The fact that Jan Valentine isn't even THAT different from his actual character in the show is terrifying
If anything, they toned him down for the Abridged.
They turned him up to 11, but he was already at 10-1/2
Having recently read the manga... It is shocking how tonally similar Abridged is to most of the manga.

On the Hellsing Ultimate ova bluray commentary track episode 10 i think, they got the police girls english voice actor to say the lines "bitches love cannons" while talking about the Abridged version and complaining about how long it took team 4 star to release it.
Dunno about the quote part, but indeed, they did joke and tease them in the commentary and absolutely loved it.
Talesin Jaffe dropped a paraphrased version in an earlier commentary, too. I forget if it was 5 or 6.

The muting TFS dialogue is literally like watching two people share a private conversation. It's kind of rough, not gunna lie.
Atleast there is usually subtitles, I already watched the show several times so it doesn't bother me *that* much but I agree also who's copyrighted audio is it? TFS?

It actually helped that they only did the Hellsing Abridged episodes every Halloween, so you see and hear the improvements of quality with each episode.

I like that right before the opening scene with the Valentine Brothers, you can SEE Taka's eyes darting to the side to see Alicia's reaction on the other screen

Alfred is like that in the comics at time. When they sometimes come at Bruce, he comes out with guns and knives. Dude is ex military and spec ops before he was a butler and he doesnt have the no kill rule.

Nah, the manga has Baron Harkonen show up, same in the original anime series.
Lynch's version of the Barron as well, book baron does not float the anti grav rig reduces his 200kg weight to 50kg, so if I recall he has less muscle and more fat them others would have at that weight.

I really love original scene of Valentine vs Alucard in Japanese. The man voicing Valentine was the legendary guy voicing Bo-bobo, Kuroyanagi from Yakitate Japan and also that DIO guy. He really sells Valentine as badass with his voice. The Alucard pulls Freeza.
Hilariously, the part when Taka starts with "What's wrong, demigod?" is very close original. Alucard is eternally bored and Val raised his expectations. "Regrow your legs, summon your minions, give me a good fight." Minus disappointment when he realized Valentine could not do that.
I think my favorite joke of this episode is the bargaining in beginning.
"And while the mime DID survive, he'll never walk again!"

I have to agree with the chatter who said 3D gives them migraines. It does the same thing for me. Now maybe that's just the brain tumor fuckin' me up, but it's true regardless.
I gotta give that extra love to Chris Zito since I came across his old content by chance nearly 20 years ago, and for better or worse, the dots were connected that led me to quite a lot of notable stuff that's been made across the internet, not just TFS.
Jan Valentine is only *barely* exaggerated.
Hellsing makes a lot more sense with that in mind.
Also in terms of the English dub, the voice cast were shown the Abridged series. Talesin Jaffe, who was the script director for the official dub, treated it as "oh this is freaking hilarious." Which yeah, the Critical Role cast know about the various abridged series and I think that's part of why they're doing their own shortened versions of Campaign 3 for people to catch up.

What I find hilarious but really interesting is how shockingly the voice acting and even the tone of the two series is. Let me explain.
The former is obvious, as even though he claims he doesn’t sound like the English VA or Alucard I was shocked when I reheard it again and said “you’re a liar!” Some of the voices match the characters, like Jan and Walter, so well that you almost forget these aren’t the same characters… well, technically.
That last sentence kind of leads to my next point. At first, the tones are obviously different. One is far more humorous than dark or the humor is because it’s dark while the other is far more dark than humorous or has the humor ground us to normalcy when all is quite in this ludicrous world. That said, the story of Hellsing in general is just so great that the abridged itself, wether intentional or not, started melding back in time to its source material, to the point in the alter episodes they almost seem identical, the only difference are a few added jokes and shortened run time. Sure, as I mentioned with some of the characters, things from the start actually kind of match the original even early on, again Walter vs Jan being the example.
My conclusion is that this: both versions are masterfully made, but they both lead to the same grand stand and tone the original story had because it was so masterful. I’m not saying I put one over the other or that one is objectively worse or better, it’s just that the original is like a sort of trail you’ve traveled many times while the other is a sort of detour, though you eventually start following the same area and practically walk through it eventually.
