I just found myself in need of replacing one of the hinges which broke in a very unusual way and had no idea how. This was a most helpful tutorial, thanks!
Both display hinges freaking shattered on my kids FX504 about a month ago, right out of warranty of course. These things are POSes! Thanks to this video I just removed the display, and while I was at it, the battery, wifi, and spinning HDD as well. Its now my gaming desktop!
Very detailed video and excellent explanation. It would have been better if you could show the chassis quality and its support structure as there are a lot of complaints about hinges breaking. So a closer look at the quality of chassis could have been more informative for those suspicious of the hinges quality
Thank-you so much for sharing! I'm getting ready to replace the screen bezel as some of the plastic tabs by the hinge broke and now an excellent guide to follow
I'm having trouble with the 6 screws of the heatsink, I didn't see you change screwdriver nor have any problem; for me, the screwdriver I used for all the previous screw didn't work for them, so I had to get a full set of screwdriver, and even then not a single one worked (and I don't want to force on the screws/destroy them), it's either to small, too big or seem to fit but actually don't. Magnets don't help...
I removed the fans to clean them and messed smfn up. Now my screen doesn’t work. Videos really helpful but make sure you’re careful with what you do when copying it 👍
Note: ASUS TUF FX504 and FX505 series is really a low end entry gaming laptop. In preventing CPU throttling is not going to be easy to get good results in a 2018 model. If your laptop is rather hot all the time, maybe it is time to reapply Thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. Use Arctic MX-4 or Kryonaut Thermal Paste. Clean the old compound off and apply an even paper thin layer across the top of the CPU and GPU. Never use thermal pads. Also you cannot upgrade the AC 9560 WiFi card to anything other than another AC 9560. Sorry, no WiFi 6 or Bluetooth 5.0. stuck at WiFi 5 and BT 4.0. The TN 60Hz panel (screen) display can not be upgraded either. It has the AU Optronics AU038ED / B156HTN03.8 as no way possible the FX504GD-ES51 will work with a 120Hz or 144Hz screen. including any IPS display. The only thing you can do is connect the HDMI to an external monitor but without having a High End GPU such as RTX 2060 (is problematic), go with RTX 2070 Max-Q or RTX 2080 Super for 4K resolution. A GTX 1050, 1050ti, 1060, 1070. 1080, 1650, 1650ti and GTX 1660ti only able to get you 1080p HD. To replace a damaged screen with same and doing it yourself cost around $60 at your own RISK! The only 3 things you can upgrade is the 1) 2666MHz memory of 8GB up to 32GB. the 2) crappy and slow hybrid 1TB Firecuda SSHD for a nice 1TB Samsung 860 EVO SSD, 3) install a m.2 NVMe SSD such as 1TB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe PCIe m.2 ssd.

Hi, Great video congrats. I am having the problem of a loose lid, that closes by gravity at certain angles, so I would like to tighten it up. Do i need to go as far as removing the motherboard, or it is a simpler procedure? Thanks for any help you can provide.
Looks like you can get to the hinge nuts right after you remove the bottom case. Try tightening the little nuts on the end of each hinge, that may solve your issue.

does the gpu need to be soldered, or does it snap in? silly, I know, but i'm interested in upgrading the gpu on my fx705dt. it has a ryzen 5, and a 1050 or a 1050ti. it's not bad, but I like to mess with things. also, are dimensions an issue with mobile gpu's, or are they pretty cross compatible? you're video has the best breakdown I have seen yet. thank you for any answers you might have.
It is integrated/soldered to the motherboard. Most mobile GPU's are either integrated or use an MXM slot, as opposed to desktop GPU's which are usually PCIe.
I've got FX 505 and it needs keyboard replacement. I already removed MB but have no idea how to pull out the old keyboard. Any idea? It looks similar to 504.
Unfortunately they attach the backing plate with just melted plastic rivets which makes it cheaper to manufacture. You would need to break all those off, then find a way to reattach that backing plate for re-installation. The backing plate is also structural, meaning things like the motherboard and bottom case rely on it to hold in place. You could try using plastic epoxy where the rivets used to be, and let it cure overnight. You might be able to take the bezel off without disassembling anything else..... give it a shot. If you can then you will be able to remove the screen or webcam easily.
Hi. After I renew thermal paste, I lost the light of the screen but I can use with hdmi. What should I do? I might use paste bad. Could it be because of this?
Usually yes.... as long as: The bezel is removable and the screws holding on the bezel are accessible. It looks like on this model you can pull off the bezel with the screen assembly still attached. Once the bezel is off you should be able to replace the screen, just a few phillips screws and a video cable to remove, then just reverse the procedure to install.

