970s brass thing and became so”traumatized” by the cheap look that when it came back “in” in the 2000s, I still had PTSD from the overdone 1970s.

      This is so true for me too! I loved gold jewellery and brass hardware, but some cheap versions quickly look like a DIY spray paint project unless it’s real gold or unlacquered brass. Silver metals are much harder to cheapen because they already come in a variety of finishes (aluminium, chrome, polished nickel, stainless steel, etc). I absolutely welcome the silver metals because they help tie in the stainless steel appliances and fittings, and are also more understated.

    My Granddaughter styled her first NY City apartment. She wanted her BR all white & black, tranquil sanctuary to rest after long day dancing in Commercial Dance program. We found an antique white high gloss dresser from 1971 signed by Pierre Cardin. Now I am seeing high gloss finish even on refrigerators! Now you tell me stainless steel is in? All trim & hardware on her antique piece is stainless. Amazing how something 50 yrs old can be so on trend. They sell for thousands online but I paid only $400!

    Silver tones does not surprise me! I had silver and grey overload tones and decor in 2014 and been on the brown, tan, black and cream boat ever since. But I’ve been feeling grey come back in my mind as something I want to incorporate into my home once again (just not overload this time lol) and I have been looking at silver jewelry as well! Sometimes, you can just “feel” trends coming in, right?!!!! I’m excited about it!

    I was WAY TOO happy to see gold and brass come back to give it up now. The silver feels too cold to me and I'm really loving the warmth that copper/brass/gold give to a room. I usually source my stuff from antique shops, so normally get pretty good quality pieces.

    Aluminum? Who knew? Thanks Valentina! Great topics! My Dad worked at a major Aluminum manufacturing plant when I was a kid. One of the perks is you got rolls of aluminum Christmas wrapping paper(aluminum foil) the rolls were different colors and boy did they shimmer and shine! Especially when the lights from the tree hit the presents under the tree... The rolls were also heavy. Very heavy. And long like normal wrapping paper. This was back in the 1960's when I was very little.
    Your topic today made me think of that... I think I still prefer the warm metals and finishes. And I love ficus trees. My ficus tree at work loves office lighting and filtered light from our office windows. The fur covered chair? Not practical for daily use as the fue will get matted down and not wear well. But for like a vacation home, etc. Where it would get less use... Especially like you said a Chalet... 😊

  • @mayeighteen2812

    Absolutely welcoming the silver tones, as lots of authentic vintage furniture (esp mid century pieces) are chrome. It’s also a lot more understated than brass, and won’t look as cheap or spray painted esp if they’re matte. Polished nickel is stunning. Also here for gunmetal and bronze metals. I like black hardware but they’re kinda overdone too since the modern farmhouse era… your leather closet pulls are an exception though.😉

    I’ve always teetered between gold and silver tones - beginning with jewelry, as they both suit my complexion beautifully but uniquely. I always felt like I was doing something “wrong” before the days of TH-cam!
    Mixing jewelry has empowered me to mix materials throughout my home as well.
    I am so relieved that the days of hard rules are over. The average consumer can watch these thoughtful videos and feel empowered to mix/match metals (and other materials) to create a timeless but unique look they will genuinely love. The days of overhauling the home with every new trend are gone! Your videos give me fresh inspiration and ideas to help our home feel alive, but in a way that is both sustainable and elegant.

    I am a huge fan of sheepskin, so I can tell you a bit about how it wears -- Valentina, let me know if you want pictures.
    When you sit/lie *on* it, it does loose some loft eventually. It depends on how much you sit/lie on it, but mostly on if you twist it. Twisting and scrunching it essentially felts it.
    Pillows for the back, absolutely no signs of wear even with daily usage for 3 years. I have sheepskin Ikea pillow covers on my dining room chair seats (also 3 years). I twist in a bit under the table and then back out, so that shows more wear than what you don't sit directly on.
    I have a wool mattress pad too. It's not sheep skin, but it is 100% wool constructed with 3 inch pile like shearling. I'm a restless sleeper, so I move around a lot (8 hrs a night), so it has lost some loft (it's about 1 - 1/2 inches now after 4 years).
    I'm entirely happy with how my things have worn. Everything is still cushy.
    What you do need to do is get a wool carding comb to occasionally fluff anything that you sit or lie on regularly. It looks like one of those large brushes made of metal for pets. It's designed to make sure that the fibers are straight enough to spin the wool.
    I've never brushed the pillows, I do the chair pads a couple of times a year, and I try to do the mattress every month since it gets so much wear. The mattress pad is a pain, but it's totally worth it. I don't think that any other pad wears as well, and is so comfortable.
    It's that miracle fiber that's warm in the winter and cool in the summer, so I don't swap them seasonally. Try getting a pillow cover from Ikea and test out sitting on it.
    I don't have a cat, but I'll bet that even if they scratched it *a lot* you'd never know.

