This whole album is worth hearing. All Over The World, The Fall(you are right, it's great), Xanadu, Suddenly, I'm Alive, Magic and Suspended In Time is the first "Mashup" I ever heard.
The cartoon animation in the movie with this song was by Don Bluth who also did, all dogs go to heaven, the Secret of Nimh, The land before Time just to name a few. He was one of the Character animators for Disney when Robin Hood was made.
To all my ELO family and our adopted son mark Hector, have a fabulous Christmas to you all, ELO is all your Christmas’s rolled into one. Merry Christmas everyone,
I was 13 or 14 when I first saw the movie Xanadu. It wasn't a big hit, and my friends could not see why I was so nuts about the soundtrack. This song was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard in my life, and I wore the grooves down on the record, just lying on my floor with the box speakers tented up over my head. It is so much fun seeing you get this excited about it 40-plus years later! I just discovered you last night!
There's was 2 sides of the album, The ONJ side (as they called it) was 5 of her songs, the other side was called The ELO side (obviously) and had 5 ELO songs, one of which (the song Xanadu) Olivia guested on and sang lead vocals, one of the only times Jeff let someone else sing lead vocals on one of his ELO songs.....and that song was a UK Number one
Mark, you have allowed me to appreciate and love the music of my youth that I never allowed myself to do at the time. I wish I could have worn your V neck merch back then. Thankfully, I now also don’t give a f*ck allot and I can fall in love with these bands for the first time. Proper mad love from me!
Not every song in the Movie is ELO they wrote 6 songs the other 6 were wrote by a guy called John Farrar(?) The title track Xanadu is the only number 1 ELO ever had and ONJ was the singer on it.
Forgot to add, I played the VHS of this movie for my daughter (now 28) when she was little, and this animated section with this song was her favorite part of the whole movie. She now likes Xanadu better than Grease for ONJ movies.
I had forgotten about that one, it just really pulls you in. And I loved your list of those bands that can really make you connect with them, and I would definitely also include the Beatles, whom Jeff Lynne not only idolized but collaborated with all of them I believe in their solo careers. ELO was heavily influenced by the Beatles.
Absolutely wonderful reaction.. I remember hearing this for the first time, watching the lousy movie.. just there for the ELO songs. The Xanadu songs from ELO are just incredible.
This soundtrack to the movie Xanadu is phenomenal! ELO had the 2nd side of the album and they had ONJ sing lead on the title track which is amazing. It was a huge hit. The other two hits off this album for ELO were All over the world and I'm Alive. All are fire. The whole side is amazing. ONJ's side is really good as well. She was at her zenith of stardom at this time. The film itself is terrible. The soundtrack amazing!
Jeff doing a Roy Orbison, I guess. Yes, the way he *emotes* with his voice is just wonderful. And it's true, even a sad song just is a joy to listen to, because of Jeff's voice. As is your reaction of course. ❤
I'm right there with you.....hairs standing on end, heart pumping, I absolutely adore the sincerity in his voice when he sings every line ......ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I've just subscribed to your channel babe, I think you rock xxx
Love this! 🫶🏼 reminds me of being about 6/7 year old and my dad coming home from work doing his exercises to ELO 😂 but I equally love the lyrics, makes me feel things are worth fighting for! Don’t walk away ❤️
"Don't Walk Away" is from the score that Jeff Lynne wrote for the 1980 fantasy musical "Xanadu" which starred Olivia Newton John, Michael Beck, and musical legend Gene Kelly in his final film appearance. The score is brilliant and performed by Olivia and ELO.
2nd!!!🎉🎉🎉 Ok, Brainiacs, unite! I am a content creator who interviews creators. If you would like me to interview Mark, let him know by LIKEs or comments. How many of you are out there???
Damn....I subscribe to TH-cam reaction channels based on the song I want to hear right then. I was feeling ELO and this song in particular. ONJ is tremendous in their movie and soundtrack! Please react to the rest of the Xanadu album and movie.
Merry Christmas Hector you love ELO Bluebird is a great song I think you would love this one Hope you and the family have a great Christmas and all the best from Scotland for 2024
maybe Olivia Newton-John is on some of the tracks ...wiki or chatGPT chatGPT: In the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) song "Xanadu," which is the title track from the soundtrack of the 1980 musical film of the same name featuring Olivia Newton-John, Olivia sings on the lead vocal track. Olivia Newton-John's vocals are featured prominently throughout the song, and she shares the lead vocals with Jeff Lynne, who is the lead singer of ELO. "Xanadu" is a duet between Olivia Newton-John and Jeff Lynne, and their voices blend together to create the signature sound of the song. The track is a collaboration between ELO and Olivia Newton-John and was part of the soundtrack album for the film "Xanadu," in which Olivia Newton-John also starred alongside Gene Kelly and Michael Beck. wow Gene Kelly ... he danced but i think he also was a crooner and Michael Beck is ... the guitar-hero Beck or another Beck? nah Jeff isnt the same as Michael (sorry for people who hate long comments but some people likethat stuff) Michael Beck is an American actor best known for his role as Swan in the 1979 cult film "The Warriors." Born on February 4, 1949, in Memphis, Tennessee, Michael Beck has had a career spanning film and television. While "The Warriors" brought him recognition and remains one of his most iconic roles, Michael Beck has also appeared in other notable projects. He played the lead role of Sonny Malone in the 1980 musical film "Xanadu," which also starred Olivia Newton-John and featured music by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO). In addition to these roles, he has appeared in various television shows and films over the years. Michael Beck's career may not be as high-profile as some other actors, but his contributions to cult films like "The Warriors" have left a lasting impact on popular culture.
