The 2nd reason why the Boks can even think of fielding the Nuke Squad is because it has a very young and dynamic backline with Libbok, Kolbe, Arendse and Willemse. Any one of them can make something out of nothing or disrupt a very skilled attacking backline. We saw that in the Scotland game.
I love this 7-1 split! Besides the obvious mind games it presents it’s also tactically so astute because this Bok team has the highest average age in the World Cup. When the bomb squad was introduced some years back it had the effect of extending the longevity of many senior SA forwards by spreading the load and game minutes. This World Cup is the finale of this tactic because it means that should they reach the final most of the forwards would have played 3-4 games instead of 7 in combined minutes. This has kept them fresh, motivated and less susceptible to serious game day injuries which can occur more often when players are burnt out from too much game time. They’ve obviously been able to do this because of the depth of the squad. Master stroke in my opinion.
I think a 6-2 bench would be a knee jerk reaction for Ireland. South Africa are doing something they know worked once, and a lot of their backs are able to play in multiple positions. Having said that, Ireland don’t cough up easy ball, they’re the most disciplined side in the game and they’re incredibly accurate. They’ll be very confident in their game plan on Saturday, no matter what it is.

Such an interesting game. 7:1 split presents its own problems too, if two backs get injured then you have a flanker having to play at center. Also If the backs on the field aren't all on their game there is only one option off the bench to remedy it. Will be interesting, arguably Ireland just need to hold their ground up front, they don't necessarily have to out muscle or win the forward battle, as long as they are not dominated they should the edge elsewhere. Two very consistent teams, history would favour South Africa's style overall I guess!
We beat them convincingly the last time we played and we also beat NZ. Sexton will outclass them and our forwards will show we are stronger. we are the best team in the world! This will be an easy game for Ireland 🇮🇪 I predict 45-9 to Ireland and we go on to win the world cup🎉🎉🎉we are the champions! easy
@@kylegrove2165And some Irishmen are claiming that South Africans are arrogant!😂 An end of season tour test in Ireland is NOT a World Cup game! Just drop the hubeis and try to enjoy a huge game between two great sides.
The current Springbok coach team is top notch. Playing a chess game before the match and saying they don't want their starting line up to be leaked is beautiful. I like how none of the pundits in this clip are not calling for world rugby to intervene is class.
Think it would be a mistake for Farrell to name a 6-2 to counter SA as it would give that psychological edge to the Boks knowing that they made Ireland change to play their game rather than the other way around and will play in the backs of players minds.
And if he doesn’t the Boks might get the edge believing the bomb squad will own the last 20. Ireland need to not think like that and play their own game. A 7-1 split is hard to ignore, but at the end of the day it’s one extra fresh forward. While I don’t advocate for intentionally injuring players, I’d say they need to focus on running hard at the backs, Libbok in particular. They know SA will be doing the same.
What a conundrum for Ireland. If they go 6-2 to find some parity, they move away from their game plan which is fast paced continuous phase play which breaks down opposition defence structures. Stick to a 5-3 bench, they still have to play against 8 forwards and 7 backs but the bomb squad will keep the ball up front and kick for the corner everytime. Big boys tasked to empty the tank in the last 35 minutes. Rassie is such a clever coach
LOL at the presenters - they look very uneasy ... I suspect the Springboks will win this one, but the field will be strewn with casualties (both sides).
I think Ireland have to consider "giving" up this game. They are in a difficult position. If they counter, then it becomes a game of attrition, thing is though, if Ireland lose a Van de Flier or Tadgh Beirne, they have no similar quality to replace for upcoming matches while SA do, easily. SA have a simple plan.. play in Irish territory, send big boys down the 10 channel at Johnny and see where the chips fall. For everyone saying that Ireland should speed up the game. SA slows down front foot ball more than any other country, then they use their wingers in the passing channels like they did against NZ. So I am interested to see how Ireland adapts.
Off The Ball viewing numbers peak on Springbok related videos. They should consider offering a Rand based subscription option for these viewers and listeners
The only reason the Boks can pull off something so risky and audacious as a 7-1 split is because of the backline players they have, not enough emphasis being given to that. Versatility and X- factor everywhere. Risky , but calculated. Massive respect for Ireland.
Wow Wow....another exciting ,intimidating move by the world champions. The 7-1 split nuclear weapon is back.. its a ''catch me if you can'' game. The Bok's confident early team announcements are just Gold👌, its like they prefer the other teams to counteract their squad and not the other way around 🇿🇦 🇿🇦 🇿🇦 🇿🇦.
SA are attempting to inflict so much damage to the Ireland team, knowing that both teams will go through, they can't risk a skill battle and also Ireland don't have the same depth as the boks, so if they meet again it will be a depleted Irish side. It doesn't get any more basic than this, ' we are just going to have huge men run into you for 80 minutes and stop you playing', the butcher of Bilbao v Maradona comes to mind.
