So the entire planet has been tricked into servitude to supply the wealth for tak rennod. However a mutiny happened and they were all killed when the ship crashed
Just printing/minting/making money devalues it. There has to be something more to it than a simple treasure hunt. Or maybe letting economics get in the way of a good pirate story is expecting too much.
I also was starting to believe that the Rennod and the Supervisor were the same person since the audience has not been able to see the faces of either characters yet. Rennod could have faked his death when crashing into At Attin, then took over the planet.
Worthless, WORTH ….. LESS. It is worth significantly less on At Attin. It’s why lunch money was worth killing over. To the planet it’s lunch money (less) to the galaxy it’s a lot (more).
@@markeuslynell Yes, and my suspicion is that so much of a stockpile of gold or currency would have a similar effect if released into the galactic economy that there may well be a more valuable secret hidden by the planet. The "treasure" is another smokescreen like the barrier .... plain old pirate treasure seems too mundane even for a Star Wars story.
I like the analogy to the gold dollar coin. It may say $1 and that's how they use it on At Attin, but really it's worth $100 in gold or New Republic Credits (more to coin collectors). The New Republic Credits probably contain less or no precious metals (like Rome reducing coins' silver content or our coins today of zinc pennies and others of mostly copper) than the Old Republic Credits and they're probably a fiat currency and not backed by anything. It seems they're stuck with not having enough in circulation to function properly as currency and they can't make more without reducing the value of them even more. If the New Republic gets At Attin's reserves, the Old Republic Credits can function as a reserve currency like those used for transactions between countries and banks, which will make the New Republic credits worth more so they can produce more without currency inflation.
Jod’s reaction to finally seeing and touching the gold is similar to Long John Silver’s reaction in Treasure Planet when he finally has fold the gold on the planet.
Who else is here because this show is so good? From the cinematography, the musical score, and majority of the acting! True Star Wars! It’s been captivating me! Check out that mint scene!
When jod was holding the lightsaber towards the kids, I got the impression he didn’t know how to use it. Or at least it didn’t feel comfortable in his hands. I don’t think he has a connection to the Jedi order.
The supervisor will be the original pirate captain... He took over Ad Attin and lives with his horde like a dragon. He's not going to be too happy knowing Jod is on his planet.
True. But it could go either way, since no one has said anything about no one seeing the Supervisor in years, like the Wizard of Oz. It could just be some guy elected to the post, like a Fed Chairman. He might not respond to requests for audience much, nor socialize much and is pretty anonymous (outside the elite that voted for him) so can live in a decent house without suspicion. Some say Neel's father would fit that, but keeps it secret from even his own family.
I like the ongoing theme that the droids are stupid and easily manipulated. Except by the At Attin adults, apparently. The fact that the droids were only using their weapons to stun the parents is telling.
The droids accept Jod as a Republic emissary because he arrived in an official emissary's ship. That's also why it could slip through the barrier unmolested.
Ryan, I’ve watched SO, SO many of your shows, and Somehow Palpatine Returned never gets old. Ever. I laugh every frakking time. I don’t know if I will ever stop laughing at that joke. Every time man. Dog, you have a rad Person.😮
Jod is a survivor from order 66. His statement "you're all weak. Weak sheltered spoiled children". This is a view of the killing of the younglings of someone blaming their failure on not saving their friends on them being sheltered and spoiled. If he had been a jedi, he could have done more. But he was sheltered and spoiled in regards to real life. It is also why he cared about Wim and the pain he is going through.
It's missing the high stakes sociopolitical moral typically imbedded in Star Wars. The Acolyte would actually be a better base to work with in that sense. I have no idea what the purpose of Skeleton Crew is. The protagonists are clueless and the antagonist is just some petty criminal. It's as if someone wanted to make a story as intellectually void and morally infantile as possible.
Calling this show "morally infantile" comes across as you being intellectually superior, IMO. Friendship, resilience, family, forgiveness... Those are all themes present on Skeleton Crew, and they are relevant to children and adults alike.
@@jbuster9 I haven't been able to sit through more than a single episode of Skeleton Crew. It's Star Wars if Star Wars were on Nickelodeon. I stopped watching that network and became an adult.
@conscientiousobjector5988 I'm sorry you've become disconnected from your inner child. Just doubled down on the condescending attitude there, eh? Given that you've only watched the first episode (or whichever sole episode you watched), your opinion carries a lot less weight.
Great timing on your recent relocation to LA, I'm sure nothing will go wrong. (If you're in LA, be safe everyone. Seeing Jasper go up last summer was bad enough).