Xanadu the title track is brilliant with ONJ singing the lead, but Jeff also sings an acoustic version which is out of this world if you do review Xanadu maybe a double review of both versions....pretty please.
I got that album just because of E.L.O. Side A was Jeff, and the band and side B was O.N.J./ The Tubes/Cliff Richard. But I always played the A side. I'm alive, the fall, all over the world don't walk away and Xanadu (onj sings) there was one E.L.O. track that never got on the album and isn't on any hits albums or reissues, but it is in the movie. A track called Drum Dreams. It was only on the B side of I'm alive single. If you can find it listen to it. It's a drumming instramental tune.
@KD-cd2ck I always played the ELO side more than the other side, so it's my mind playing tricks seeing it as the A side. Not saying that the other side was bad. It had some good tracks, too. I still don't know why Drum Dreams wasn't on the album as it was in the movie, the bit where Gene Kelly is on roller skates with a group of people going around the track before the song xanadu starts.
May I suggest you react to the song On The Run, it's a classic ELO tune and I think it will get that cluttered head of yours bopping like mad. It's a great tune and strangely one that seems to get overlooked, only ever seen one review of it on You Tube. Another great reaction, uplifting as always. Have a very Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
Merry Christmas! So glad you discovered Xanadu! I'm hoping when you revisit the 70s you will go down the Styx rabbit hole one day. Renegade is probably the most hyper song you will ever love. Love all your ELO reactions!
Every song on the Xanadu album is fantastic. Ironically the biggest hit, Olivia Newton John’s “Magic,” is my least favorite of all. “Suspended In Time” is my second favorite ELO love song after “Discovery’s” “Midnight Blue.” It’s second because it’s ELO behind ONJ. The day ONJ passed, the song I played for her was “Xanadu.” She is so fucking beautiful singing that song, it’s heartbreaking. This song is so sweet. I love it! I had this on vinyl and wore it out. The movie is pretty weak, but worth a watch for Gene Kelly in his last movie role. The nostalgia is killing me! ONJ does a montage style song, “Dancin’” with The Tubes which is loads of fun. God love ya!
Happy Xmas to all on Brainsqueeze. Love how your mixing up the content at the moment and not sticking rigidly to the Decade (Century?) format. I love the Led Zeppelin rabbit hole you've been down, its helped me reassess their back catalogue and what a band they where. I know you sometimes like to go "off piste" sometimes so a 70s band you may consider is The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They had a huge reputation as a great live band and did a great version of Tom Jones Delilah. Try playing "Faith Healer". Its a one of their best. Especially the live version. In fact the whole live album they did was superb. I know you have a taste for live music and see that as a yardstick for a bands quality so please, please, please play something by The Who. The Who are not "Off piste" as they where a huge band but they appear to be a conspicuous omission from Brainsqueeze. Their Live album, Live at Leeds, is recognised as being one of the greatest live albums of all time. I know you love your drums mate and yes Mr Bonham was a master but The Whos drummer was also an all time great and his drumming was like nobody else's. He basically played lead drums. Their bass player also has a huge reputation as being one of the greats. Please, please, please get into The Who. The first track you should listen is The Real Me off the Quadrophenia album. The drumming and bass on that track are are outstanding right from the intro. You will not believe your ears and be rocking back on swivel chair within seconds. Seriously mate, give em a go.
"Don't walk away, you'll be the way you were before". - Jeff Lynne Xanadu the title track has Olivia and E.L.O. Half the album is E.L.O the other half is Olivia Newton-John Olivia had three hits...Magic, Suddenly and Xanadu. E.L.O. had All over the World as a big hit. Although my favorite track is I'm Alive. Been listening to this CD in my car. 😅 Xanadu is the soundtrack to the movie musical of the same name starring Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly (of Singing in the Rain fame), Michael Beck and guest stars Fee Waybill and the Tubes in the song "Dancin". 😅
Mark, ONJ only sings one track with ELO - the title song Xanadu. You’ve already reacted to a track off this album, All Over the World. The movie is crap but the ELO music is great. You can never go wrong with a ballad from Jeff Lynne, his vocals and production are always spot on and full of emotion.
