Fox used Christmas / Holiday lights for the time outs as well as falling, accumulating snow on their scoreboard in 2010. When they had a the score-bar on the top of the screen before that, near Christmas, the snow would accumulate high enough that a snowplow with sleigh bells would zoom across the top of the screen.
I've always loved the late 2000s Fox scoreboard, probably because I began watching football in 2009. The early-mid 2010s Fox scoreboards are also nostalgic (I'm a Vikings fan, so most of our games were on Fox).
Fox to me generally is the better one with scoreboards, the ones used in 2001, 2010, 2014/2016 and 2020/2022 were some of my favorites with 2010 being the best of the bunch, it's a shame they butchered it the following year. CBS ones tend to be boring for me, with my favorites being the 2016 one and 2000 one but barely worth anything to write home about. ESPN's 2018 and 2022 definitely look great. NBCs 2006, 2016 and 2018 to 2021 ones are iconic af. Amazon needs a huge improvement it's so vanilla.
Fox had a really cool one in 2003 that went across the top and only had the logos. Might have been the first to do it that way. Their worst was the mid/late teens when they just had the team names across the bottom of the screen.
For some reason, I liked the mid to late 2000s FOX scoreboard. It was pre time out indicator era, and pretty basic, and I liked how it showed the teams colors for who had the ball.
Also, when I was a boy in the 80s and 90s, NBC was AFC-exclusive, and CBS was NFC-exclusive as well (NBC had interconference AFC at NFC games from time to time, and CBS was vice-versa [NFC at AFC]).
It's funny you said that FOX always has the better picture. Growing up on analog TV (yes, I'm that old), FOX always had the worst signal where I lived, so every game from FOX was covered in static snow. Not until we moved to digital TV and eventually cable that we discovered how clear the FOX picture could be. Also worth mentioning is the blunder of that ESPN scoreboard mentioned starting at 9:09. Originally the down and yards to go was in a yellow font, which lead people to believe that every down had a penalty (because yellow is associated with the ref's penalty flags). After enough feedback from that, ESPN changed the font color to white.
The old CBS one, is kinda what TSN in Canada uses for the Canadian Football League. It kinda goes Tsn logo, team logos and initials with score, quarter game clock, play clock disappears after snap then play clock gets bigger, then the box with down and yards for first down and ball on marker, the last box rotates from yards to go/Flag/FNF on TSN or CFL on TSN. Simple and lots of information on a rotation basis.
If I had to pick my favorite scoreboards from each broadcasting network, they would probably be these ones… CBS: 2009-12 or 2016-20 FOX: 2012-13 or 2020-22 NBC: 2015-17 ESPN: 2023-Present I hated a lot of ESPN’s scoreboards in the past, but I was pleased that they finally made their scoreboard look good beginning in 2019. I still thought it needed improving, and I’m glad ESPN finally made the necessary upgrades to their already-great scoreboard this year.
My ranking: (Per network) CBS: 2009-2015 (Overhead, both were good). TNF (2014-2016) Was also kinda good FOX: 2014-2016. Present graphics kinda look line Soccer graphics idk NBC: 2018-2021 Just pure gold ESPN: 2019-2022
Actually we really do need the record on the scoreboard it enhances the experience a lot IMO, both College & NFL, I gives you all you need to know in 2 seconds, I wish Rugby has it
Cbs also rolled out different theme music that was EXCLUSIVELY for Thursday night and to me it was by far the best out of any network, sadly the Nfl moved Thursday night to fox and then fkd up more by making it exclusively on stream now. Damn the good ole days of the Nfl are really gone guys :(
I wish the NFL would go back to clean scoreboards without using the team record CBS had the best CFB & NFL Scoreboards from 2009-2015 CBS does have next Springs Super Bowl so maybe they will go back to those scoreboards
Alright, I'll share: CBS: 09-12 (though shoutouts to the ones that predate this when CBS would put the 'board on the side of the offense, really liked this touch especially after change of possession when it would flip over) FOX: 06-09 NBC: 19-22 (the long bar with the colors, which even after NBC switched to their '06 MNF ripoff 'board, they kept using this one for their USFL coverage-- I wonder if it'll stay that way) ESPN: 15-18 (the one shown in the video before the weird font one) NFLN/TNF: 17-18 NBC (the one just called disgusting) Wild card pick: 22-Current NFLN (I actually think that one's fire. It's pretty vibrant and actually easier to see for those with smaller displays or impaired vision just because it's a bigger 'board)
The best one today is the current scorebug that NBC uses for Sunday Night Football. It's sharp and clean for high-def, and stays out of the viewers' way. The worst one today is FOX's latest. This scorebug and their previous one look standard-def on a high-def screen and is really distracting. It will be interesting to see what CBS does for the Super Bowl.
Ok. Personally I dont get it with scoreboard rankings. Even though it is what you see the most they should be ranked by quality and other video aspects, such as transitions, Text boxs ect. The Artists dont deserve this little respect (I mean you did this video in powerpoint). Also It is not about how small the scoreboard is. It is about how well they use there space. Aslong as it really does not really disrupt the game a big scoreboard that displays all information neatly is better then a small one that looks bad. Here is my rankings: #1 TNF scoreboard is compact while it ties in with the whole production. Really clean and looks great #2 MNF Even though the scoreboard is big it is easy to read. The visuals though are best in the game and ESPN is always great with that stuff. If the scoreboard was smaller it would be 1st. #3 SNF Everything is great but the darn circle in the middle. The CFB is better because of it. The package is great and looks nice but I do think the one before is better. #4 FOX In SBLIV They introduced player illustrations for touchdowns. It looks great but i dont think that they needed to do a whole brodcast package about comics because It just does not tie in well with football. Also the scoreboard looks like glasses and I cant unsee that. #5 CBS Even though it is the smallest the quality in the whole brodcast is not that good. Some games you can even see the logos not centered or more blurry then the other one. They clearly hired one person to do a few transitions and stuff and called it a day. Poor job. I dont mean anything bad towards you I just dont agree. There is more to it then just graphics and homework should be done before the final rankings. Have a great day.
The best one is the ESPN one currently in use along the bottom. It goes away while the play is ongoing. Anything else about it, or others, is irrelevant. Clear screen = ace up the sleeve.
I like the new scoreboard NBC or whoever, I like the sparkle or twinkle effects they have on the team logo or near it. The colors look good to me, it sounds weird but they should copy EA's madden 09 or i old EA nba games scoreboards. They had the same sparkle effects that always catch you attention, and it just looks pretty lmao. I like the emboldened logos with the glowing matching background colo and the spark effects on it.

