That's some trip Rory!! You look amazingly un "travelworn" at the end ha ha. Also, considering it is a Friday the 158 to Thurso looks very empty! Hope you enjoyed your visit.
Hello Rory, your videos get better and better, really interesting and wonderful to watch with so much beautiful scenery. you were lucky with the weather up there. good for you. Thanks a lot.
Another well composed video to my favourite part of the UK with amazing scenery. I very much like the historical info you provide as well...not been to Thurso for many years so must try and get back there sometime. Also the notes at the end are a good idea... idea pinched from Steve Marsh's videos eh ??? Even so I do like that as it allows you time to study the info especially prices etc...
Great video! I also went to that pizza express in Inverness! That service to Wick is beautiful. I stayed in the Premier Inn: Thurso and saw your exact service from my hotel
Here's a suggestion for you! As UK citizens don't need a Passport to visit the Irish Republic, why not buy yourself a GBP 57:50 single Rail and Sail ticket (Route "Irish Ferries") from Stamford to Dublin via Holyhead, spend a day or two exploring this vibrant and cosmopolitan city, and then travel First Class on the international "Enterprise" train on its two-hour journey up the east coast to Belfast? You could then sail and rail in reverse, taking a Stena Line ferry from the Northern Irish capital to Birkenhead and then catching a train (or two) from Birkenhead back home to Stamford!
What an amazing idea! This is definitely something I would love to do, so I've added it to my little notebook of suggestions and hopefully will be able to do it sometime in the near future!
Thanks Rory, That's a great journey. Nice memories of my trip from the West Midlands to Wick in 2019 😊 I was very impressed with all the Scotrail Staff and Trains
Lucky! Getting your connection at Edinbro with seconds to spare! On most of my train trips there, I've been held somewhere to the East of the station for around 10 mins, even if running late! Late running and other issues seem so endemic that I'd never rely on a connection with less than an hours gap, unless there was no choice, or good alternatives in case of failure. But I'm obviously more pessimistic than you!
We were very lucky! I would usually keep to the safe side like you and give at least an hours connection time but due to the off-peak ticket times that was the earliest LNER train we could get!
25 years ago now, but my then gf used to get the daily train from Preston to Brighton, which had started in Edina, bc she didn't want to faff around in London. You could smoke back then though.
Scotrails are doing away with the hsts soon :( i can see why age wise but i doubt the replacements will be as comfortable no matter what they're saying in the press! lol
Living in Manchester 23 years and preferring to go “SailRail” via Holyhead to visit family in Ireland near Dublin, the U.K. railways are not fit for purpose - what’s really needed is an external company from the far east (like China, Japan or Taiwan) to be given direct and complete control by the U.K. government, relevant laws passed in Parliament and all other U.K. rail bodies abolished, no interference allowed, no rail strikes allowed, their being given set annual amounts per year (performance related) to improve the railways for at least 30 years, to get rail fares down and standards of service up, rail projects completed in half the time and for half the costs, all profits invested back into the railways

I think I’ve gotten used to spending all day on trains 🤣
Brilliant video and beautiful scenery, hope all is well, take care

Thank you! An idea taken from the best! I think it is a good place to add that extra detail you wouldn't otherwise get.
Big step up at 2:04. I wonder how many accidents these cause?
Nicely made video
Brilliant video again Rory. I hope your mum likes train travel as much as you do. She should give us a wave.
Epic trip, and lovely views as the Sun set. To do it all in one go was an achievement.
It was certainly tiring towards the end!
That note on the Inter7City first class is very true. With it being so cheap it gets very busy and is tricky to get a seat as a group
I was surprised when we had a look and there was almost no space left! Luckily the standard class seats are pretty comfortable for the long journey!
Thank you for the great trip to Scotland. An excellent commentary by a budding Portillo of the future.
Thank you!
Great video Rory, love the 7city HST and Thurso is on my list to get to
As always, another wonderful video and commentary. Look forward to the next trip.
Awesome relaxing video, great editing and a backing track to match the scenery. Thanks for sharing Rory 👌
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video, and thankfully the Scottish weather played its part Rory.😀🏴👏🚂
Great video! I also went to that pizza express in Inverness! That service to Wick is beautiful. I stayed in the Premier Inn: Thurso and saw your exact service from my hotel
We stayed in the Premier Inn as well, it's really convenient being right next to the train station!

Great video Rory. Well pit together and informative
Love the scotrail class 158 express sprinters aound mint
I'd have sent the pizza back with a comment about it being rather well done....
Nicely made video
Thank you for that. Most enjoyable. The trains were pretty much on time - hardly a cause for great national shame.
Thank you! Totally agree with you, and there are always alternative routes to get to your destination.
LNER still have buffet cars ? GWR have a trolley its rubbish lol
GWR certainly need to improve their catering on longer-distance trains

Try to avoid traveling on a Friday as its the most expensive day of the week. Nice video though.
Thanks for the tip!

I totally concur but doubt Mick Lynch would.🙄
Good video Rory always like your videos inverness always hold that 1831 service if the 1826 train arrival from. Glasgow Queen Street is late
I think something radical definitely needs to be done, especially with the prices being so high!
