- WOW did I love this episode of Skeleton Crew! It ticked nearly every box I could have wanted for a series like this, and threw in some Indiana Jones style fun just because it could!

When 33 steps off the ramp had me in tears from laughter
He's literally my favourite character 😂

This show actually just keeps getting better every week.
I literally forgot it was coming out until my girlfriend told me, but then it immediately blew me away. I did not expect to love this show as much as I do.
Yessir
I have been watching and the show actually is good. I keep waiting for the bait and switch. But it actually is making me care for Star Wars again.
Just a little added note: (4:43) The Bounty Hunter, Pokkit, is played by Kelly Macdonald, who is famous for voicing the character Merida in the Pixar/Disney film "Brave" (2012). She also starred in "Boardwalk Empire", "No Country for Old Men", "Gosford Park", and appeared "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows: Part 2" as the ghost of Helena Ravenclaw.
Thank you for this! I knew she looked familiar but I missed her in the credits. Much appreciated!
I hope we so see more of Pokkit because Kelly Macdonald is such a fabulous actor.
Don't forget Trainspotting.
@hammerman199374 oh snap I thought I recognized her.
Thanks for pointing this out! She’s incredible in No Country

Well played, comrade.
The VFX were outstanding. They’ve been great for this show but this episode was a standout for me.
All the ship shots look sooo awesome.
They knew how to use there budget in this show for sure.
It feels like Jod has a sociopathic misunderstanding of whatever Jedi teachings he received. His interpretation of “forgoing attachments” is used to justify betraying other people constantly. Also like a sociopath, he seems to understand compassion but also treats that as another tool for manipulation.
I don't think he is a jedi. Either survived order 66 as a kid and became a pirate growing up or is just a force sensitive without faith in either doctrine.
That's...a pretty interesting concept actually.
@@mirrorslash028 I agree he was never a Jedi. I do think he can use the Force to a limited extent, so it’s possible he received some training. One heartbreaking possibility is that he is younger than the Purge, and he was like Wimm as a kid - excited about Jedi and trying to learn about them and using the Force on his own. But he ended up very cynical and disillusioned.
i think he was a youngling in the jedi order however, ima wait and see since episode 6 is just gonna release in a few hours and the episode might reveal if he was apart of the jedi order or not
Like a dragon in fantasy, or a CEO in reality
just a casual based Alex moment lmao
Cringe
@@jaysondzikowski2924simping for ceos is cringe
This episode was a perfect call back to The Goonies. The kids searching for treasure and finding the lair with various pirate booby traps. The “adult resort” here is a placement for when the kids are under the Astoria Country Club and banging on pipes in the Goonies.
Favorite episode of the series so far!
It was SO Goonies! Loved it.
Ah, that's the inspiration. I see it now...
I love that SM 33 mentions playing shanties in the Spa. I just need for one Star Wars sea shanty to happen in this show and I’ll fully be in.
i am in love with this scottish umbaran bounty hunter
That was Kelly MacDonald.
played by Kelly Macdonald 🥰
@@CantankerousDave She was also in Trainspotting with Ewan McGregor.
I don't think she's Umbaran. Don't Umbaran's wear special suits for a reason that was mentioned in Clone Wars?
@@eeveeofalltrades4780 Palpatine's Umbaran aide and the Umbaran senator didn't wear suits.
The suits were there help them fight better filled with gaseous drug enhancement. Think of it like giving Nazi Germans meth during WW2.
Jod's betrayal was enviable, but still shocked me for how ruthless it was.
I expected him to eventually betray the kids because the story wasn't shy about spelling it out for us from the get go, but never in a million years did I expect him to just straight up threaten them at knife point.😢
Also loved how SM-33 was constantly complaining about the fact that they turned his pirate lair into a luxury spa.😂
I cracked up those 2 times 33 got offended and tried to grab that dude 😂
Enviable, or inevitable?
Judes acting was on point when choosing between reward vs ransom.
I knew Jod would betray them. I mena, it's been said constantly from the beginning not to trust him. I do not think though that he would have actually cut Fern's throat. He didn't want to take it that far, and was hoping she would just yield. There is a soft-spot in there somewhere.
White guy in a Disney series and you were surprised..? Where have you been the last decade..?