I'm sure nobody in the Ireland camp cares. They know that bringing on a bunch of forwards hoping to bulldoze teams is how SA always play. "Innovative", lol. Nothing has changed.
Tell me how many top teams has Ireland beat in the Quater-Finals? Tell me how many World Cups did Ireland win? that’s no, Ok by 2043 Ireland will be still trying to get in to that Frist Semi-Finals😂😂😂😂
Lol ..only last 2 years..has ireland even sat at the top table ...now dishing out advice and bravado lol ...only won last time for a dodgy ref and we had no kicker ..then only won by 3 points ....
The 7:1 split, without doubt, is designed to ramp up the ‘physical’ aspect of the game. Hopefully, organisers and spectators of the sport won't regret it and that the game will be remembered for the all right reasons
Ireland played South Africa once in the last 4 years at home last year so i hear some Irish saying we beat them last year therefore we shown we are better than them. Comparing this bok team to the one the Irish played last year is silly. If the Irish team go with that mindset they are in for a shocking & humbling experience.
South Africa don’t have to win this game and will still go through. There is more pressure on Ireland to win as they still have Scotland. SA can take a gamble now and still end up playing Ireland later in the final with a fundamentally different game plan.
Would this have had a better effect for SA if they waited until the last moment to announce this ploy? Maybe, but I think the strength of Andy Farrells Ireland is its flexibility and Andy's view that nothing is a problem but simply a challenge to meet.
We always announce our team on a tuesday. It's the way we've always done it... two amazing teams playing very different types of rugby... may the best team win.
We are innovative, and not scared to ring the changes. Do Ireland react? I don’t think it’s the great risk everyone is going on about. It’s a calculated risk and if we pull it off, it will be considered genius. Really looking forward to the game. Two Titans coming together! 🇿🇦
nice to see some respectful comments from south African fans as opposed to the many comments across social media in the last few weeks that are both disrespectful, arrogant and just stupid tbh.
The Boks are essentially saying “ Okay, you’re the No.1 team in the world right? Well, let’s see if you are made of the right stuff” This is psychological warfare from the Springboks. The Irish management team will know they need to get parity upfront to stand a chance, doesn’t matter how silky or smart they think they are. Without front foot ball - the game is over. New Zealand saw that first hand. So I’ll be very interested to see what team Ireland name - bookies have the Boks to end the streak and if you have to think that if we play the same way we did at Twickenham - we will be very hard stop.
France thought they would do the same , but the Irish pack hit back just as hard, still got plenty of front foot ball. No team in world rugby will totally dominate the Irish pack.
I highly doubt that we would have selected a 7-1 if we couldn't afford to lose this game. We will make it to the quarters, allowing us to try some things.
Nothing unfair in this. It's also a massive risk, two backs injuries and they have to play a back rower in the centres. Best thing for World Rugby to do would be to reduce the bench to 4/5 players. 2 fronts rowers, space for one utility forward and one utility back.
THE NUKE SQUADS GOT EVERYONE TALKING...LOVE IT! ALL OTHER TEAMS ARE GOING TO FOLLOW THIS TREND BY THE SPRINGBOKS! HOPEFULLY WORLD RUGBY DOESNT CHANGE THE RULES OF THE BENCH BY THEN! It really makes the game so much more interesting!
You guys must have seen how we tied up the AB's at Twickenham! Their only way to the try-line was through the middle by their new young centre. There was no way to score via the conventional set pieces and conventional plays! Unconventional, totally and absolutely unconventional that's how the boks dismantled the AB's!
God Irish pundits are great, good sports, respectful, positive.. and of course knowledgeable... i am stuck in NZ with The Breakdown..and they have been pretty much imploding over the last month...
Not all Irish pundits, that Matt Williams bloke (actually australian) called the 7-1 split an abomination to the game and that the springboks arr abusing the bench
I have to say that the Boks putting up a 7/1 bench is a sign that they're probably not terrified of losing this match. They're chancing their arm, content to lose within 7 and take the BP. I'ts a massive gamble for them, one I don't think they'd take in knockout rugby. Which I would never suggest they're throwing the game, they are probably more relaxed about trying a few things..... Which ironically will make them even more dangerous.
Bokkes need to disguise at least or completely not show there moves as they have made the quarters, disclosing everything to top the group could be fatal to bokke in the quarters going forward
Ireland don't need to worry too much about the 7:1 split, they just need to focus on their own game and stay doing what they've been doing over the past 18 months to 2 years, obviously do their homework but don't change just to suit this game, they've shown their hand keep the cards close to the chest and when the whistle blows that's when it matters, Ireland can win this game, SA can too but if Ireland get their game going, it's theirs for the taking, trust in the process, and stick together as a team it's the big one and were plenty good enough
This thread clearly elucidates how sick to the back teeth most people are with South African and NZ trolls. The infect every rugby thread dragging it down. To hell with them. I hope ANYONE other than those two win the RWC 2023.