I've been thoroughly enjoying Skeleton Crew. The writing has been good. The actors have been good. And Jod, it's been great watching the facade drop and see the person underneath the moment he got his hands on a room full of treasure. And this last episode when he saw, literally, more wealth than he could imagine! It will be interesting to see how things wrap up. Give this team more Star Wars!
The fact it has a 3.8 on google makes me sad, after all the grief we've been through with starwars and we get a decent TV show that leans into so many of the old tropes of starwars for the OT and PT fans it's like we're just shooting ourselves in the foot.
@@CrackedTubeGamer Give it time. It's possible kids love it but don't post online, like they didn't during _The Phantom Menace._ The _Onyx Cinder_ was sold out at the LEGO store I visited last week, so someone's buying it.
Jod is a foil to the parents: he is free from attachments, but seeks wealth above all. The parents have a planet of gold, but could care less and just want thier kids home. I bet Whim will have a choice in the final episode: flee with Jod and become an adventurer, or stay with his family and friends on At Attin.
I thought you were going to skip over the "Treasure Planet" reference and almost died... However, Brutus did say it first when they first arrived "This At Attin of yours don't look like a treasure planet to me." I literally thought he was going to turn and wink at the camera lol
I'm expecting a Long John Silver type ending where Jod sticks to his pirate morals and lust for treasure but still has a small soft spot and lets the kids go
Yes! The eye-rat is totally Captain Rennod! I said that when the kids ask 33 something in a previous episode… I should figure out which one if I’m going to make this point… but as 33 is answering a question, the rat quickly scurries back inside 33s head and 33 resets and says his “Can’t say I remember no At Attin” line.
The Onyx Cinder’s landing gear looked a lot like the gear on Trade Federation ships. Since The Banking Clan - The Muun’s - financed the clone wars, and since we’ve never seen a Muunalist ship in canon before, could this be a Muun ship? They the showed Muun on the show already.
Not sure how the Banking Clan would feel if At Attin's stockpile of credits goes to the New Republic. I'm thinking they might want to keep the New Republic under their control financially, rather than see galactic prosperity. Somewhat like how IMF and World Bank order countries to implement austerity measures, though it's said most of those hinder recovery and economic growth.
I'd be mindful of a turn in the next episode - the supervisor is expecting this ship to drop something off!The supervisor is literally shutting down the whole city until "off-loading" is complete. I'm still betting on the supervisor being the actual villain
Someone else mentioned that term means they're expecting the _Onyx Cinder_ to drop off coin! Jod could say he made a special trip just to drop off the kids. So maybe it's not really a mint, or they're waiting for a load of precious metals to turn into credits. I think the Old Republic Credits were supposed to circulate, so why would they be sitting there acting like a reserve currency or gold stockpile? Even if the Supervisor (and his predecessors) knowingly strung along the population to make busy work for 1000 years, people there are living in peace and without want. It's like peaceful farming for hundreds of years: they may not be contributing much to society or advancing technology (i.e. making history), but they're living their lives.
So, one would think that the value of these Old Republic credits is because they are so rare in the current time, the sudden appearance of LOTS of them could cause their value to plummet. Supply and demand. The best way to manage that is to take as many as Jod can, and then just use them reasonably sparingly over time...like maybe no more than 50 per day. They would mostly hold their value (it could decline over 40 years of using them constantly) but not freefall the way they could if he just spends tens of thousands of them every year.
The galaxy is pretty big. If he unloaded them on one or two planets that could affect its local economy for some time, like the King of Timbuktu unloading gold in Egypt during his hajj to Mecca, which affected the economy for 12 years. But I think if it acted as reserve currency of the New Republic, then they could transfer to other banks & planets to pay off debts, and mint more New Republic Credits that were previously fiat currency that people were probably suspicious of, if the New Republic would survive. There was also a shortage (as Jod attests to), so it was probably hard to pay people in credits. The Banking Clan is probably responsible for austerity just like the IMF and World Bank are for some countries which is good for creditors but bad for people and hinders economic growth.
Im happy Disney finally did my idea Ive been talkimg about since Pirates of the Caribbean 3. I always thought they needed to take the story into space and do a Captain Harlock / Queen Emeraldas sort of thing.
Seems to me that the next episode is going to be KB getting in touch with Owl-ia Shawkat and the New Republic is going to save the day. They've teased X-Wings as the cavalry twice now, and the last thing she said to KB was to call her if she ever needed anything.
