Hi guys! Sorry for the long wait since our last video. We've been busy recording tons of new stuff and we're excited to share it all with you very soon! Some of you know that we occasionally play for weddings. As you can imagine, we get a lot of requests for Canon in D, and we discovered that there were no good arrangements available anywhere for piano and cello! Hard to believe given its popularity. So we decided to make our own! We tried to stick as closely to the original as possible (which was written for three violins and basso continuo), and we like to perform it *not* at a snail's pace so the bride can actually make it down the aisle without putting everyone to sleep. 🙊(Yeah, we said it! Nobody likes a slow processional!) Also, the number one complaint about this piece from cellists is always how booooring it is to play because they literally have to play the same 8 bass notes over and over for the entire piece. Problem solved with this arrangement because the cello never has to play the bass! 🙌(The piano does, but we get lots of other fun stuff too so it's ok!) So for all you musicians out there playing weddings, we hope you enjoy playing this arrangement a little more than the ones you were used to...You can get it from www.musicnotes.com. 😊Be sure to let us know in the comments if you do!
Congratulations on your beautiful arrangement and the originality portrayed by both of you in this popular Canon. There were some glorious harmonies and NOT a boring note in any part (which, as you rightly say, could well have happened!). Patrick's Cello playing was superb and, as always, Marnie your piano collaboration was also superb. Bravo and many thanks to you both with best wishes and love from Mary, Dublin, Ireland xxx
PS Forgot to say that I LOVE your setting! Also, I've listened again and I particularly love the harmonies and phrasing at 2.30; 3.03 and 4.25 .... Well Done on a Great Arrangement. Mary, Dublin Ireland xxx
This music is centuries old. Johann pachelbel never knew that 339 years later, people would hear his song wirelessly on handheld fast electronic calculating machines. He has gained immortality through his work.
A string ensemble played this at my wedding on April 4, 1987.....and every time I hear it, I am reminded of the absolute joy I felt when I saw my Prince standing at the altar as I walked to him to become his wife ❤ My beloved went to be with the angels on January 9, 2020, thus our 47 years together have given me the sweetest memories

.....cannon d 1680's piece of art. I showed this to my 104 year old grandma and she started talking about when she remembered my grandpa playing this song in their honeymoon at the beach. tears in my eye.
This was played at our wedding in 1991 by a live string quartet. My dad died five years earlier and my wife never had a chance to meet him. I was so emotional seeing this played live, seeing my beautiful wife walk down the isle and missing my dad that I cried all the way through the wedding vows. I turned around and my mom was all alone. Music touches the heart, it touches the soul. We are still happily married. Bless all that are touched by this beautiful piece. Greetings from Tennessee
My favorite song ever written. I first heard it played by a string quartet during a midnight Christmas Eve service. That was in 1977. I was 16 years old. When the piece finished, everyone sat in silence, then the church chimes rang 12 times for midnight. Absolutely magical and other worldly. I felt like I had a glimpse of heaven on earth for a brief moment.
I am from Cape Town.. South Africa...my grandma died...and listening to this makes tears flow non stop listening to this...Its like a piece composed in heaven...beyond word...thanks Pachelbel