I like the idea that Jod was a Padawan but not an Order 66 survivor. Jedi can leave the Order whenever they want so it would be interesting to see one who left for purely selfish purposes after learning some abilities. Jod could've just wanted to use the Force for his own gain and left before the Empire even established itself.
it is a very very scary image to have a sinister character earn a lightsaber. even without training a force wielding pirate with a blue blade is an unstoppable force to most people, especially kids. brings to mind the leader of the nihl with his yellow blade even without force attunement, a normal villain having a saber brings their threat level way up. its also just like Ren, the original leader of the knights of Ren, or moff gideon wielding the darksaber. fun stuff
Jod does not have the force. I believe he has something up his right sleeve or hand. Every single scene he has “using the force” is ONLY with his right hand. I believe it will be a bait and switch for the upcoming episodes
I think this is right. Jod is a dark mirror for Wim. He was as enthralled by the story of Rennod as Wim is by stories of the Jedi. To Wim the Jedi represent adventure and escape from the oppression on At Attin. For Jod pirates represented adventure and escape from the oppressive Jedi training.
I'm with you on this one. I'm thinking he was partially trained, but that it would be tiresome if he survived the purge. What if he got kicked out for being bratty?
I like how despite seemingly to grow fond of the kids SM33 still honours the pirate code and actually lets Jod challenge Fern for the role of captain. Despite this he like Jod is reluctant to actually hurt Fern or the kids and continuously tells the to yield.
It's more of a guideline I hope
More than honoring the pirate code it's likely just programming. He was likely programmed with the pirate code when he was first built, so he can't really go against it. And he seems to be an older droid, likely from back when droids were more restricted in their programming.
6:19 I just assumed he was being rubbed against the Hutt, like a pumice stone or something.
I think Jod is a youngling who didn’t make it to padawan.
Also happy christmas guys
Or survived Order 66 as a padawan. Was taken to 'safety' by pirates (possibly by Hondo!) and thats all he knew
or a former Sith apprentice
@@al28854 that would be good too, but he seems to lenient on the kids for that
I think he wanted to put them in prison and then ransom them back to their parents. Technically, he’d still have lived up to his deal and brought them home. And guarantee his reward and that they can’t betray him at the end.
So now he’ll have to save them
Pure luck Wim didn't put the saber through his belly!
Remember Luke in A New Hope holding the lightsaber to his eye?
SO close to cutting off his big toe!
That Hutt didn't eat him.. he used him as a body scrub.. which is why we didn't see it.. thankfully.
I think SM-33 was the mutineer on the Onyx Cinder, and was under orders by Rennod to do so - and yeah, I think he's still alive on At Attin.
The comedy was peak SM-33 especially but the kids in the hotel room was also fantastic.
Pretty much everything about this episode just WORKED for me, and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. Cannot wait for next week.
Merry Christmas to you, Mollie and family!
Its nice to see eventhough the kids are on this adventure the reality of the galaxy becomes clear to them and emotions start coming out which is womderful acting and hits the feels hard.
Merry christmas all may the force be with u.
That little guy wasn't being eaten by the Hutt, he was being used as a pumice stone.
I thought it was an Hommage to "spirited away" i thought it happens there too
I think the supervisor could have been the pirate and of the same species as Neel, hence hiding their face. And we didn't see any of Neel's species on the other planet. If it all happened many moons ago then the supervisor is prolly long dead and the robots are continuing to run the show as programmed.
My 5 cents anyway :)
You could be onto something. In Rennod's treasure room in Lanupa, there's a gold statue that looks like whatever species Neel is.
@@99jarjarbinks And the mural in the residence has humans shaking hands with someone of Neels species too I think, yes?
@@gregarmstrong1937 I believe so. Good catch! 👍👍
This episode is without a doubt the best thus far. This show is just so good at the setups and payoffs, the little easter eggs to other things in Star Wars without being overbearing, the comedy, the peril, the balance of it all was just perfect in this episode.
I am kind of curious what the parents are actually going to be able to do however because I have to imagine that KB has a photographic memory when using her visor. She may be able to easily recall the coordinates to At Attin, they now just need the means to get there, so what are the parents really going to do that assists the kids? I think at this point, they have to oust the Supervisor for who they are because it would be a bit redundant to have the parents go through all this trouble just for the kids to come back on their own.
This episode was AMAZING, please more of this
I really like that Fern's Mom did to the Security the exact same thing Fern does with her nurse droid, wiped its memory to cover up a sticky situation. I also like that the parents tried to execute a little, and not at all thought out conspiracy to get a message out.