Andy Farrell is no eejit and will know exactly what he has to do,as do the players. All games need a little luck and hopefully Ireland get that. Two great teams with great talent.Lets all hope its a great match to watch and nobody loses their head with red card tackles to spoil the great rugby event.
Result is of little meaning in this tie other than to serve as a benchmark of how well these sides stack up to each other. 1st or 2nd in the pool will still have to face either NZ or France in QF, both equally difficult opponents.
Love that South Africa have home grown talent and no players that are imported. Unfortunately I can't say the same for ireland or Scotland . Anyone can buy talent. Lets face it. Where will Ireland be if it was not for all the foreign players through out the years Bundee aki, gibson park, bealham, Lowe, Herring. Yes Ireland is pretty good but they are not all Irish. In the other hand , South Africa have to play against their own country men and others most of the time. So we are forced to try and innovate the game in other areas. Sometimes it works and sometimes it fails but at least we tried.
Yep. Really hard to get World-Class players to come play in SA - Get paid in Rands, Live with Loadshedding and get robbed at home 🙂 - BUT we can send our best guys to play all over the world and they Just Love to come back and play a Few Bok Tests. Interesting, huh.
It's risky. We should have at least had Willie on the bench but fingers crossed no back gets';s injured, even though KWagga can cover center and wing it's not ideal.
Very apprehensive about Saturday. Our glaring weakness is goal kicking. I've got faith in every other department of our team. I suspect with the depth of forwards in the team we'll rather be kicking most penalties that are 50/50 to the corner than the poles. Aim for rolling maul tries from the penalty line-out throw-in. I.e. aim for dicey five pointers as opposed to dicey penalty conversions. It may work beautifully ...or not. Desperately hoping for the former. (Maybe Cheslin has been kicking well at poles in training and they're keeping it quiet. Dream on Mike)
“There’s no skill” to what the boks do? What a incredibly ignorant statement. You don’t think exceptional setpieces and something like our maul is absolute technical mastery? Of course it is! So ridiculous.

This will be an easy game for Ireland 🇮🇪 I predict 45-9 to Ireland and we go on to win the world cup🎉🎉🎉we are the champions! easy
@@kylegrove2165And some Irishmen are claiming that South Africans are arrogant!😂
An end of season tour test in Ireland is NOT a World Cup game!
As a South African watching this on Saturday we will cursing everytime a back goes down injured.
Lets hope lightning truly can strike twice
I suspect the Springboks will win this one, but the field will be strewn with casualties (both sides).
maximum respect to ireland and SA partners in URC THE GREATEST SUPER RUGBY COMP
Astute observation.
Off The Ball viewing numbers peak on Springbok related videos. They should consider offering a Rand based subscription option for these viewers and listeners
Don't look at the rankings, look at the cup on the right shoulder of the jersey.
It's not there because the boks are or were ranked no 1.
You guys can blame Matt Williams for his expert opinion on TV about the Nuke Squad. This wouldn’t have happened. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a huge Ireland supporter from South Africa I would say No.
Bok fan and think this is great for rugby. Now we wait for Ireland's team selection. It's gonna be a great game. Please no cards!!!!
I'm sure nobody in the Ireland camp cares. They know that bringing on a bunch of forwards hoping to bulldoze teams is how SA always play. "Innovative", lol. Nothing has changed.
That's why we have won 3 world cups and you...
Tell me how many top teams has Ireland beat in the Quater-Finals?
Tell me how many World Cups did Ireland win?
that’s no,
Ok by 2043 Ireland will be still trying to get in to that Frist Semi-Finals😂😂😂😂
Very disturbing that my fellow Bok fans are so cocky, not going to be easy for both sides.
@@henkstols9326 They aren't fans they are just trolls, not even good ones 😂. Going to be a cracking game.
Lol ..only last 2 years..has ireland even sat at the top table ...now dishing out advice and bravado lol ...only won last time for a dodgy ref and we had no kicker ..then only won by 3 points ....
Let’s see who has the ball……..you have to have the ball.
The 7:1 split, without doubt, is designed to ramp up the ‘physical’ aspect of the game. Hopefully, organisers and spectators of the sport won't regret it and that the game will be remembered for the all right reasons
johnny this Johnny that... cant do much if he's forwards got their hands full
SA don't have a different game plan.
Matt "Scotland's Worst Coach Ever" Williams is going to burst a foefie valve ..🤣😂
We are innovative, and not scared to ring the changes. Do Ireland react? I don’t think it’s the great risk everyone is going on about. It’s a calculated risk and if we pull it off, it will be considered genius. Really looking forward to the game. Two Titans coming together! 🇿🇦
Its all on the day I'm fed up with all this nonsense its a game of rugby for gods sake
I Love how Rassie and the Boks are living rent free in everyone's heads. This is 4-D chess at its best!
nice to see some respectful comments from south African fans as opposed to the many comments across social media in the last few weeks that are both disrespectful, arrogant and just stupid tbh.