They can't communicate outside the barrier. They needed to call Kh'ymm before they went through, and I don't think they did. So I think they (At Attin) have to deal with Jod and the pirates on their own.
@@settingofthesunspretty plot obvious at this point, or we'd have seen the Supervisor or some evidence of Rennod already, given how many times they both have been mentioned.
Music is fantastic! Not only the composition but also when it is and isn't used. The choice NOT to have a swell of music at Brutus's murder goes against convention and adds brutality to that moment.
Seeing the money may have been the final crank of Jod's heel-turn, but the near tears look he had just before the creepy music made me remember his "We're All Hungry" speech to the pirates. You were absolutely right what you said then; even though they don't have ST:TNG replicators, with all there other tech the SW-Verse should *totally* have a post-scarcity society, and yet there is sooo many people across the galaxy scrounging and scraping just to get by.
Yeah, I was thinking of Luke's uncle's farm. They have to keep Tuscan Raiders away, and probably pay protection to the local gangsters so scum from Mos Eisley don't come calling. They call themselves "moisture farmers," but they probably grow and harvest spice (legal and illegal). Meanwhile the Empire did incredible defense spending and probably ruined the economy by their authoritarian ways.
As obvious as it will be, that the overseer will be a droid, I would love to see some old, aged Old Republic Jedi step out and just fling Jod across the room. But that would open up a can of worms in continuity....
Oh, I have a far more fun theory about the Supervisor! And I honestly reckon I'll be right. First of all, I think the Supervisor is going to heroically swoop in and "save" the kids from Jod. But actually, he'll be a bad guy who only SEEMS to be a hero. Also, I think there'll be a big reveal that he's someone very familiar from the sequel trilogy. And who would that be? I genuinely think he'll be a Snoke clone. Maybe the one we already met, maybe a different one, but certainly living in luxury and wearing the exact same kind of luxurious clothing and sitting in the same kind of throne. But as I say, the kids and their parents won't recognise that he's a bad guy, they'll be super grateful and think he's just a kind and benevolent leader. Seriously, a Snoke - I'd put money on it.
What I didn’t get was why the droids were just ok with the kids and parent being down at the vault and that they were all just ok seeing the vault open..
@@nachoman408Too risky. Jod would start killing them all for sure. And this way we get a week to see if he's going to give up the ruse or try to string everyone along further. Probably that, because he doesn't have any of the money yet.
I was thinking he was going to use the parents to get the code or password to confirm his credentials as Emissary. Which can be tricky if we assume they're under constant observation in the vault. But then someone said they used the term "offload" which sounds like taking things like precious metals or Old Republic Credits _off_ the _Onyx Cinder!_ Boy is Jod going to love that twist! The second possibility is because the kids have been outside the shield, they need to be kept apart from the populace so they don't know the Old Republic has fallen. They and their parents might be asked to leave on the _Onyx Cinder_ to keep the secret.
RIP Smee. I mean someone can fix him but still, he went like a Jedi not a droid. My prediction. Is Rennard is the supervisor. He knows a pirate when he sees one and if he had a lightsaber in his lair. I’m sure he has one now. So we probably get supervisor vs. Jod and teaches him the pirates code is all Bunk. More about the Bank. Pirates don’t want to be pirates. “We can’t rob and steal forever.” -Black Sails. Knowing how Disney writes. One of us is probably right about the ending.
Jod being the former padawan to Pong Krell would make a lot of sense. Though it was never said officially that Krell even had an apprentice before the clone wars, Jod does seem like he has characteristic traits that are very similar to Pong. So it's a possibility.
Curious that he was absent again, and didn't speak during the message. Perhaps he's the Supervisor, pretending to be a busy subordinate to his family and friends? I give that 10% chance; droid 40%, nobody-we-know 40%, Rennod 10%.
Is no one going to delve into how so much currency can ruin the galactic economy? Every TH-camr tries to connect it to the Second Order, the Remnant, or even Thrawn, saying this was how they got the necessary funds to do whatever, but from an economic point of view, that sudden discovery of metal would destroy everything. And, given the first episode, a robot lecturing about economy, conversion rates and so on, my guess is the producers do have that in mind. Perhaps that would be the reason why Rennod (if he survived) lived as the administrator for a while - being in hiding, using more sparsely the discovered treasure to not devaluate it.
The galactic economy is so vast it's impervious to such fluctuations. 😂😂😂 I was thinking no one has ever come to At Attin since the old republic era. The way they reacted when the ship landed, the announcement it all seemed alien to the citizens nearest the landing pad.