Also, does anyone know if Pokkit was played by Saorce Ronin? My sister said she sounded similar but I couldn't find any iMDB info on the episode while I was watching it.
Pokkit is played by Kelly MacDonald. She's known for such films as Trainspotting, No Country For Old Men, and Brave where she voiced the main character Merida.
Its a little to easy to wipe a droids memory or reprogram them which makes them less threatening
The CEO line had me
The show feels so episodic like every episode is a quest in itself. But it all connects through the overarching story. Plus the humor is so nuanced and perfectly balanced!
I’m absolutely loving it!!
Seems like anything written by Favreau and Filoni comes out of a table top RPG adventure. They got have a fun routine game night going.
Very curious exactly how long ago the Onyx Cinder crashed on At Atin!
Oh hey, Alex is in his red Star Wars Christmas jammies just like I am!
patrick seitz voicing the creature in the cave (i forgot the name sorry) was weirdly a highlight, he's got a great deep booming voice
That's my man, Dogi.
Chtallops. I believe that's how it's spelled.
Tak Rennod is clearly a Neel species. We haven't seen any aside from his family and you can see flashes of trunk in the captains of holo
And there's a gold statue in Rennod's treasure room that looks like the same species as Neel.
The headless statue in ep4 -‘King No Head.’ likely was as well. A member of the species could have been the original architect of the Jewel Worlds.
@@joechip1971 Ooo. Interesting 🤔
He might be an ortolaun
@@AidanGlenane Max Rebo's species. 😊
However if Rennod is of the same species as Neel, as theorized, then he wouldn't be ortolan. Maybe a cousin species? 🤔
Kanan's "Kid, I'm about to let everyone in on the secret..." is one of the most epic moments in all of Star Wars. Would be great to see Jod have something similar.
The rad bounty hunter was played by Scottish actor Kelly MacDonald (Trainspotting, No Country for Old Men, and the Merida character from Pixar's Brave)- I'd recognize that gorgeous accent anywhere! And is Cthallops a nod to H.P. Lovecraft's Cthulu?
4:41 She is also the voice actress of the main character in Disney's Brave.
There’s a couple frames where you can at least tell that Rennod is a Weequay
Rennod is “Donner” spelled backwards! A nod to Richard Donner, who directed The Goonies!
For a while now, I kept asking myself, “Why is Jude Law just not talking about the whole Jedi thing whenever he’s asked about it?” He always dodges the questions or gives extremely vague answers. Well… now we know why.😅
Did that creature say “not again” before being eaten? That seems like a nod to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (the bowl of petunias).
That Qui Gon Jinn quote in the episode puts a smile in my face, and it is beautiful.
Thankfully, it wasn't a sappy change of heart trope. It actually has stakes, unbalanced as they may be
A former Padawan? Possibly, but also remember that the Inquisitors were also former Jedi who went over to the Dark Side. Jod’s lust for money plays right into that vibe.
My take is that he might just be a former Inquisitor that had nowhere to go after Palpatine and Vader died, except perhaps into pirating.
The other thing that was interesting, at least to me, was the "cube farm" where Wendle worked. It reminded me a bit of the Bureau of Standards where Syril worked.
This show really is just a fantastic way to spend the holidays and this episode was the perfect thing to get on Christmas Eve! It's definitely my favourite as well and I'm just impressed at how this show keeps surprising me. I hope Cthallops comes back somehow because that was a peak character reveal and moment😂
Definitely had National Treasure vibes in that treasure room.
Anyone else pick up on Jods advice being the same as Jedi when it comes to dropping attachments?
This video being 11:38 long made my star wars brain very happy! Good episode, it got while also being a kid based adventure movie. I'm here for it.
Didn't see the face of the statue the previous episode and now we don't see the face of the Captian. Hmmm 🤔
Also that definitely looks like it could be a old republic or high republic lightsaber as I was reminded to much of the customization options from Fallen Order and Survivor
“Like a dragon in fantasy .. or a CEO in reality” ❤❤❤ we love class solidarity over here
Kelly Macdonald was already a Disney princes, but this appearance as Pokkit really made me love that typical Scottish style all the more.
Thank the Maker! What an excellent episode. 👏🏽👏🏽
Merry Christmas and Hanukkah Sameach to all!
Episode 5 - best episode of Skeleton Crew (so far)
Episode 5 - best episode of The Acolyte
Episode 5 - best episode of Ahsoka
(Episode 5-6 best episodes of Obi Wan Kenobi)
I finally caught up with this series and this was the best one.
