  • Welcome back to VoroMotors as always. For this week's video AJ is looking at electric scooter tires and analyzing what makes each one of them the best. Here at Voro Motors, we have solid tires, tubed tires, and tubeless tires. these tires go on everything here the Move Cruiser, Touring, Fiido, and Mantis. so we've got plenty of styles of tires to talk about and plenty of experience to consider.

    I went with solid tires and I'm glad I did. I'm someone who's using it as a means of saving money. I don't have a car anymore so I use this to get to work everyday. Reliability is my main concern. Sure it's a little bumpy but it's not something that bothers me all that much if at all. I'm not riding an electric scooter because I find the scooters trendy and I'm not some kind of scooter enthusiast. If you're a dude in a situation similar to me then I advise you to go with solid tires, it saves you the hassle of dealing with flats. Your feet will live! We humans aren't as fragile and soft as some of these videos make it seem. In simpler words, and perhaps offensive to some of y'all, if you're not too soft to ride then you'll do alright with solid tires. I just thought I should put it that way because it MUST be said. The amount of TH-camrs who talk about solid tires in a negative manner make it sound like they got feet as fragile as tooth picks and so it made me kind of hesitant to pull the trigger and make the purchase but I can assure you that solid tires are not as bad as some people on the internet make them seem.

    Apollo scooters have split rims which makes replacing way easier. I don't understand why ever company doesn't do this. Tubeless tires will always be harder and riskier to replace. Owners want to feel confident in their ability to take care of their scooters for the long haul. It's one thing to see a demo online, it's another to own a scooter for years with mileage and maintenance

    As a biker I’m aware of a plug system for use on tubeless tyres in the event of a puncture. This avoids the emergency use of slime and therefore the potential associated damage incurred.

    A reviewer should always mentioned if a scooter have splitt-able tyre-rims, or not. The Zero 8/9/10 models have it, for example. It's still gonna be a hassle to change tubes/tyres for customers without skills and tools - but at least it's gonna be a much smaller hassle. And bicycle-stores with workshops are more likely to help you out. Especially if you already have the spare-tube with you.

    I have two Emove tourings and yes flats are a problem got a flat 2nd day we got our scooters to the point now 3 weeks in and now have to get a new tire and tube , so for me I love to be able to get a solid front tire for touring just to avoid flats all together even if there is compromise from the smoothness of the ride and some sliding

      @@VoroMotors I would love to see a pneumatic air tire option for the REAR wheel on the Touring!! Give customers this option at check out, please. I understand flats are no fun but I would prefer the increased comfort and grip since tire maintenance, even repairing flats, is pretty darn easy! I would pay extra if you made this available aftermarket!! Comfort is HUGE for me and the solid tire transmits too much vibration and not enough traction. I'm also not commuting to work, so my situation will allow me to deal with a flat with less inconvenience than some. To my eye, I believe the only thing required would be a small hole opening made on the outer edge of the rear wheel, so the valve stem (air filler) can exit (not sure if that's possible since the motor is close by). The front vs rear tire and rim size / mounting methods appear to be identical besides the valve stem hole but I could be wrong and the rear motor may well take up too much space to allow for that hole to be added, even from the factory. Now the opposite idea, swapping the front for a solid tire, is likely a simpler process. All these ideas are assuming the mounting method is equivalent for solid and tubed tires (pretty sure it is. Split-rim on both, right?). Just my two cents, and I don't even like pennies!

      @klg1001 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You answered your own question my man. Do you plan to ride more often on or off road?
      The street tires will feel much more planted to the pavement but obviously will have less contact with the ground on gravel or small rocks. I have run the off road tires on pavement and they are noisy, noticeably less stable feeling and will wear out quickly. I have a set of both but run street tires 90% or the time for city commuting and only swap to the off road tires for a specific off road adventure that I plan in advance.

    I installed a solid tire on my rear wheel for my emove cruiser now it sounds like I have a flat every time I ride I know it’s not the motor because when I lift it up and press the throttle it works fine and I hear no noise from it after a while the motor sounds sluggish. I don’t know if I should switch back to air tires but I can’t find them in stock. I don’t know the weight limit on that tire because I can’t find that information it’s it even on the sidewall.