Wow. Now I'm explaining compliments? Ok.... Here goes. I am 64 yrs old. I have heard this song all of my life and I love it! I grew up in a family of musicians. My grandma was a piano teacher. In my opinion, "Canon" is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. I have saved several variations of Canon, on different instruments, because I love every interpretation of it. Brooklyn Duo's performance is one of my favorites. It is so exquisite, so lovingly executed that I have actually wept. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that so many other people are just as enamored with this piece, as I am. How could anyone listen to something so simplistically beautiful and have a negative reaction to it? I hope that this clears up any confusion without hurting anyone's feelings. I truly believe that Pachelbel received this music as a Divine Download. He left a gift that is still beloved, after 400 yrs. Amazing.
Mohan Sandal As a classically trained musician myself I appreciate classical , baroque and romantic very much but you must understand that this is very much an incredibly overplayed piece and I thought that even the non-musicians would be sick of it now as I certainly am but apparently you are not and that is fine . There was no need to snap back telling me I have 'no taste in music' it was rude and I'm sure you would never say that to a person in real life , so please don't online .
I am a man. I heard Canon in D many times before, but this version almost made me cry when the first time I was listening to it. So beautiful. Thank you.
I'm 22 and had, and still have to a degree no real taste in this kind of classical music. But this particular one gave me an unexpected feeling of rejoice and bliss that's indescribable, brought me to tears hearing this for the first time too.
Most beautiful version of the Canon I’ve ever heard. Love watching you. My husband passed away almost a year ago now, my eyes well up every time I hear this song, such great memories with my love. Thank you
That’s why I love classical music. It doesn’t need words to convict the heart and the soul and the mind. It’s just free flowing and has the effects of both longing and relevancy.
During this pandemic period, listening to this music soothes the heart. In France, as in the whole world we suffer from an invisible evil, a virus which kills thousands of people ... we must think back to a better one for tomorrow, more united, more ecological and more human ... this music is inspiring so that we can build the world of tomorrow together. Thank you for giving us hope.
My parents used to play this song in my room when I was a baby and I’d fall asleep to it (around 2-4 years old) Years later I picked up piano as a random hobby and got pretty good at it. One day came across this song and it was the easiest song I’ve ever learned (despite it not being easy) and I never really figured out why it made me feel so warm to play it and hear it until one day my mom heard me play it and told me they’d play it for me to help me fall asleep. I guess it was so deep in my subconscious that it came right back up when I re listened. Just couldn’t figure out why I loved it so much.
My wife and I have been married almost 16 years. We had Canon in D as our wedding song and it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. You two played a MAGNIFICENT rendition. It's played so beautifully! Thank you so much for making me blubber like fool when I heard this! :)
My father died after months of a prostrate cancer. My depression was terrible. I played this music on my piano. Alone. It was a treatement for my soul. Thank you Brooklyn Duo for reminding me the healing power of the music.
I swear, musicians are God’s gift to the world, the balm to heal us from all the pain and destruction that is our daily existence. God bless all of you.
Hi Brooklyn Duo. I just want to thank you deeply for creating this version. I used it on my wedding day when my wife walked down the isle. 10 months later i used it to make our new born fall asleep. Thank you so much
This does something to my soul when I listen to you both play this. I don’t know whether to smile in happiness or cry. It illicits such strong emotions that go both ways. It’s both mournful and deeply joyous. I can’t explain it better than that. It breaks my heart and uplifts it at the same time.
Every time I think that, I listen to one of the others and they're all so hauntingly beautiful, it's hard to imagine this song sounding bad no matter what it's played on.
This is one of the most beautiful arrangements of Canon in D Ive ever heard. The musicianship is remarkable and beyond words. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
Every single arpeggiated chord drives you closer to crying. Then the string and the higher piano part just compliment it. Then the string starts to become the star and the melody that develops is tear evoking
I usually don’t comment much but I have to say this is one of the BEST versions of Canon that I’ve heard. It’s absolutely beautiful and so calming to listen to. My baby nephew falls asleep in seconds to this. Keep making beautiful music!!
I cannot put into words...this is simply "Heavenly". I was transformed to every beautiful and sad moment in my life. The birth of my son, the death of my parents..You have encapsulated all of it with your stunningly beautiful piece. Thank you thank you thank you ,❤️
As a cello player I am very happy to see the cello playing the melody because I feel as if us cello players with the prettier instrument gets stuck behind everyone else and we rarely get melody. Glad to see that is cellist finally get a time to prove that we are more than that.
Cello always has been and always will be one of my favorite instrument. It is so soothing, beautiful and profound. It may sounds cliche as hell but it's the first time I've heard the Cello suite n1 by Bach that I fell in love with it. It never left me since. But I feel you, it's nice to hear the cello as the star of the piece :D I'm a (mediocre) clarinette player so my instrument doesn't have a great exposure either ahah.
My father walked me down the aisle to this almost 14 years ago and he and I both bawled like a baby. This song pulls at my heart strings in a way I can’t explain. My father is no longer with us, but every time I hear Canon in D I close my eyes and I can picture my arm in his as he gave me away to my husband. You guys are just perfection.
We used this song in our wedding also. That was 27 years ago & everytime I hear it, it takes me back to our wedding day when my father in law gave his daughter away to me & we became man & wife.
Pareil j'ai utilisé cette musique pour mon mariage il y a 2 ans ça était intense, cette musique donne des frissons à chaque fois que je l'écoute, elle est tout simplement magnifique.
When I went to daycare when I was younger and we had nap time, this was one of the songs that we were played to fall asleep to. In recent months, I finally found out the name of the piece and have been obsessed with it ever since. I am now 12 (yes I know I’m young) years old and staying home sick, listening to this while attempting to catch some sleep. Thank you.
Me too, but I'm almost 13 next 3 months. At first, I usually listen to this song when I go to bed but now when I feel bad or happy. I'm sick too, hope you get well soon. 🙂
Our oldest daughter was married in September. We hired the harpist from the N.C. Symphony to play at her wedding and reception. I have to admit that part of her wedding was MY DREAM . This song was played to perfection ; our daughter was so pleased. It was the perfect touch.
Son las 12:33 AM hace frío y me tomo una leche calientita y he puesto esta melodía 🎶 🎼 y pienso en lo hermoso que fue este año, gracias Dios por tanto ♥️
Anyone just listening and scrolling down the comments? I'm a learning how to play violin and i will play this song with no error intill my life ends. God bless you on your amazing taste of music.
You know what, ironically I am learning to play violin to and I have been practicing canon in d. so as a fellow violin apprentice I wish you the best of luck my friend
I too, just took up the violin after hearing such beauty. I don't know how much success I will have because the violin is a difficult instrument to play but I want to say before I die that I tied .
I married my wife to this song. My dearest wife. The mother of my 2 wonderful children. I love her, the day was perfect. The song has been with me all my life. It's simply the best.
I got a baby daughter with 6-months old. Since my wife was pregnant in the very beginning I use to put this version of yours to feel her inside the belly. Today is the only way she falls in sleep. Sleeping with this beautiful version of yours. Thank you very much for this precious and to be part of our life through the music. Luisa loves it 👧🏻
This calms me during depressing time of 2020. There are so many things going on and I hope everyone is okay. We will make it through. There will be a time that we will all be proud of ourselves for surviving this crisis. Just hold on guys and cheers! God bless us all 🙏🏼