    Weeping figs are my favorite tree, always have been. Had a massive 15 year old one in my loft but had to sell it when I adopted a couple of cats who kept trying to eat it (as they are toxic). If they're becoming more trendy I'm hoping someone will make a really good artificial one.

    Not sad silver is coming back, I have brushed silver hardware and door knobs I had changed out the brass to silver years ago and wasn't about to bring gold back haha. I'm not thrilled with the taupe and camel wall colors I've been seeing ppl doing lately why because I already did those colors in the early 2000's before everything went gray. It's too soon for me to bring those colors back in wall colors maybe accessories but not wall colors. I'm waiting for palm trees to be back in style so I can sell the ones I have sitting in my basement LOL! I did buy black and white fabric to use on the back of a cane chair that looks like a modern cheetah print still debating on doing the seat and back cushion in either white canvas or white dupioni silk I have both materials just can't decide which to use yet :)

    I'd love it if you would do a video on mixing GOOD traditional furniture with transitional furniture. I have some beautiful Henkel Harris mahogany pieces that I brought with me to my new Coastal style house. I don't want to get rid of them, they're so expensive now, but want some ideas on how to incorporate them with my newer, lighter casegoods and upholstered pieces.

    Ficus trees has been big in interior design for maybe two years in Sweden. Those furry stols and fuhrs has been seen for many years and I feel they are more like a passed chapter here. The brand Kamelo used to have amazing animal pillows and so many beautiful interior items. I miss that brand. I can understand that camel colour. We see a lot of light walls and interior in natural leather and rattan here these days. The camel colour is a bit the same. Guess it might be big here as well. I think we just passed a dark trend with dark walls. It was dark grey but also some dark blue or dark green. Now it is many light walls again and natural materials like rattan and light natural wood and neutral untreated matte leather that is also a bit camel.

      but pls tell me swedes hate the animal print as much as most of us do ??lol

    • @stinaljungstrom8691
      @stinaljungstrom8691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FrazzledVirgoHaha... I guess so, because I actually never saw any animal print at any relatives or friends houses here. I just saw them in some shops or design magazines. Most common here is more of a scandinavian style, light and airy and quite often a bit casual. I mean not so very high end, but light, nice, airy and not so much nick nack. Well some elderly has a more "crowded" style with a lot of figurines, and big, dark old furniture with ornaments. If there were hunters in the family (qutie commons here) they also can have a lot of animal heads at the walls, wich I find quite morbide. It's more people over 80 that has it, these days. These days many in Sweden are quite PK, so dead animals is not something the younger generations want to support. They would protest aginst it. Younger persons often think in a sustainable way. They eat vegetarian food and would never have dead animals like decor or in their bags or clothes. Most I would say have a light home with many streamlined white furiture mixed with some natural materials like a wooden table and wooden floors. Some has a farmhouse style, often light as well, or a mix of them. It can be both new and old furnitre bought second hand. We also normally buy a lot of home decor at IKEA. But even H&M and other shops has nice up to date decor for a great price. Some persons (like me) also mix with some design pieces, like maybe some lamps. In the upper class design furniture is much more common. It can be an italian streamlined sofa, or a Howard sofa, Josef Frank fabrics mixed with some chairs from Philippe Starck, often some Myran chairs, a glossy white Ellipse table, a PH lamp and some danish design pieces for example. They are placed with much empty space inbetween. Often the every-day-items we have are beautiful, like the cups, bowls, pillows, blankets and candle holders. We don't have so many decorations without purpose, except from some flowers placed in nice pots. The design of the house can also be an important part of the "home decor". In older houses and flats there are lovely widows, doors and other details which we love. Some new and very minimaliatic houses are also popular, but those are more common in the more expensive areas. Maybe some of them has the animal prints, I actuallty dont know.

      @@stinaljungstrom8691 yea I got to go there in college I saw no one wearing animal print ha in America it’s really you love it or hate no in between! @@FrazzledVirgo😊 I think one zebra cushion can be cool as a statement, like in Valentina's home. I must say zebra because I don't think leopard would looks good at all in any home. Many animal prints also can look really tacky, in my opinion. I mean animal printed curtains in all windows would just look really cheap, instead of cool. 😅 But a little box with zebra fabric or a pillow in a big room is fine with me, if the rest is toned down. I guess I also feel like it belongs in special environments. I think it can fit perfectly well in a pent house, a dark stylish New Youk apartment or in a safari retreat. In our house it would be to much.

    I'm trendy and didn't know it! (HA!) I've had a live ficus tree for almost 10 years, a camel colored blazer (20 years), and bought caramel/cognac colored kitchen stools last year. Not quite ready to fully jump on the aluminum yet (it feels cold to me), but who knows? I have a cow-hide rug, but haven't added other animal prints yet. Oh! And I just bought a suitcase this week that has the blackened-out trend. Thanks for a peek into these, always fun to see! BTW: I LOVE your new dark cabinets!
