One of the most inspiring talks I have seen/heard in a very long time. Lisa Whited's revolutionary ideas are badly needed in a world that is heading blindingly into a brave new future. Every employer--private or public--should watch this talk and act on its premises.
1. If the work “retreat” is not paid, the answer is no. 2. Provide all employees with contracts “right to work” states can’t yank your job out from under you for no reason.
PIR sensors that turn on and off the faucet don't care what color you are they see the temperature difference between you and the basin. That is adjustable. They also require the battery to be replaced from time to time in units that are not hard wired. All the rest of the DEI in this talk makes me realize there is a sickness in the management pool of society. People can not accept that the hardest part of any job is showing up. The rest is in the performance of tasks. Without any of that there is no business.
I work in a clinical research center and the PIR faucets wouldn't work for those with darker skin tones.. I saw it on multiple occasions. 🙄 Darker skin absorbs more infrared radiation, causing the sensor to potentially miss detecting movement from individuals with darker skin tones. On the plus side, though, SkyNet will only be able to find lighter-skinned individuals..
Oh lordy... I used to LOVE TED Talks. I would constantly binge watch and share them with friends. However, the quality of content has dropped off so bad. I can't remember the last time I was able to sit through a full video. Sad.
We don’t need this, we need lower salaries and more efficient employees. Just for your little brain imagine that gouvernement agencies has only 10% controlled time, meaning that employees are only working 10% of the time and it’s getting worst since remote work
It is true that I have highlighted types of work in this video where people have the choice and privilege to work remotely. However, I believe employees in all fields, including those on the frontline, in manufacturing, in service industries, and others, should be listened to by their employers and leaders. Employees themselves are the experts in how to make work better, and they need to be heard.

The workplace is not a place intended to share yourself and be who you want to be. That's what your personal time is and social media by extension. A job is a place of business. And you have to speak and behave a certain way. Of course there are accommodations for certain classes. What's the purpose of a business? To make money.
Maybe the extent to which some companies adhere to this is a problem, ever consider this? Look at how boring and dehumanized the world is compared to 20 or 30 or 40 years ago. Business and money need to take a backseat sometimes, even when the "primary goal" is to make money. Whats the point of it all?
Well I'm glad I was at work listening this on my headset because I would have been pissed if I had wasted my unpaid time listening to this because there was nothing about how to do anything. Do we even have a clue how much work actually has to have people present. I guess it's great idea if you are sitting at a computer but so much of the world doesn't work by sitting behind the computer. Tell us how to make the real world better. Lol
That is so true, Penny - and I believe it is critical in any workplace, in any job, that leaders listen to employees. I believe employees have great ideas on how to improve work conditions and work processes and they need to be heard.
It’s not intended to be a tutorial. If you are trying to use Ted talk videos as instructional tutorials, you’re doing it wrong. It’s informational. It’s useful to comprehend the difference, and use the tools according to their designed function.
@SuGilla the title literally says "how to"... I watched it thinking maybe there'd be some good information there so I can forward this on to my boss. It offered nothing in the way to make a workplace better except to say that we should all be able to work from home. Do you have any clue how few jobs can actually be done from home?
@@pennyrichards8019 Hi Penny - the best way to make a workplace better is to listen to employees - meaning, I believe that employers and business leaders should facilitate sessions and listen to the ideas employees have to make their workplaces better. In my experience, the best ideas come from employees. Working from home is not an option for many, many jobs. However, inviting employees into conversations and asking for their ideas on what could make their experience at work better should, in an ideal world, be available to everyone.
No employer EVER said "bring your whole self to work." Mostly BECAUSE of "that part". Does "that part" directly benefit the companies bottom line? Or is it in fact going to take away from that to placate "that part" of you?

I had an interview for a job as a driver. And they told me I am too smart for the job, they are looking for someone less qualified 😂 what a world 🌎
@@tobiaskrieger9481 I had a similar experience. I was told that they anticipate me quitting for a better job. Or that I will be bored with it.
The modern office is very cold, hot desking further causes isolation. Let us bring plants .not a single person has a plant on their desk where i work.
My office is so awful not even plants would fix it.
I am waiting for connection of my intention. May god bless us.
Pay is more
I hope when we have our new office I will be able to wash my hands

Work from home (WFH) does work in some cases, we seen it during the pandemic.
Just sayin. 💪🏼🤙🏼

3 minutes in and I couldn't take any more. Totally privileged take on minor issues.
These "minor" issues are not minor to the minorities in the workforce.
What you consider minor issues can make or break the mental health of some people.

One can find an alternate employer. It’s a choice. Nobody is forcing you, are they?

She looks like every HR Karen who fired me.
This has nothing to do with people doing the real work, farms, construction, oil fields, plants, or field engr. like me.
All paid labor is work. Grow up
So you are unaware how high-tech farming is these days? Many farmers manage their fields via sensors and robotics right behind their computer screen.
It sounds counter intuitive that organizations should design workplaces by listening to employees