Your Irish commentator just said "there's no craft to what they're doing".... That's respectful?
@@homonaledi640that’s an opinion on a strategy. Try harder
@Daz673what allblacks are most disrespectful of all..toxic egotistical. Glad yer going home soon😂😂😂
Do people know that in the last 6 matches that Ireland have played South Africa, 5 of those matches were won by Ireland???!!!!
18 points on a very average Scots side does not make us cringe!
@@carmodyneil OK chap !
if ireland can win this game they might have one hand on the trophy since SA is the most in form team in this world cup at the moment.
South Africa are not the most inform team 🤦♂️
Come on Ireland! You can do it boys 💪💪💪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
👍🇮🇪
😂😂😂 condolences no chance
That first "ehhhhm" got me bro😂😂😂😂😂😂
"There's no real craft" rather simplistic analysis if we stretch enough to call it that.
New trend in rugby?Players must be able to play at top level in more than one position.
After Saturday the world champions will also be ranked 1 in the world. True facts.
The Irish backs could be made silent if the springboks smash the Irish forwards. Farrell has to respond and go toe to toe with SA
France thought they would do the same , but the Irish pack hit back just as hard, still got plenty of front foot ball. No team in world rugby will totally dominate the Irish pack.
@@bosstrading928the Bok pack is the best but in saying that, it can be contested
Boks had thrown down the gauntlet.... Ireland to react.
Or ignore.
They are trying to psych Ireland into changing their gameplan but Farrell is far to good a coach to fall for it!
South Africa have been releasing their team early for years now...get with it.
There is no anti venom to this slow poison at this stage of the games.Sarry guys,me deepest condolences.
“No real craft to that…? You are gonna EAT your words buddy… !
This is not a final.
Both teams are brilliant.
I just hope they don't injure each other as both still have big games ahead
❤🇿🇦
Hopefully Ireland keep the ball in the backs and wear them out.stick to our formula please
Please shu. up You Irish are a joke. Ireland won’t even get out of the pool.
@@garyoak-q7myou are correct
I have to say that the Boks putting up a 7/1 bench is a sign that they're probably not terrified of losing this match. They're chancing their arm, content to lose within 7 and take the BP. I'ts a massive gamble for them, one I don't think they'd take in knockout rugby. Which I would never suggest they're throwing the game, they are probably more relaxed about trying a few things.....
Which ironically will make them even more dangerous.
Bokkes need to disguise at least or completely not show there moves as they have made the quarters, disclosing everything to top the group could be fatal to bokke in the quarters going forward
You guys are reading too much into the early team naming...it isn't some tactic to make Ireland think - we've done it every game for the last 2 years.
These people sound so defeated already😮
Andy Farrell is no eejit and will know exactly what he has to do,as do the players. All games need a little luck and hopefully Ireland get that. Two great teams with great talent.Lets all hope its a great match to watch and nobody loses their head with red card tackles to spoil the great rugby event.
Please bring on Pratt Williams - I'd love to see his rant again.
"Hello. This is Matt Williams. I am unable to take your call right now because my head just exploded."
He is the reason why they did it again….so thank uncle Matt
He Cant reply - He's busy looking for his name which he threw away a week ago...
Result is of little meaning in this tie other than to serve as a benchmark of how well these sides stack up to each other. 1st or 2nd in the pool will still have to face either NZ or France in QF, both equally difficult opponents.
Not equal, France is much better than the AB's
I reckon all these guys have kissed the Blarney Stone.
Relax brother. There are many ways to win a rugby game. NZ won 2 world cups back to back with a weak kicker. Just prepare for a lot of blood🤣👊
Ehmmm…
Pretty much sums it up
a 7-1is a red card away from serious trouble. and given the SA discipline, it's going to be interesting
Boks trying to do a La Rochelle on Ireland. Epic battle
There’s no real craft to what they’re doing😂😂 Really??? Did we not all watch the New Zealand game at Twickenham?
“There’s no skill” to what the boks do? What a incredibly ignorant statement. You don’t think exceptional setpieces and something like our maul is absolute technical mastery? Of course it is! So ridiculous.
Ireland should just go for a 8-0 split and REALLY turn this up a notch
Ya, but would you play 8 forwards or 8 Backs? we don't really mind.... 🙂
Box office stuff I think.... What a way to create drama. Can not wait to hear the from Matt Williams. It is not in the spirit of the game. Give the man a
🍼.
South Africa have decided the way they are going to play. Tire out the Irish forwards.
The fear is real 😂😂😂
