  • Budget Nova Control Arm Rebuild. Before I start on the subframe. I didn't show the completed arms. I just wanted to show what was involved in changing the bushings and ball joints.

    Ok now. Im gonna be straight with you. I sub'd a while back when I inherited a 1970 Nova SS.. Im repairing or replacing everything as I go. This weekend was control arm bushing time. I watched this video and had a few thoughts. Everything you do looks pretty easy. Because your good at it ! I watched you struggle a bit with air chisel and getting the control arm bushings out. I thought, finally something he is having some trouble with ? I conceded after finally getting 1 pair out. Damn thats a tricky job at home. New set of control arms coming from part store, already set up with bushings and ball joints. Again, I take my hat off to you. Im learning from your channel constantly !! THANKS

    I've been putting off rebuilding the front suspension. Ball joints i dread, i need the v8 version springs in the front too so the car isn't so low, i still have the inline 6 springs in. I also am considering getting a hevay duty sway bar as well, but i know i need to redo the suspension first probably

    kinda painful to watch you work on that rickety little table. i hope you have a solid workbench with a vice on it. it would be so much easier with that arm clamped in a vice... but i do enjoy your videos a lot and appreciate the knowledge you share about novas. I've gotten bored with Chevelles and am gonna build a 74 Nova for 1/8 mile drags.

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol. It’s painful to use it. I have a nice bench with a big Vice. I have a reel to reel recorder project taken apart and covering the bench. So I used my little junky table. I’m building a new roll around work table so I’ll have more options.

    The problem is, is people get stuck in the one track mindset and the corporations take advantage of us, then we raise the price and take advantage of each other. All we have to do is keep the car factories pumping out new hotrod cars so we can keep the cost down. Get it? Got it? GOOD.

    Awesome videos! On the poly bushings I've been told you need to keep re-greasing (install grease gitting if possible). On control arms is this true?
    I've got a 74 only had poly on the sway bar (no sqeaks) and leafs (squeaky but i got over it).

      Not on this build. The best mod to stock arms is an upgraded shaft with built in offset.

    Just buy new a arms with everything already installed. I've tried this with a press and everything nothing works. The a arms just collapsed wasted two days removing and trying to install the new $70 set of bushings. If you can't afford new a arms just sell your car. I removed and installed my engine, trans and rear end by myself without any issues, these aren't like that, nothing will work unless your lucky as hell.

    • @gatorunleashed275
      @gatorunleashed275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Update. I managed to get one side of my 71 Nova finished, it's turned out Ok I guess. Imma do a video on it once finished, a press is useless on these only chisels and hammers work.

    • @Shop209
      @Shop209  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A regular press will destroy the stock a arms. It sucks to replace the bushings. Definitely takes practice to get it right. If I’m not on a budget I buy new arms.

    • @gatorunleashed275
      @gatorunleashed275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With a press it’s hard to know how much pressure you’re putting on them. If the arms didn’t bend and stay that way you’re fine.
