  • More information on Ring vs Nest is available here: www.security.org/home-securit...
    Note: The Nest Thermostat E now has auto-schedules like the Nest Learning Thermostat. Nest Secure has been discontinued and is no longer available for purchase on the Google store, but existing systems will continue to function normally The ecobee thermostats now work with Google Assistant in addition to Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro, Stick Up Cam Wired and Spotlight Cam Wired now have person detection with a Ring Protect plan. Blink now offers up to 60 days of cloud storage.
    This is the Ring vs Nest review to end all reviews, comparing tons of products like the #RingVideoDoorbell2, the #NestSecure security system, the #NestHelloVideoDoorbell, along with tons of other great products from Google and Amazon-owned companies.

    0:00 Introduction to Ring vs Nest
    4:11 Ring Alarm vs. Nest Secure
    7:39 Ring Video Doorbell 2 vs. Ring Video Doorbell Pro vs Nest Hello
    12:37 Amazon Cloud Cam vs. Nest Cam Indoor
    15:17 Ring Stickup Cam Wired vs Nest Cam Indoor IQ
    17:54 Blink XT2 vs Nest Cam Outdoor
    21:04 Ring Spotlight Cam Battery vs. Nest Cam Outdoor IQ
    24:53 Ecobee4 vs. Nest Learning Thermostat
    27:57 Amazon Echo Show vs. Google Nest Hub
    In this video, I’m taking you through my Amazon house, filled with smart home products from #Blink, #RingAlarm, and the #AmazonCloudCam, and my Google house, filled with Nest products. From indoor cameras and outdoor cameras to security systems, video doorbells, smart thermostats, and smart smoke and C.O detectors, I’ll give you the most comprehensive view of an Amazon vs. Google and Ring vs Nest smart home.
    Overall, I think that the Nest system is more cohesive, as it’s all under one brand. Amazon, on the other hand, is composed of three different brands, the Amazon Cloud Cam, Ring, and Blink. While these components can all work together, the disparity of the brands does make installation a bit more difficult. However, Nest products are much more expensive than Amazon’s slew of products, so that’s something to keep in mind as well.
    After I give you a brief overview of the defining characteristics of Ring vs Nest, I’ll get into specific product comparisons. As far as security systems go, I’m comparing Ring Alarm to #NestSecure, both very minimalist systems with optional 24/7 professional monitoring and cellular backup. I added indoor and outdoor cameras to my security systems, namely the Amazon Cloud Cam and the #RingStickupCamWired from Ring and the #NestCamIndoor and #NestCamIQIndoor from Nest. Now, Nest has more technologically advanced cameras than Ring, but again, you will have to pay significantly more.
    After the indoor cameras, we’ll compare the #BlinkXT2 and the #RingSpotlightCamBattery to the #NestCamOutdoor and #NestCamIQOutdoor, which are pretty equal to their indoor counterparts in terms of features and pricing. Aside from the basic security system and cameras, I’ll cover smart thermostats, namely the #ecobee4 vs. the #NestThermostat and #NestProtect, plus smart hubs and speakers from each company.

    New Subscriber. One well produced, informative and thorought review which includes different camera types. I am a believer that having one brand only is a detrimental security flaw. Personally, I have accumulated one Nest Outdoor camera which does its main purpose for what I needed it for vs 3 wired ring cameras and just purchased the Ring Peephole camera which does it own purpose. Outside of that , I just purchased a panasonic Homehawk window home monitoring and the Reolink Argust PT w/ Solar panel. In other words, i am "diversifying" my home security "portafolio" and shelling my hard earned money out the door. :P Good job on your review and you gained me as a permanent subscriber. (Two Thumbs up)

      I am the same. I liked the last comment about what market these two systems seem to be marketing to. Nest to the small apartment/condo dweller and Ring to the single-family home dweller with land & multiple entrances. It will be interesting to see which one adds more to the investment of the system over the next 2 years (and at what cost).

      I was going to say the same thing in their reviews of the infrared functions on the cameras. I think they had a distance issue with the Stick-up camera by Ring, and the two indoor camera reviews on the wall picking up too much IR reflection on the surfaces nearest to the camera & washing everything out in the distance.

I can’t complain. I never used Nest but I heard it was good. But for the price, I’ll probably just stick with Ring.

