This piece has a cold feel as in the time it was written and performed in 1891 it was a sort of protest against Russias continued interference in Finland. This was written by Jean Sibelius as part of opus 26 part of a work called ‘Finlandia’. This piece has similarities to an earlier piece called the bells of Konevista. Due to increasing censorship from Russia the piece had to be performed under different names. Over time the title and lyrics were adopted to be sung as a hymn titled “I Sought The Lord, And Afterward I Knew; Be Still, My Soul”. Taryn has done a masterful job in using the violin to capture the cold nature of the feelings of that time and I believe the pianos harsher tone gives some homage to the original work the bells of Konevista. Overall an excellent work Taryn, truly masterful.

Lyrics in finnish go "oh finland your day is dawning, threat of night has been vanished and the morning lark is singing amidst the brightness as if the roof of heavens would sing. Powers of night are won by light of morning. Your day begins oh land of birth" so this dark tone gives me a sensaation as if the war would have been lost completely
