Chevy 302 Powered Porsche 944

Had a problem with my carb. First the accelerator pump diaphragms started leaking then it would not idle. The alcohol in the gas deteriorated parts inside. I ended up replacing the accelerator pump diaphragms and the needle and seats with ones made for alcohol. Also new float bowl and metering block gaskets. Now it runs again.

Run with open headers and Holley carb

While I am working on hydraulic T/O bearing problems I started it to hear how it sounds with open headers. I also found out from this how restrictive my exhaust is. The revs were between 6500 and 7000 rpm's. It revs instantly without the exhaust on it. Maybe mt cats got clogged when I had the FI on it it was running very rich then. When I removed the factory resonators it had a drone. But it made a noticable difference in performance. I never got to try aftermarket resonators because i got t-boned and it destroyed the car. I have a 2014 SRT 392 super bee now and the sound is perfect. If you want a slight muscle car sound without drone I would suggest this system if it isn't too pricy. All of the other aftermarket systems are too loud for eveey day.

I like yours its a well thought out build . Did you use a Renagade Hybrids kit or a 944 Hybrids Kit . I ordered stuff from 944 Hybrids and made my own engine mounts as well as the left side exsaust header but used the 944 hybrids torque tube adapter and a grffin radiator and I used linear actuaters for headlights . Hi I had a question about your transmission? I'm buying a 944 with a SBC but the owner still has the factory 944 N/A transmission? For the transmission you are using is the spindle more tougher than the 944's factory spindle? Was it custom made or is the g31 spindle capable to handle your 302? The one I am buying has a 350?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not clear on what you mean by spindle. If you are talking about the stub shaft-- what connects the CV shaft to the rear hub they are the same on the N/A. Also the same as late air cooled Beetle. The N/A transaxle will not hold up long with a V8. For your car one from a 944 Turbo is best. The ratios age good as well.

    I would love to pick up a big block and drop it in a 9:44. How difficult of a swap is this?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. The big block is a little wider and taller. I'm not certain if it is longer. Space is an issue. You would have to cut the hood for clearance and there isn't much extra space on the sides. The strut towers woild be the limiting area. The big block is also heavier so you would need heaver springs. There are many available. It is likely compareable to putting a big block in a Vega over a small block. On mine, I took quite a bit of weight off of the front of the car by eliminating the pop up lights and using a fiberglass GTS bumper. Also, using aluminun head, intake manifold, headeds, mini starter reduced the weight of the motor. So now the front of my car is slightly lighter than stock. You may be able to do it but it think it could need work around the strut towers at minimum.

    Does the air filter clear the hood?

    • @petetjjj
      @petetjjj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I does not. I originally had FAST EZ EFI on it with a modified LT1 FI intake and that fit under the hood. However after FAST talked me into the system I found out it cannot tune it there is less than 10" of vacuum at idle. With the cam I have it get 5" at idle. So I took off the EFI and put the carb on it so I could run the car. I don't want to cut the hood because it had a Carrera GTS scoop on it and I want to eventually put FI back on. I haven't found a hood to modify locally so I don't have a hood on it. I am building a detached garage now so I haven't done anything with the car for some time. When the garage is finished, I will decide if I will go with a less aggressive cam or go to a different FI that is fully programmable.

    The bumper is a 924 Careers GTS fiberglass copy from American International Racing. The bumper rubbers are NOS actual Careers GT/GTS and the driving lights and trim are from a Porsche recycling yard in the UK.