Love that scorebug

Easily 2013-2015 CBS, 2012-2013 FOX is super underrated

As nostalgia I love the fox logo from 2010 as I was a little kid around 6 years old brings back memories watching football with my dad
i love the FOX 15-16
Fox early 2000s is my favorite with the laser sound for the score
CBS 2016-2020 was the best
Nah 2013-15 was better
@@pthompson0907that was just amazing

Fox killed it in the mid 2000s

Fox 2020 -2022 was goated but 2023 was the best for me since 2010-2011
ESPN 2018-19 is goated
My ranking: (Per network)
CBS: 2009-2015 (Overhead, both were good). TNF (2014-2016) Was also kinda good
FOX: 2014-2016. Present graphics kinda look line Soccer graphics idk
NBC: 2018-2021 Just pure gold
ESPN: 2019-2022
Fox: 2001/02 had the best scoreboard.
Agreed
My favorite was the CBS scoreboard from like 2004! also Fox from that era too!
The content WE NEED!!
Actually we really do need the record on the scoreboard it enhances the experience a lot IMO, both College & NFL, I gives you all you need to know in 2 seconds, I wish Rugby has it

Hope so it doesn’t look like it change from Super Bowl 55 and 53 seem the same to me
4:20 is 2012-2013

The yard line of line of scrimmage needs to be on all scoreboards. And I’d love live in-game betting odds, which I imagine we will eventually see.
I like the 2010 cbs scoreboard
NBC 2018-2021 is peak
yup
I just want to see the games in 4K
7:00 AYYYEEOOO-! PAUSE!😂😂
If CBS took their current scoreboard, shrunk it like 25%, and put it on top, it would be perfect
Fox 2011 for sure
NBC 2012.
CBS 2013-2015
TNF on nfl network 2011.
ESPN 2013
I like that nbc w the team record
The best nfl scoreboard is the one that’s NOT on my tv!!!!!
Can CBS bring back the 2013-15 scorebug or no?
Not big on the cbs 2013. I don’t like how part of the teams logos are obscured by the curved thing it looks cheap
Haha had no clue they did the leaves on scoreboard thing
Leaves for fall
Snow for winter
Also the timeouts was xmas lights
7:03 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

CBS always has the best scoreboards only bad one they have had was in 1998
Yeah it was HORRIBLE
The best one is the ESPN one currently in use along the bottom. It goes away while the play is ongoing. Anything else about it, or others, is irrelevant. Clear screen = ace up the sleeve.
Amazon Prime’s scoreboard is top tier
Late 2000s cbs
Can we get an amazon prime streaming rant
Do an NFL uniform ranking video
Browns wasn't on snf from 08 to 19
Not a fan of the boxes
I have an idea make everything triangles