Snap. I've been saying the same thing. A pirate treasure hunt is too mundane especially as the gold has been found before the final episode. I think its another smokescreen like the barrier.
It's ancient. Non legal tender (except to pirates maybe). Collectible at first, but in that quantity you'll be able to buy a cartload for a new credit. Still worth billions as refined metal, but not any kind of threat to the monetary system.
I think it was once meant to be circulated currency having innate value of precious metals, like the gold dollar coins were. Then it was withdrawn or hoarded. So an Old Republic Credit might be worth 1:100 to New Republic Credits, as the gold in the dollar is worth $100 (more to coin collectors). If given to the New Republic they can be used as a Reserve Currency, like bank-to-bank and planet-to-planet, backing their circulating currency for retail transactions, and allowing them to produce more New Republic Credits to meet the increased demand as they become Solvent and the galactic economy improves. Chances are the Banking Clan is imposing "austerity" on the New Republic to control them, which prevents growth and prosperity. We've had gold discoveries resulting in increased production and supply that haven't "destroyed everything" in the world economy, whether California, Alaska, or South Africa. They say that 80%+ of gold above ground on Earth was mined in the last 200 years. But it's still valuable. This isn't Spain during the 16th and 17th centuries that relied on gold from the New World to import things, rather than producing themselves, which destroyed their economy. Now if a Pirate takes a load of these credits to a world or two and uses them to buy up everything, then that could disrupt the local economy until the money spreads out across the galaxy. That's what happened when the King of Timbuktu stopped in Egypt on his hajj to Mecca. All that gold he threw around disrupted the economy there for 12 years.
I know everyone keeps thinking Merc Pirate guy is a force user or even a Jedi who escaped order 66 but...... I heavily doubt it. It's always filmed too try hard in each clip with him doing something "seen" as the force. Honestly until he does a legit force push (not pull) on something not heavily metal or metal at all.....I won't believe it. He's a trickster after all.

The money clearly isn't worthless on At Attin, in the first episode Wim's dad gave him lunch money and told him it was only enough for the week...
He basically gave him hundreds of dollars for a weeks' worth of lunch. The money is obviously de-valued.
1:15 "He's just a straight-up murderer."
Did we already forget he acidified a whole ship crew a couple of episodes ago?
Some of them got away. But he did kill the captain of the freighter, who he probably could have ransomed back to the company. He should pay for that.
Who else is here because this show is so good? From the cinematography, the musical score, and majority of the acting! True Star Wars! It’s been captivating me! Check out that mint scene!
I love how real of a villian Jod is, i wasnt expecting him to be so well written
When jod was holding the lightsaber towards the kids, I got the impression he didn’t know how to use it. Or at least it didn’t feel comfortable in his hands. I don’t think he has a connection to the Jedi order.
I get the impression he knows how to use it, but might be a little wary of it, with the way he always keeps the ignited blade far away from his body.
The supervisor will be the original pirate captain... He took over Ad Attin and lives with his horde like a dragon. He's not going to be too happy knowing Jod is on his planet.
I highly doubt he is unaware or unprepared. He might be quite dead, though, having gone full Landru.
The 2 creatures that say "I'd hope you'd be pleased " both sound the exact same. Even the rhythm of their speech. Does no one else heard it.
The message from the supervisor felt automatically triggered by the ship showing up
"Shut up or I'll give you a fresh one" is a wild thing to say
Give these guys a movie, the fan fare was awesome but the show is just amazing.
@@conscientiousobjector5988buuuuut it's really well-made whereas The Acolyte was awful.
Given that you've only watched the first episode (or whichever sole episode you watched), your opinion carries a lot less weight.
love how even though the kids are home, its still not over, they cant escape from this.
This was a great episode. Going to be a next week when Skeleton Crew is over.
I love your lightsaber, Ryan! I love when you remind us that you’re one of us!
However, Brutus did say it first when they first arrived "This At Attin of yours don't look like a treasure planet to me."
I literally thought he was going to turn and wink at the camera lol
So many of these Easter Eggs are such reaches and honestly are kind of long shots. But here I am for every minute of it. Thanks for the thorough work!
Bruh! Hard heel turn? He's an 80's based pirate. We're lucky he didn't start snorting cocaine 1st. 😂
Master Sifo Dyas was the emmisary, that's where he got the money for a clone army and ships
I think Jod knows the droids brought them all to the vault to get rid of them and is readying the lightsaber to fight them. Nice fake out though.