A beautiful melody and harmony. A balance between strings. A coming together of two couples, where their love transcends time. Canon in D is a representation of this beauty. God bless everyone and the legacy of Pachelbel rest in everyone's happiest day!
I wonder of out of the 104 million views if about 2 million was just me!!! I'm obsessed with this version....this song...the love I wish for is tattooed in every music note I hear, if that makes sense.....I cry every single solitary time I play it....If I ever get MARRIED, this will be the ONLY song played in the church when I walk down the aisle! It means so much to me! ❤
I listen to this video every day post work before my sleep. My life has been difficult past several years. This specific piece and the version bring me the intense goosebumps every day. Thank you so much.
I have known this Canon for many years, and it never fails to overwhelm me emotionally. I don't know why, It just DOES. It is sad, yet raises your emotions to a level I just cannot explain. Someone, not me, referred to Pachelbel's Canon as "Elegant". I think that is the perfect word for this masterpiece. Thank you for a wonderful rendition.
ALL types of artists* Actually art is such a broad term I have mad respect for every single artists out there and I hope to become one which is my long term high standard goal for my life
I play 8 instruments and have for 10 years going on 11 music is a huge passion of mine when I play I put my passion and emotions into the music to hopefully make the other person feel my emotions through the music
I’m a huge old school rock guy (Led Zeppelin, Rush, etc…) But Pachebel’s Canon in D remains one of my all time favorite songs, this classical rendition by Brooklyn Duo is absolutely stunning. You can”feel” the music as they are playing. Absolutely Incredible!
❤❤ gave me chills listening ... I'm profoundly deaf ... I hear music based on memories. And this goes beyond. Love ❤️ 😍 💖 this. THANK YOU and God bless you both ❤❤
The players and the instruments are stupendous. They interpret with sensibility and spirituality this apparently simplistic composition which vibrate in our minds a long time after the cords came back still. Bravo and all the best !
I have loved this song ever since I was a child. It brings back so many good memories. This version of the song made me cry tears because of how beautiful it was. This is one of the reasons that I love music, especially this genre, and I will continue to play piano until the day I die. Hopefully one day, I can have this song play at my wedding. You two are so talented and I have a hug respect for your career, it's not always easy, but in the end it's so enjoyable. The effect that music has on people is amazing. Great job you two!!! Have a wonderful day! I hope you get to see this! It would mean so much to me!
I took up the violin for the first time in my life after hearing this composition. It was played at our wedding on a harp. Would have liked to had the Brooklyn Duo play there, but alas not possible at the time
The first time I heard canon in D was in the princess diaries 2 and ever since I knew that this was the song I wanted for my wedding. The day of my wedding I was filled with love and happiness, when the music started playing I took a few deep breaths and once the cello started playing the double doors opened to a beautiful outdoor ceremony and my father walked me down the aisle to the love of my life ❤️
Such a beautiful arrangement of one of the most beautiful of pachelbel’s compositions. Played from the heart without the arrogance of so many classical music artists. A true pleasure to watch you get swept away by it’s beauty. Love the music, how you arrange it, where you play it and what beautiful people you both are both inside and out.
This is so beautiful. My parents had this song at their wedding. And in less than two weeks, I'll be using this version of this song for my wedding. Thank you so much!