    Attaching the doorbell to the mount is a little difficult but once it locks into place it seems extremely sturdy. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxxHZwMa8CsRjYhf9s4W8w0Dwm47uytWOp I replaced my regular doorbell with this and hard wired it in, using my existing wires and mechanical chime. It works perfect so far and integrates perfectly with my blink camera system. It also works seamlessly with Alexa

    Awesome information. I recently installed my Nest Hello finally and have so far been happy about it. I do need to see how to effectively put in zones as I'm getting far too many alerts. I also get a lot of sound alerts, but not sure how to "dial" that back. I got it so it doesn't notify me of sound events, but if I look at a day's worth of footage, there are dozens of alerts throughout the day, most of them false positives.

    15:36 is because of "Infared Flooding". The LED IR lights on the Stick up cam are being reflected from the table back onto the camera, Causing it to only focus on the table. The position of the camera is the obvious culprit.

      I added the newish smart slights to solve that problem for me. So when some one gets close enough to the light on my yard it’s triggers the camera to start and if they walk close enough into the yard my floodlight cam is already recording. And I the smart lights make the yard look nice at night so I didn’t mind buying the extra product.

    I got the nest family kit through T-Mobile about two years ago. It was $500 and the subscription was $10/mo. It included the base, 2 detectors, 1 camera. I took it back after two false alarms in less than a week. I don’t have any pets so I have no idea why it was triggering so often. I’ve now got a ring peephole camera and I like it so far. No false triggers on the motion detector and the video is okay for the price.

    Hi there, I liked your video as it helped me see both sides of the fence but I’m wondering if you’ve compared person detection correctly. On my nest doorbell I get the option for people or motion and I was wondering if ring did the same. I and many other people don’t do motion as it gives a lot of notifications so I’m just wondering if ring is as advanced as nest in that regard.
    Thank you for the great video

    Watched the video but still can't make my mind around it, plus what do I do if I have older cameras as well, I need a system that can contain all the different devices and give me a report with storage, say something like Ajax-system, do you know any other system similar to this one, cause In my city I can get access to both Nest and Ring, but I would like to mix them. In any case I succeed, is mixing them and connect them with Ajax a good idea???

    • @Jesus_616_Christ
      @Jesus_616_Christ 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, a mix and match is way more pain than it's worth. Constantly having to reset devices, things not connecting right, I would not recommend it

    • @blindbalance5855
      @blindbalance5855 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there! It seems that this is not the best idea. Mixing different systems in the hope that everything will work as it should is stupid. This isn't about playing games, it's about the security system that your life may depend on, bro. In fact, if there is an option to purchase ajax, it is best to purchase all products from ajax. You don't install playmarket on your iPhone, do you? The same situation is here. Just think about it and make an informed decision about whether you need it or not. And good luck to you!

I just want to be able to be notified when someone is at my door via the bell push and camera initiating the App on my iPhone and then to speak with them without having to go to the door. Is this possible? My current doorbell is wired and has a chime in the hallway.

      Hey, yes you can turn off the chimes. On the Ring app go into settings> doorbell kit settings> change the toggle for "Ring my in-home doorbell" to be off. More info on the Ring Video Doorbell Pro here: bit.ly/2Kp9Jin

    The Nest IQ Outdoor Camera is best if your home has a cover/porch to shield it from rain and snow. I've gone through 3 camera replacements - the camera fails to power on. A lot of homeowners have had similar issues to mine. I've attached a very helpful explanation from another customer explaining the issue on google's nest website:
    "camera mount does not provide a waterproof seal around the USB cable and USB connector in the Nest camera. Once water enters the space, the female USB connector deteriorates rapidly causing power disruption or the "red outer ring flashing" indicating insufficient power. I have gone through 5 cameras, mounted both vertically and horizontally, and they have all failed about a week after it rains. Nest needs to fix this "weatherproofing" issue to resolve these types of problems in the future."

    thanks for the thorough review! I can't really convince myself to buy wither of these, simply because of the dependency on wireless and cloud. For security, I really need something hardwired and local to the house. Also all the battery powered devices must be a nightmare to keep up with. I want to set it and forget it, and never have to worry about changing batteries. Do you know if there are any other systems out there that might be better for me?

    • @SecurityDotOrg

      No, the Ring Video Doorbell Pro needs an existing transformer. I'd go with the Ring Video Doorbell 2 as it can be battery-operated and doesn't have any installation requirements, so you can just use it as a camera and get the chime plug in as well. Here's links to each:

    The reason some of the night vision shots looked soo bad is because the IR lights were hitting an object in the foreground and reflecting back into the lens and throwing the exposure out.
    If there's nothing within 3 feet of the camera they would be much clearer.