I liked how Fern showed growth when she did the unclaimsies of the ship for the kids not just her.
I'm expecting a Long John Silver type ending where Jod sticks to his pirate morals and lust for treasure but still has a small soft spot and lets the kids go
I hope he doesn't get away.
"Or the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull!"
"Sure..."
I think Jod is traumatized from Order 66 and has crushing survivor’s guilt.
I waited 9000 years for this breakdown
Arrr.
9:43 Okay, this is imho, THE best and funniest part of the video, a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
The pirate starfighters are R-41 Starchasers. They first appeared in the game TIE Figher.
I was pretty cold the way he capped the wolfman guy with a Lazer pirate gun
Like Remy in Ratatouille
Yessss! I turned to my husband and said this during the episode, haha. But then I started wondering if I was crazy, haha.
There is no way a rat can live more than 200 years though
another possible theory is that Jod is another survivor of Anikan's youngling assault.
I think he left or got kicked out of the Order and couldn't find his way home, or his parents were gone or killed.
I really don't think the Onyx Cinder is an At Atin ship but an Republic Embassy ship. That is why At Akron put it on an autopilot course.
A fine distinction, but probably correct. It could be that one of the other "At" planets was the mint and At Attin is just the vaults.
Yeah the little communication device totally reminded me of E.T !
Reminded me of Lola (aka L0-LA59).
How do you not know how to pronounce Revan's name RYAN? 6:14
Leji Matsumoto for the win
Wait… people can see a guy do one swing of a lightsaber and say “that’s form 7 maybe he was Pong Krell’s apprentice”?
Apparently yes
this is fucking crazy but yeah
No, no they can't.
No
People can read the serial number on his kyber crystal and tell you which Disney it came from.
Seems to me that the next episode is going to be KB getting in touch with Owl-ia Shawkat and the New Republic is going to save the day. They've teased X-Wings as the cavalry twice now, and the last thing she said to KB was to call her if she ever needed anything.
one can hope a scene the kids to go up onto the roof and go "X-WING!! THE CADILLAC OF THE SKIESSSS"
They can't communicate outside the barrier. They needed to call Kh'ymm before they went through, and I don't think they did. So I think they (At Attin) have to deal with Jod and the pirates on their own.
Thanks to Ryan, Harriet, Randolf, Brianna and Lee! ✨💀✨ If that bilge rat turns out to be 'Rennod', I'll eat my hat.

You showed a Defel when you mentioned Brutus. Also, why hasn't anyone mentioned Brutus as the man who betrayed Caesar?
Stephen Fry as the Supervisor! I wonder if he is a droid too? Someone elsewhere suggested he could be captain Rennod even.
As obvious as it will be, that the overseer will be a droid, I would love to see some old, aged Old Republic Jedi step out and just fling Jod across the room.
But that would open up a can of worms in continuity....
It'll be Ki-adi Mundi.
Reevan? 🤨
Man, I'm glad we got this series.
The supervisor is played by Stephen Fry
Can’t think of him every playing a sinister character but hey he has an British accent so he’s bound to be evil right 😂
Come to think of it he did play a psychotic droid called Legion in Red Dwarf so maybe, just maybe
Stephen Fry or not, I listened to the supervisor and then watched a Snoke scene, and they do sound somewhat similar 🤔
What I didn’t get was why the droids were just ok with the kids and parent being down at the vault and that they were all just ok seeing the vault open..
Exactly, and the first thing the kids shoulda done is told the druids when they were alone with them, or tell their parents!
“We can’t rob and steal forever.”
-Black Sails.
Knowing how Disney writes. One of us is probably right about the ending.
12:55 Ryan just wanted to show off his saber😂
1138 also makes an appearance in The Phantom Menace, it's the droid JarJar taps with his hands before it falls down from being deactivated.
This is the first time I've caught the premier.
Jod being the former padawan to Pong Krell would make a lot of sense. Though it was never said officially that Krell even had an apprentice before the clone wars, Jod does seem like he has characteristic traits that are very similar to Pong. So it's a possibility.
Graball? Thought it was slap ball that Neel mentioned in EP 4
oh man the mum jokes get me every time.
Omg, that's hilarious, the mouse is the captain! I love it!
Where was elephant dad? He looks like he could be a bad ass.
Just think while everyone else is laughing at all the matrix jokes in movies and TV shows that have been made over the years that kid just sits there and stares not knowing why it's funny