I am a man. I heard Canon in D many times before, but this version almost made me cry when the first time I was listening to it. So beautiful. Thank you.
RIP, makes me cry for the people who think its good
This is beautiful I agree 💯
I'm 22 and had, and still have to a degree no real taste in this kind of classical music. But this particular one gave me an unexpected feeling of rejoice and bliss that's indescribable, brought me to tears hearing this for the first time too.
I am a man.
yes, so beautiful 🙌
This makes me long for a place I’ve never been to, a thing I’ve never grasped, a sight I’ve never seen. Beautiful 😢
Actually your comment is quite beautiful.

Very true, you have a way with words.
If it’s not baroque, don’t fix it.

Absolutely my Friend. =)
Best comment ever! Be safe!!!
I love the eye contact between the pianist and the cellist. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
I'm curious, are you male or female?
That’s beautiful

My wife and I have been married almost 16 years. We had Canon in D as our wedding song and it still brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. You two played a MAGNIFICENT rendition. It's played so beautifully! Thank you so much for making me blubber like fool when I heard this! :)

Most people had canon in D as their wedding. They just added some lyrics and called it Beautiful in white 😂
Imagine having them play at your wedding!
My church entrance at my wedding 28 years ago. It still gives me goose bumps. A classic, timeless.

My father died after months of a prostrate cancer. My depression was terrible. I played this music on my piano. Alone. It was a treatement for my soul. Thank you Brooklyn Duo for reminding me the healing power of the music.

I'll send you love, I hope you're feeling better by now 🙂

Hi Brooklyn Duo. I just want to thank you deeply for creating this version. I used it on my wedding day when my wife walked down the isle. 10 months later i used it to make our new born fall asleep. Thank you so much

This does something to my soul when I listen to you both play this. I don’t know whether to smile in happiness or cry. It illicits such strong emotions that go both ways. It’s both mournful and deeply joyous. I can’t explain it better than that. It breaks my heart and uplifts it at the same time.
Usually one of the most boring pieces for the Cellist, refreshing to see an arrangement that brings it to life. Beautiful.
Had the pleasure of my wife walking down the aisle to this stunning piece of music back in August. Will always hold a place in both our hearts
This may be the most beautiful version I've ever heard of this piece
Every time I think that, I listen to one of the others and they're all so hauntingly beautiful, it's hard to imagine this song sounding bad no matter what it's played on.
I agree, wholeheartedly! It's stunningly beautiful. ❤
these are 2 of my favorite instruments so... same
This is one of the most beautiful arrangements of Canon in D Ive ever heard. The musicianship is remarkable and beyond words. Thank you for sharing this with the world.
These guys are not playing with their instruments, they're playing with their souls ❤

Every single arpeggiated chord drives you closer to crying.
Then the string and the higher piano part just compliment it.
Then the string starts to become the star and the melody that develops is tear evoking
You can’t tell me that the cello and piano weren’t made for each other! This is combination of happy and a little sad❤❤❤
This version brings so much joy to my heart as someone who suffers from Depression and PTSD. I hope to get married to this one day ❤
It is PERFECTION.
I usually don’t comment much but I have to say this is one of the BEST versions of Canon that I’ve heard. It’s absolutely beautiful and so calming to listen to. My baby nephew falls asleep in seconds to this. Keep making beautiful music!!
I have listened to it more times than I can recount

this is the first variation i've heard that had the cello take the lead. and it's just *BEAUTIFUL*
Probably revenge against the actual cello part which is nothing but quarter notes the whole song.
@@remyrising It is more humane to use a pianist for the bass since they can do something else in addition.
I cannot put into words...this is simply "Heavenly". I was transformed to every beautiful and sad moment in my life. The birth of my son, the death of my parents..You have encapsulated all of it with your stunningly beautiful piece. Thank you thank you thank you ,❤️

I've listened to this 4:38 masterpiece dozens of times!
It makes my heart leap with joy ! Thank you, Brooklyn duo. God bless
As a cello player I am very happy to see the cello playing the melody because I feel as if us cello players with the prettier instrument gets stuck behind everyone else and we rarely get melody. Glad to see that is cellist finally get a time to prove that we are more than that.
Coda S. So true
100% agree
Same!!! I'm a young cello player and I think its time for a less traditional approach about who gets to play the melody
Try playing viola!
At least your not a viola
My father walked me down the aisle to this almost 14 years ago and he and I both bawled like a baby. This song pulls at my heart strings in a way I can’t explain. My father is no longer with us, but every time I hear Canon in D I close my eyes and I can picture my arm in his as he gave me away to my husband.
You guys are just perfection.
We used this song in our wedding also. That was 27 years ago & everytime I hear it, it takes me back to our wedding day when my father in law gave his daughter away to me & we became man & wife.

The first time I heard canon in D was in the princess diaries 2 and ever since I knew that this was the song I wanted for my wedding.