But as usual I always re-watch these episodes and its worth it.
5:11 That’s Assuming she survived the Acid chamber refilling.
7:19 I loved the reverse pit fall trap.
I think I love this show. It’s adventurous and whimsical but also dangerous. Jod is one of the best characters in ages and the kids are so darn sweet.
I think what I love about this show is that it’s the first Star Wars show in a long time that presents the galaxy as a big place.
I think you are mistaken about the Hutt's intention with the small assistant. In the BOBF we see the male Hutt using what looked like a hamster type of creature to absorb the sweat off his brow while out in the suns. Thats why he said "Not again" for as you stated it would make no sense that he ate him once before. Jabba enjoyed frogs as seen in ROTJ just like Grogu does, which is weird because his speices looks like a frog, unless they are into cannibalism of distant relatives.
I loved this episode so much. Everything hit. I could see stuff and know what was going to happen, but it was great. I saw Wim with the lightsaber and as soon as we got the close up on his face, I could tell he was probably holding it upside down and man... I'm really glad he didn't accidentally stab himself.
I know that they kids haven’t all just fallen into a pit of spikes & are now all impaled but there’s no way for Wim to know that & frankly given what the trap door was protecting, is the most likely outcome. In that way it’s actually exactly like pushing the green button, a rash decision w/ the difference being that in this instance he’s/they’re backed into a corner whereas the green button was sheer impulse. It just will turn out that in this instance his rash decision making helps them all by getting them out of immediate danger from Jod.
That lightsaber has two emitters. Which is why I think he messed up when he ignited it.
Watching yhis show weekly with my kids has been a lot of fun. They are LOCKED IN, shouting at the kids on the screen when they do something stupid and all that.
I haven't heard anyone mention that Fern also seems to be missing a parent. I wonder what that story is...
Captain Hook’s first mate. Smee.
The droid’s name? sm33. Go figure.
SM-33 reminded me of a theme park fan who complained that his favorite ride or attraction was removed for something new.
Very on brand for Disney lol
"what? They replaced the 20000 leagues submarine ride with this?!" Lol
Happy Christmas to you and Mollie. Thank you for all you do for Star Wars. You guys rock!
I’m not entirely sure Jod is turning on the kids. He ordered 33 to take them prisoner so he was still going to take them with him. He just wanted to be in charge
I am curious about how long the camera lingered on Jod with this back turned to it before he "challenged" Fern to be captain. As well as continuously begging her to yield instead of just killing them if that's all he had to do for his own benefit. I think there is a likelihood that will show as relevant later.
best moment of the episode:
Jod/Jack/name of the week orders SM-33 to flood the stairwell full of pirates...
followed by offscreen screams
🤣🤣🤣🤣
33 never actually says Rennod died in the crash, only the "mutinous lot"
Something to think about.
This has been my favorite episode so far, though I have liked every episode a lot! As much as I expected Jod to betray the kids at some point, it was still tough but exciting to see. And now he has a lightsaber... Wim screwing up turning on the lightsaber wrong was comedic and tragic, but it felt real because any kid who finds a weapon they have no idea how to use is going screw up using it.
I really want SM-33 to make it to the end and hopefully show up later down the line in the New Republic/Mando-verse because I want to see a conversation between him and Huyang.
I'd like to see he and Chopper share an action scene.
The treasure vault discovery gave me some National Treasure vibes.
I poo poo’d last weeks episode, even though it had some good stuff in it. This week, THIS EPISODE, oh my goodness it had it all, simply wonderful. This series has exalted to another level now for me.
Maybe Jod just thought he couldn't let the kids stay in charge with how dangerous the mission got. He had no intentions of hurting the kids or anything. Maybe next episode they start with him searching for them and apologizing.
Merry Christmas. So, maybe Jod is like Kanan if he'd never met Hera.
I more got a feeling that Jod was tired of playing along with the kids who have 0 clue about what they are into. Or how much danger they are in.
The danger levels in this episode increased A LOT. We actually saw people dying. Pretty much innocent people.
No doubt Jod isn't to be completely trusted. But numerous occasions of Fern, completely out of her depth, trying to ice him out has resulted in a bunch of issues that he's having to work around.
I've personally gotten frustrated with Fern more recently than Wim.
It was interesting to see how much Fern takes after her mother. Overriding droids. Projecting authority. I wonder if her mother will similarly be shown to be out of her depth$?