Hey here's the GREATEST Christmas Song of all TIME!!! (lol or maybe it's just one some old guy likes!!!!😂) "I believe in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake, so Hector I'm guessing you might have heard this on the radio at Christmas? It sometimes sneaks in after Wizzard, Bing etc etc etc etc etc (you know the list) BUT if Greg Lake (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer fame) slipped past you, give it a crack. I wish you a hopeful Christmas, I wish you a brave New Year, all anguish, pain and sadness leave your heart and let your road be clear.
I love that movie, warts n all. It's family wholesome, trimmed of fat and some of ELO's best work IMO. Sure the acting is wooden but the whole film was just a studio manufactured job of bringing what was hot at the time and throw some big music names together. In a way it's a bookend to that big Studio musical thing of the 40s 50s and 60s, kind of in feel and pacing. ELO is perfect at purposing their sound to cinema Soundtrack. When i think of this movie i'm back in 1980 again and i'm 8.
Hola Hector muy buena reaccion. Me intereso eso que analizaste y dijiste que parte de esta cancion de ELO, notaste algo de Floyd, Zeppelin y Credence. Interesante. Si quieres seguir con ese album de ELO y ONJohn (Rip) "Xanadu" puedes seguir con *I am Alive* #16 in US ,1980
You will love ONJ 💘💎 ! You look great in the new merch Wow what a great t- shirt !! Sending lots of love & Christmas good wishes to Hector , family and all your crazy Brain Squeeze followers. You make my day with your reactions, Thankyou a million times or more ☮️🇨🇦. No One Does A Love Song Like ELO/Jeff Lynne This is a Favorite Love Song of Mine. Hector You've Gotta Watch th Movie of XANADU. If You haven't Fallen in Love With Olivia Newton John by the End ? You're Quite Likely Gay !
If you already know Xanadu the song (ELO + ONJ) you should listen to Jeff's remake which is rockier and he sings lead! Same song, different vibe, still great.
Check out " FIRE ON HIGH " Hector. It will be an assault on your senses, I promise my friend 😊 I hope you and your's have a safe and Merry Ho Ho 🎅 and a healthy and Happy Ha Ha 🍾🥂🍻🎉🎊 Cheers brother ✌️
Jeff Lynne wrote all the songs on the ELO side of the album, I have the movie on dvd, the movie is a bit pants, poorly directed, poor storyline but, the music is great
The Fall is great...Jeff Lynne has stated publicly that it's one of his personal favourite. I'm Alive is great but Jeff Lynne's home demo is on the web somewhere and is arguably even better!
My older sister watched this movie and Grease a lot when I was a kid. It was ok though. I really like both of them 🤩 I mean sheeat, you got Frankie Valli doing the theme song for Grease plus Olivia Newton John and John Travolta doing other songs on the same movie. And ELO and Olivia Newton John on the Xanadu soundtrack. That alone makes both of them great!
Hey Hector have a great Xmas & New Year, love ya channel mate keep up the good work, always look forward to my daily dose of Fuckery & Music 👍🏻👌Monty fom down under🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Gotta try “the fall” off the same album, absolutely wonderful track.
This whole album is worth hearing. All Over The World, The Fall(you are right, it's great), Xanadu, Suddenly, I'm Alive, Magic and Suspended In Time is the first "Mashup" I ever heard.
"I'M ALIVE" is my absolute favorite ELO song of all time! You gotta hear it!
The Fall. You must do The Fall next, Mark!
The cartoon animation in the movie with this song was by Don Bluth who also did, all dogs go to heaven, the Secret of Nimh, The land before Time just to name a few. He was one of the Character animators for Disney when Robin Hood was made.
I love Jeff's vocal on this song. As absurd of a movie Xanadu was, the sound track was incredible.
To all my ELO family and our adopted son mark Hector, have a fabulous Christmas to you all, ELO is all your Christmas’s rolled into one. Merry Christmas everyone,
All the ELO songs on Xanadu are awesome! Please react to all of them!
Once you hear elo you could never walk away brilliant ❤

Great stuff 50 years of growing up with elo glad to see its still growing strong brilliant reactions well done!
Every thing ELO dose is just pure gold.,.. they are a rare breed of groups that have never made a bad song....
Jeff Lynne has a great voice to sing the songs he writes.
This plus "Electric Dreams" for the ELO fix bro! Dead set Gold!
'Danger Ahead' is an ELO song I think you will enjoy. Thanks for playing 'Don't Walk Away'. One of my ELO favorites!
One of my favorite Jeff Lynne vocals.....just beautiful 🎶

Awesome my friend....Love this song.... We could talk about not having the breast for it!!!🤣 Thanks for my smile my friend.. Love ya man!!❤
Jeff Lynne wrote all the songs on the ELO side of the album, I have the movie on dvd, the movie is a bit pants, poorly directed, poor storyline but, the music is great
WATCH THE WHOLE MOVIE XANADU!!!!!
F1rst!!!🎉🎉🎉
This is the least good of the ELO tracks from this movie sound track..
