- Time for a little history.
My very first car that I drove to High School was a 1971 Nova. A 6cyl PowerGlide car, light green with green interior. I paid $150 for it, after staring at it each day on the school bus as I rode past it rotting away in a driveway.
Unfortunately, my youth and ignorance ultimately destroyed the car. I ended up scrapping it and parting it out because I couldn’t afford to fix the body.
Vicki and I bought a 1978 Malibu, that Vicki drove daily back in 1991. But, its original 305 had lifter problems, valve seal problems, and a tremendous lack of power.
2-3 years later, I began to really miss my Nova, and Vicki was interested in something more suitable to winter weather. So she ended up with a 4x4 S-10 Blazer, and we traded her mint 78 Malibu for the Nova I own today as a roller.
I fixed it up the best I could with the help of friends and family. But once Vicki and I had Billy in 1996, we had purchased our first house and money was extremely tight.
I raced the Nova for over 10 years but it never got the attention it deserved. The body began to fall apart, and I couldn’t stand to look at it.
We’ve brought it back to life a couple times as a test bed for engines and different combinations, but for the most part it’s been left parked out back under the lean to behind the barn.
I was shocked to learn, my kids had a plan to take it to @HouseofPearls this week.

Exactly. I hate that the internet has convinced everyone that they need 1500hp big block street cars when they definitely can't handle it and even 300-400whp can be more than enough for some fun and can still get you into tons of trouble.

Agreed, these three cars and now actually the Falcon have become the mechanical face of SRC & OM Garage. Now that the Falcon is doing more Pure Street class and hopefully Power Tour, she needs a refreshing of paint in and outside. hance

House or pearls has to be the best all around bang for your buck shop in the world I’ve ever seen anyone any age that puts their heart and soul into their work I love how great they do I told my wife if I was 10 years younger I’d check how decent their pay is and would be willing to check it out and I’ve been at my job 15 yrs and I love it but what they do is special and takes all around dedication from the top to bottom I love Bill,Billy and all of their family and friends that are like family

All novas will always have my heart, my grandmother willed me one that I couldn’t afford to keep! Some day some how I will own another one. Although it won’t be hers, we both loved those years like you and Billy have! Seeing you and Billy bond over y’all’s make want one so bad for me and my Son.

This reminded me of high school in a one-red-light, small town in central Alabama in the late 80s. There were 4 of us close friends that hung out together. We were all poor and had to make our own money to fix up what we drove. I had a black 55 Chevy PU with 327 out of 69 Stingray Vet. My other 3 friends drove a (1) 1969 white with black pinstripes Chev Chevelle SS. (2) 1970 Chev Chevelle Malibu. (3) 1978 chev camaro.
We all ended up with sharp or cool, sick rides by doing the work ourselves and finding someone to spray them at a price we could afford working mowing grass and loading and stacking square balls of hay in the barns. It made us so much more appreciative of what we had in the end. I would not change any of it if I could.

Thank goodness the nova is getting some TLC!! I love that car and the color. I would have sold both the Malibu and the monte Carlo just to put the money in that nova. I just love the look of that car so much better. I'm so excited to see that OG car back!!

Ive told you this before Bill but im Nostalgic for a Marimba Red 1964 Pontiac Lemans my dads car he bought for 75 bucks with all forward gear out of it. He drove it 9miles home in reverse. Paid 50 for a trans out of a Gto. Ended up running it off a bridge. Ive always wanted to build him one but he passed in 2014. After i eventually finish my c10 and sell it im gonna do my very best to find one. Pole Barn Garage just got one that really brought a tear yo my eye.
I want to do something similar for my dad. When he was fresh out of the army, he bought a brand new 1966 Mustang GT coupe for $2600. He ended up trading it in for a new 1971 Toyota Celica. I love imports and domestics so I would've been fine with with either, but it would be awesome to restore his first car, the mustang and take him for a cruise before it's too late. Sadly, he developed dementia a couple years back plus the salty air here in Hawaii is hell on cars and I'm not currently in a good enough financial situation to be able to dump a bunch of money on searching for the car and having it restored if it's not completely rusted into nothing, but a guy can hope that it's still salvageable because that's about all I can do for now.

💥💥💥 One of my FAVORITE aspects of this channel is how Bill shows the relationships he has built over time. From performance parts companies, replacement parts companies, customers, friends, you name it...The fact that Bill "brings us along on the ride" step by step through each project and process is what retains my attention. I along with many others are able to live out our "racing" through Bill and his family. I've been a viewer since day one, and it's only gotten bigger and BETTER with time. Keep it up Bill, you're very good at what you do. I can't imagine the stress day to day to film and edit and produce these videos. But I'm thankful for your effort. Street Racing Channel/The Old Man's Garage/Gen 2 Garage have become my favorite channels and the only ones I wait until I'm nice and comfortable to watch their newest video. One good thing about living here in Hawaii is that even though Bill uploads a little late at night for most of y'all, it's still super early here lol

Bill that 55 from what I can tell looks straighter than a new one did back in 55 them kids along with the parts from golden star have a awesome job,the fact that your doing this for your dad and Billy is doing this for you tells me that the apple didn't fall to far from the tree. The color that was picked out for the nova is my favorite color it's such a beautiful color. Mark having instruction on how to install a flywheel was hilarious and for uncle bucko not to blame the ground hog that alone was hilarious as well. I can't wait to see the nova finished not only it's going to look beautiful it will be wicked fast with the big block. God bless and as always be safe.

Just had to leave a comment saying that you're a solid dude and the best kind of friend a guy could ask for. Sadly for me, none of my best friends are into cars anymore and I don't want kids so If I ever build myself something nice, I won't have anyone to pass it on to. The good thing is a shitload of them have kids and they all love me, so I'm gonna corrupt them and teach them that cars are fun and awesome and maybe one or more of them can get one of my cars after I die . Plus I can use them as cheap labor and their tiny hands can get into places mine can't. I'm sure my friends will be happy to have some peace and quiet for a day or two and their kids get to hang out with their favorite cool uncle lol