    The Ring Spotlight plug in would have been a better option than the battery, it has customization motion zones and you forgot to mention the built in siren on both the battery and the wired one as well as the stick up camera. Siren is 95 dB. All in all, the best bang for your buck is Ring especially with that $10 a month plan since as I said before not only includes the alarm monitoring and cellular backup but 60 cloud recording for unlimited cameras vs Nest aware charges you per camera

    • @SecurityDotOrg
      @SecurityDotOrg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, although Nest Aware is actually lowering it's prices...early next year, 30 days will be $6 a month or $60 a year and 60 days will be $12 a month or $120 a year. Still more expensive than Ring but a vast improvement. Anyway, here's my written review of Ring vs. Nest for more info: bit.ly/2kpHW6D

  • @tw0pers0nalities
    @tw0pers0nalities 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Listen, ive had both and Ring is way better. Setting everything up was super easy the app did everything. Ring is much cheaper for alarm monitoring and video storage. 100 bucks a year for Ring alarm monitoring with 60 day video storage. Nest is 300 a year with 30 days video storage. Ring has more options and is compatible everything i use. I would recommend Ring to anyone looking to buy one of these cameras or alarms.

    I recently got the Nest Outdoor Camera and I have been very impressed so far. My only quarrel is that when it records motion the quality gets grainy and that is an issue if you want a clear video of what is going on etc :/ aside from that I also run Ubiquiti G3 Cameras in the car park and these cameras are great I love them and will probably install another one or two in the future. I also have the Nest Protect Smoke Alarms and they have been amazing this far the batteries have lasted a long time and have been very impressed. What I don't like about Nest now is that Google has broken the ability to use the Apps on Apple TV etc to view the cameras on the TV etc which is just screwed up!

      Google NEST sucks. I was given The Nest after relocating and continuing ADT at a different address. All of a sudden they no longer have the capacity to record 24/7 even with the upcharge. I hadn't found this out until I had my mail stolen from my front porch and was told they couldn't show footage because everything passed 3 hours is deleted unless you get the higher subscription.

    Hello. Based on your reviews, I'll have to go with Ring based on affordability. But I definitely want the Nest Hello. I have Google home everywhere including the Nest thermostat. Could I use Ring with my Google Assistant? A complete Nest ecosystem is way too costly for me. Either way, it shouldn't be a big deal having Ring Security and keeping all my other Google stuff? What are your thoughts on that? TIA.

    Thank you! This video should blow your channel up with subs and views. Very few videos like this on youtube. *Subscribed
    I have had such a hard time deciding on what Eco system to build my smart home and security.
    Question: Does the Nest security station announce where movement is seen on both motion sensors and motion cameras - Can you choose a google home to announce movements? And... vise versa - Does the "ring security" motion sensors allow Alexa to announce if motion is detected... like she does for the ring cameras? It just seems silly to have two motion sensors on you wall. One for home automation and another for security.

    • @SecurityDotOrg
      @SecurityDotOrg  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! Glad you liked the video.
      So the Nest Guard will use it's siren, lights and voice if there's movement on one of the motion sensors/ cameras when the system is armed. You'll also get a push and email notification, and you can customize your notifications in the Nest app. For more info, see my full review of Nest Secure: bit.ly/2ESy50E
      Yes, Alexa can tell you when motion is detected but I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about having two sensors on the wall...that is unnecessary for sure. For more info, here's my Ring Alarm review: bit.ly/2NKQjUK
      Hope this helped. Let me know if you have anymore questions!

      @@SecurityDotOrg I have heard that the ring alarm security motion sensors only function as a security sensor. They are unable to work as a motion sensor to Tigger lights or routines in the Alexa app. Is this true? That is what I meant about needed 2 sensors in a room. One for security and a another for home automation. Make sense? And can you confirm if the ring alarm security motion sensors (not camera sensors) are integrated with Alexa triggers and routines?

    Really enjoyed these reviews and found them very informative. My biggest complaint was sound quality. The speaker speaks very well and very clearly but it seemed, at least to me, that he was louder, more pronounced and clearer when he was starting out his speech about one of the items. About half way thru til the end, you could barely hear him. He was speaking very softly. Turning up my volume solved that but then I had to quickly turn it back down when he started speaking about a different item. That became annoying after a bit because was reviewing a lot of different items. Still, a very good job.