Thanks for the video in the middle of holidays! And for the positivity of your vids!
Punch sound effect sounds just like Indiana Jones punch.
I dont have high expectations for the show but it proves me wrong every week!
This episode was great! I love how 33 built up the lair and I knew it had to have changed so he would be wrong, but it was all so fun! He was hilarious! I also love seeing the kids be kids. When the hotel lady asks about the “wise elders” and we pan over to see them being goofy, perfection! Them arguing about going on certain teams, great stuff!
I’m just wondering how many resort security guards met their demise from the various pirate traps.
When Wim walks away, why does Jod follow? Distrust or genuine camaraderie? Is there a parallel between them? It seems Jod wants Wim to stay on track with his inner passions. Maybe Jod became a pirate because he did not follow his inner passions to survive in a suddenly chaotic galaxy. Wim still has a chance to avoid a life that does not align with ones essence. Jod uses a Qui Gon line about focus with Wim. Is there any kind of relationship between Jod and Qui Gon though indirect? Or did Qui Gon just repeat commonly used Jedi phrases like most other Jedi with the difference of tweaking origibal meanings to suit his open minded style? Something tells me Jod knew someone that knew Qui Gon.
Actually Star Trek Beyond has a similar exotic chalk skin female hunter/warrior.
But I read that Pokkit a new species and not Umbaran.
Merry Christmas from the UK 🇬🇧
This is the series that keeps on giving, and this was probably their best episode to date.
When I saw the Muuns of the Banking Clan I had two thoughts: are they a subsidiary like Damask Holdings (from the Darth Plagueis novel) and do they have something to do with the Great Work and responsible for keeping worlds like At Attin isolated from the wider galaxy? Are these worlds, the “Jewels of the Old Republic”, part of the Corporate Sector?
Either way it was cool to hear the IBC mentioned and the brief appearance of Muun financiers in this episode.
I like how it's like watching Rebels and Bad Batch.
Security guy being impaled is like watching the 5th Brother cutting those people in the hallway while kidnapping force sensitive kids. Jod betraying the kids is like Cid to the Bad Batch.
SWSC has hooked me for sure. This episode was awesome. It’s so nice to be hyped for Star Wars again!! Merry Christmas!!
Please don't flame me for what I'm about to say. In my opinion, Skeleton Crew is not deserving of the praise it is acclaiming. I know, I know, that must sound absolutely mental to most people, but please hear me out. First, the personalities of the children and how they act feels very cliche like some 80's movie. This is especially strengthened by the interactions between the kids in the latter half of the first episode. Throughout every episode, people do unnecessary flips and spins by explaining them as "cool," which I felt was just a very odd thing to add to the series in of itself. Second, the plot isn't exactly interesting. Some kids get lost from home and try to find their way back while being chased by people looking for treasure (is this The Goonies?). I also feel like the story is very straightforward and simple, (although that may just be me). Third, where did the budget go? Skeleton Crew had a budget higher than the likes of Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but it seemed to have a lower quality than them. Settings were less fleshed out and there was a distinct lack of uniqueness. For example, nearly the entirety of episode 6 of Skeleton Crew was in one location: the base of a mountain that an experienced modeler could set up in half an hour. What did they use the money for? Lastly, a large portion of the show has felt like filler. Episodes are riddled with drawn-out emotional moments that add no value to the story and had no reason to appear in the first place. I know I'm a horrible person for making this explanation, but please don't assault me with words. Thank you for reading this!
Merry Christmas Alex and Mollie!
If you're CLOSE to 11:38 on the video timeline do you make extra little cuts or additions to hit it for maximum brand synergy?
I had the thought while watching it he might be an Inquisitor
Loved this episode and our family is enjoying this show!! Great Christmas gift.
I haven’t watched this show yet. I’m just commenting to say that my whole family is wearing those same pajamas right now! Merry Christmas!
really enjoyed the episode. so much to take in. happy christmas guys !
1:31 I think it was "Rennod's ghost."
brains need oxygen. what if kb is scared of pools cuz she essentially drowned as an infant but star wars tech and hover parents saved her
Talk about cliffy of an ending! I dunno maybe I am reading too much into but them only showing sound of the light saber activating and not showing the colour the blade might be something for New Year’s Eve?
Love the episode with the twist and turns! Despite Jod ordering them to be taken prisoner I still honestly believe that it’s a way to avoid hurting them but also getting them out of the way at the same time.
Merry Christmas to you and yours. And thank you.