    I have the Emove Cruiser and the tubeless pneumatic tires create a sweet ride in the city. The cruiser is amazing. Especially for the price point. That being said, the thought of changing a tire is a buzzkill. I wish there was a dealer in Seattle. Than I could just use Uber to limp back into port after any issues.

      @@Joe_Friday AJ has made a video of the process. Prying the tire off with tire spoons wrenches and leverage was hard to picture in my apartment. My second line of defense was to just buy a whole new wheel - but they are currently sold out. All that being said I haven't had any problems with the tires. Pot holes, rough roads and mysterious glass objects in the path and the cruiser never skipped a beat. Goes smoothly through the city.

      take a clamp clamp down the tire in three locations, then use a zip tie and or heavy nylon twine and tie is squished, it will then put the tire in the center groove of the rim and allow you to pull over the tire ! took me three days of messing with it to come up with this solution, took me less than 5 min to put the tire on once I did this, three spoon tire tools used

    Can I change the front tyre of the Touring for a solid one as well? I am really glad that the Touring has a solid tyre at the back, and good suspension. I am looking exactly for a comfortable zero maintenance scooter and if I can also put a solid in the front and just know that I will never have to deal with flats, that would be great. Can it be done?

    • @Jabowers918
      @Jabowers918 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the opposite question, if the rear solid tire could be swapped for pneumatic air/tube tire for increased comfort. I've decided this won't be possible since the valve stem (air filler stem) needs an exit hole from the interior to exterior of the wheel, like it has on the front. The front wheel has an exit hole, the rear wheel / motor does NOT seem to have this hole (although I will know for sure next week when it arrives) since it was designed for solid tire. Now for your situation, the solid wheel seems to be identical in size and the mounting procedure (split-wheel) should work fine to mount a solid tire on the front wheel. BUT - you would then have that open hole in the wheel (where the valve stem used to exit) that needs to be plugged with a rubber plug / waterproofed. Otherwise water and dirt could get stuck inside. I have not attempted either alteration but to my eye, I think it would work to put a solid tire in the front and seal that hole. Then, never get a flat! But your comfort level, traction, and handling will change to some degree - probably a tad worse. Certainly more vibration will come thru, which is why I would be interested in the rear tire swap to air filled but I'm not interested in drilling any valve stem holes in the rear wheel where the motor lives... even if it MIGHT be possible (since the hole would be on the outermost edge, potentially being clear of the motor)!! Either way, you would need to fully waterproof any changes made and it could easily VOID the WARRANTY.

    Owning and maintaining an electric scooter shop for the past 3 years- Solid tires are great if you are going under 15 mph and they don't heat up. HORRIBLE and will melt or roll off the rim if on a faster scooter or a heavier rider,,, NOT recommended at all for high performance or long ride duration scooters. I have found that a front tire is a good solution for a solid tire if not a drive motor-

    For “tubed” tire I always use tire liners such as Tuffys. Kinda tricky to install but after installation you can be confident your chance of flats will be greatly reduced compared to slime or more expensive tires; plus they can be reused once the old tires are worn out.
    For tubeless tires, use Stans or Orange Seal and add glitters for extra sealing power( no kidding); always bring tire plugs just in case you hit a nail or screws on the road.

    The solid tire does go bald very fast, my emove touring will wear one smooth in about 300 or so miles , while it will still work and roll down the road it will not have traction, especially on a wet or damp road.

    • @explainedunexplained6819
      @explainedunexplained6819 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends some motors have brackets or clamps that are made to be aired up after its put on. I found it nearly impossible to get a solid tire on. And even if same size its impossible to bolt it back together with the bolts because its too big. Solid tire 10 x2.5 and normal tube was 10 x 2.5. Its basically really hard and some don't seem made for solid

    Yes you can use slime on a tubeless tyre. You won't have to replace the motor as the slime will not enter the motor from inside of the tyre as its a sealed unit. Also slime can be removed easily when dried, just peel it off add a new tyre and refill fresh slime. If you don't believe me then think about this why do they sell slime for car tyres which are tubeless also why do cyclist who go tubless on their push bikes add slime before pumping up the tyres. Its simply will add more protection to your tubeless tyre. Have a look at slime in mtb tubeless tyres on here to see the guy ride over nails yet the tyres are still holding air as the slime blocks the holes.