hey, so i have this laptop, and unfortunately, the screw near the headphone jack cant be extracted, it just spins in place, and i really need to change my harddrive. is the screw holder part of the motherboard? do you have any recommendations on what i can do? or am i just screwed here? lol
I'd try removing all of the other screws, then using light upward pressure on the case might hold the broken screw post in place hard enough to extract the screw. What's going on is the place where the screw attaches broke off and is stuck under the motherboard hole. If you can just get to it enough to hold it with something you should be able to undo the screw.
Hello, I have a question. I recently reapplied the thermal paste on my FX 504's cpu and gpu. But when I removed the heatsink, I noticed that there was factory applied thermal paste on some other components and a lot of it too. So I'm just wondering what those components are and is it important to apply paste on those as well or should they just be left as it is. Thanks I should also mention that I did remove old paste from those components and reapplied very little of my new thermal paste (Arctic mx4) and now my temps are even worse than before.
Unlikely, many don't even use bearings and are usually sealed. This laptop has a reputation for running really hot..... your fans may just be spinning fast to help cooling.
i just upgraded my ram but now 3 screws wont get back in their place and the laptop doesnt start, do i need to recharge the battery after i reconnect it? please help :(
@@idle314 i used it for 5 years now, and it runs games kinda ok, i played ac unity and i played it in 40-60 fps, fortnite in 160+ fps, csgo in 200+fps, gtav with mods like redux in 60+fps at all times
If it's really tight then you might have to remove the motherboard and set it on something sturdy, then press down hard on the screw as you're turning it. If you try this why the motherboard is in the case, it might cause the motherboard to flex/bend and break a connection. Good luck!
I was having issues with fans spinning up really loud, and eventually one side starting making a whining noise in addition to that. I went in removed the thermal paste and reapplied, unfortunately it’s still spinning up pretty loud and the fan still making the whining noise. I can’t really see any dust anywhere and the fan seems in alignment so I’m not sure if anyone has suggestions?
You could try some canned air into the vents.... the fan may just be going bad. I know this model spins the fans at top speed any time you are stressing the graphics, there have been some cooling issues...
SellBroke thank you, it’s actually a little annoying it just started recently. I used to play wow on it fairly easily. Now just playing osrs (which is a way older game) and I’ve got a jet plane on my hands
SellBroke hey sorry to bother you again, do you think it’s worth grabbing replacement fans on eBay? It’s pretty spotless dust wise. Might grab some better thermal paste at the same time
10:11 you can see the power button there and where its connected UNDER the motherboard. You can switch out the power button easily and detach the ribbon from the power button itself, but if you want to check the ribbon connection at the motherboard you will need to remove more stuff.
Extremely frustrated with this model i have Tuf fx 504gm i7, 1060 model. no use of having power when you cant use them... cant even play CS:GO in basic settings... how can this laptop even exist... i will boycott all asus products in near future.. better to stick with MSI, DELL, ACER.. for gaming...
It seems like there may be an issue with the GPU, the GTX 1060 is supposed to be VR-Ready and capable of running dual 1080p screens at 90FPS. Have you updated your driver or checked the settings? It sounds like the laptop is trying to run the game with the integrated graphics instead of your discreet GTX 1060. A Google search indicates you should be running near 160 FPS with high settings. Definitely check your card out with benchmark software as well to eliminate a software issue.
@@Sellbrokedotcom This laptop has serious thermal throttling issues, and it also has power limit throttling.. the processor max tdp is 25w only. even tried undervolting both cpu and gpu.. it helps only to a certain extent... this laptop has inadequate cooling design...which is why they have restricted processor tdp to just 25w.
Now all I need to do is find a case replacement thank you so so much!

I should also mention that I did remove old paste from those components and reapplied very little of my new thermal paste (Arctic mx4) and now my temps are even worse than before.
Use Thermal Grizzly
Dude I'm trying to remove the heatsink, but my screwdriver doesn't fit. Do you have the screw dimensions or an Amazon link ?

@@jjeeefff did you ever manage to get the temps back down?
@@nikith7224 yes, I just left it as it was, I guess it needed time to set. I'm seeing much better temps now.
can the fans be more dissembled in order to drop oil? because I have sound problem on fans they make lots of noise
Unlikely, many don't even use bearings and are usually sealed. This laptop has a reputation for running really hot..... your fans may just be spinning fast to help cooling.
@@Sellbrokedotcom ah i am not talking about that fast spinning sound, but it is more like the fans are bumping, crashing. there is clicking noise

I’ve accidentally poured water on keyboard of my fx504gm, what are the chances of water getting onto the motherboard?
The chances are high. Pull the keyboard up and see motherboard.

I'm buying this laptop for 350$
Is it value for money?
@@idle314 i used it for 5 years now, and it runs games kinda ok, i played ac unity and i played it in 40-60 fps, fortnite in 160+ fps, csgo in 200+fps, gtav with mods like redux in 60+fps at all times

2 screw of thermal tube is not opening its tight too much how to open?
If it's really tight then you might have to remove the motherboard and set it on something sturdy, then press down hard on the screw as you're turning it. If you try this why the motherboard is in the case, it might cause the motherboard to flex/bend and break a connection. Good luck!
Is this laptop support SATA-lll ssd or nvme ???
Looks like there is an NVMe slot right next to the hard drive, though this laptop did not have one. Check out 3:34
How to disassemble the trackpad?
Just unscrew it from the inside of the palmrest
Many thanks
I cant get a casing for this in my country . 😥
Try eBay.... most sellers ship internationally

Good video. Thanks.
Glad to help, thanks :)
Might grab some better thermal paste at the same time
@@Aqpbtw Its worth a shot.... any unusual fan noise is either dirt or the fan wearing out.
SellBroke I also reduced voltage to cpu and that seems to be doing really well too
My power button not working, the guys suggest to change the keyboard
10:11 you can see the power button there and where its connected UNDER the motherboard. You can switch out the power button easily and detach the ribbon from the power button itself, but if you want to check the ribbon connection at the motherboard you will need to remove more stuff.
@@Sellbrokedotcom thanks for the reply ,so is this possible to replace power button without replacing the whole keyboard?
Where is bluetooth chip??
It may be integrated into the wifi card
Thankyou
I opened mine it wont turn on 😭
Perfect!!!!!!!
God jub man
