    The bumper is a 924 Careers GTS fiberglass copy from American International Racing. The bumper rubbers are NOS actual Careers GT/GTS and the driving lights and trim are from a Porsche recycling yard in the UK.

    Looks and sounds a hell of a lot better than any 944 i’ve seen ! did a very nice job getting everything in there ,i primarily play with British Sports Cars on the make and Models that came with Catalytic Convrters they made it easy to “Gut the parts and still look Stock on the outside it’s funny My Wife took one of my cars to the State Inspection and the Inspector looked under the car with his Mirror to reveal that she was going to fail because of no Converter she Explained to the State Employee it was under the Hood next to the motor and he gave her a hard time saying no they aren’t so she popped the hood and showed him the Car passed ! i had it so leaned out it barely ran but it got a Passed Certificate ! of Course she knew it was there for looks , it’s funny because the guy in the Garage gave her a hard time because of her Sex and she picked up on that part he also insisted on closing the Hood and it didn’t properly get latched so as soon as my Wife left the Yard theHood got lifted and smashed into the Windsheild MVA paid for a new one and their Lawyers were very nervous about us going after them in Court i did not we had them fix the Glass and the other Damages

    I can put something together. But to answer your question, I used a Few transaxle from a 1980 924 turbo. This is the transaxle that was used in the real Carrere GT and GTS. But I swapped the ring and opinion for a euro version which I 4.125:1.

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The front bumper came from American International Racing , I would need to look for the info on the place where I bought the bumper pads, the placer was in the UK and sells lots of NOS Porsche parts. The lights and light trim came from a salvage yard in the UK. The lights are just European driving lights and small rubber filler is from early European 924's--these are the same parts used on the GT and GTS. The rear flares came from GT Racing and needed lots of work to make them fit.

    • @VFuzz
      @VFuzz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I saw that GT Racing also had a carrera gts bumper. I think I've also seen people run just the fog lights in place of those, but im not sure if thats possible. Great job on those quarter panels by the way you must have had to flatten them to 924 look first, and then add the fender flares. I cant even imagine how much work that must have been, but well worth the effort because they look damn good! keep it up!

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I didn't use a kit. I designed and built everything myself. The motor mounts, bellhousing adapter, pilot bearing adapter, radiator mounts. I adapted a BMW hydroboost power brake unit to fit and plumbed up everything.
      I still need to finish the A/C though.
      I don't see an advantage with either motor. I just like old school v8's. The fireing order is different so they sound different. I like the small block sound over the LS. Everyone tells me that the LS makes more power. The car is already a monster with 500 HP. It only weighs 2800 pounds. The gear ratios are good for my set up. It just bites down and goes. I don't have everyone wanting to race either. I think they don't know what to make of it and it sounds nasty. The very first time I drove it to work a guy in a 70 Big Block Chevelle SS pulled up next to me and when the light turned green he just sat there.

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not buy a kit. I designed and made what I needed. I have a tranxaxle from a 1980 924 turbo with a European transaxle, G31. I made an adapter plate for the torque rube to the Chevy bellhousing, a pilot bearing adapter, motor mounts. I used a Milodon V8 Vega oil pan. I needed to make 1/4" spacers for the crossmember. I made a plate that goes between the torque tube and the Chevy bellhousing. I used a Dodge clutch disc in the Chevy clutch. Dodge has a 1" x 27 spling for many muscle cars in the 60s and 70's. It's not too difficult to make if you have a drill press and you know someone with a lathe.

    Great build I have an 86 944 with a sbc and its an automatic and Ive broke the rear flywheel twice so I plan on installing a 5 speed out of my parts car in future .I have a few videos of it on here . I like yours its a well thought out build . Did you use a Renagade Hybrids kit or a 944 Hybrids Kit . I ordered stuff from 944 Hybrids and made my own engine mounts as well as the left side exsaust header but used the 944 hybrids torque tube adapter and a grffin radiator and I used linear actuaters for headlights . My motor is mild with a small crane cam . Hi I had a question about your transmission? I'm buying a 944 with a SBC but the owner still has the factory 944 N/A transmission? For the transmission you are using is the spindle more tougher than the 944's factory spindle? Was it custom made or is the g31 spindle capable to handle your 302? The one I am buying has a 350?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not clear on what you mean by spindle. If you are talking about the stub shaft-- what connects the CV shaft to the rear hub they are the same on the N/A. Also the same as late air cooled Beetle.
      The N/A transaxle will not hold up long with a V8. For your car one from a 944 Turbo is best. The ratios age good as well.

    I would love to pick up a big block and drop it in a 9:44. How difficult of a swap is this?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. The big block is a little wider and taller. I'm not certain if it is longer. Space is an issue. You would have to cut the hood for clearance and there isn't much extra space on the sides. The strut towers woild be the limiting area.
      The big block is also heavier so you would need heaver springs. There are many available.
      It is likely compareable to putting a big block in a Vega over a small block.
      On mine, I took quite a bit of weight off of the front of the car by eliminating the pop up lights and using a fiberglass GTS bumper. Also, using aluminun head, intake manifold, headeds, mini starter reduced the weight of the motor. So now the front of my car is slightly lighter than stock.
      You may be able to do it but it think it could need work around the strut towers at minimum.

    Does the air filter clear the hood?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I does not. I originally had FAST EZ EFI on it with a modified LT1 FI intake and that fit under the hood. However after FAST talked me into the system I found out it cannot tune it there is less than 10" of vacuum at idle. With the cam I have it get 5" at idle. So I took off the EFI and put the carb on it so I could run the car. I don't want to cut the hood because it had a Carrera GTS scoop on it and I want to eventually put FI back on. I haven't found a hood to modify locally so I don't have a hood on it. I am building a detached garage now so I haven't done anything with the car for some time. When the garage is finished, I will decide if I will go with a less aggressive cam or go to a different FI that is fully programmable.