    Tubeless are like car tires. Can they be patched as well?

    • @VoroMotors
      @VoroMotors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael!
      Tubeless tires can definitely be patched if needed, though we always say that if you do have a puncture in your tire serious enough, eventually it will need to be replaced.
      However, we often recommend using tire sealant both as a preventative measure as well as a good temporary fix. We have one we use that we find works best for our scooters and is superior to other tire sealants on the market. You can find it on our website here: www.voromotors.com/products/doctor-orange-tire-sealant
      Hope this answers your question!

      @@VoroMotors Thank you. The scooter I'm looking at has a tube in it. Can I replace it with tubeless tires? Also, I see yall sell many accessories; what can all be changed on a scooter? Instead of a thumb throttle, could I replace it with a trigger. Also, im taller could I replace the pole or use an extender? This is my first scooter and will be my primary transportation until I'm done with school. I want to make it comfortable.

    • @VoroMotors
      @VoroMotors  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael,
      Typically, we do not recommend replacing tubed tires with tubeless ones, or making other changes that the scooter is not designed for. If you have a Cruiser, yes! You can switch between a twist throttle, thumb throttle, or trigger throttle. However, we can't speak to other models of scooter if you did not purchase with us.
      Feel free to reach out to our team at support@voromotors.com if you have any further questions. We're always happy to help!

      Hi William,
      You're right! You can do that as well for a tubeless tire.
      In fact, as of late, all new tubeless tires for the Cruiser we sell come with self-sealing gel pre-applied: www.voromotors.com/collections/electric-scooter-parts-and-accessories/products/tubeless-tire-emove-cruiser

    What's the best electric scooter tire? Tubeless, tubed and solid tire?

    • @explainedunexplained6819
      @explainedunexplained6819 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where you are riding. Flat paved road with little debris solid is fine. But if you want a smoother ride get a tube. Also solid tires weight you down and its heavier for the motor to spin. Definitely won't go as fast or as far as air filled. But it depends on how you ride. Slowly and always looking out for glass? I tried that and got 3 flats in 4 days. Turns out the motor mount was cracked and slitting my tube. Factory defects happen. When you change a flat tho make sure to find if the tire is still compromised

    I had a flat in the front after owning my cruiser for only 9 days. Had the Armor Dilloz red and tried to plug it.
    Unfortunately, it did not work the quick patch. I had to get the tire changed. Ordered new tire from Voromotors and get to an authorized repair ( NYC ELECTRIC SCOOTER) changed. Nobody else would touch it and to be honest I don’t want someone to damage the wheel hub. Wish there is a solid tire that also provides a comfortable ride. Changing the tires is a pain in the butt and costly.

      The repair shop charges $75/hr for labor and estimates it'll take about 30 minutes. The tire itself is going to be $55 either way. The price ($55 DIY vs ~$95 in the shop). New York City shops!

      Sorry to hear you had to do the walk of shame! Solid tires are the most durable, but aren't the most comfortable for long rides -- which is why the majority of our scooters have pneumatic/air-filled tires. Keeping the tires properly inflated can prevent flats and keep your range optimal, but catching a nail sometimes can't be avoided. Best of luck and happy riding!

    The best tyre is 1 that’s air filled 10inch or above and lasts more then 200 fucking miles like mine did not. Daddy has a flat tyre and I’m pissed. I managed to find a tyre but I’m actually going to buy green slime first to use on flat tyre. From my research, it seems to work for people to repair a flat if it’s a small hole and not a tear and not on side of the tyre. I’m not sure where my puncher is but wish me luck. I’ve been popping out on my shitty death trap of a scooter with 8inch splice tyres and no suspension. Rattles like crazy, feels like it’s about to fall apart at any given moment and I just feel like an absolute cu@t riding it. The hard tyres sound like a car screaming along on the metal rim and people will sometimes turn around and jump out of the way in fear. I guess they imagine a banged up car that’s just crashed, is racing towards them with a drunk person inside and is about to kill them 😭. My death trap scooter is even a fucking clone. I swear I’d love to slap the shit out of the crappy Amazon seller that sold it to me. Bastards!
