    Your videos are great and I reckon this information just wasnt out when you made it so I thought I would add it.
    AP2.0 - you made an error. The AP 2.0 for those who purchased the full self driving option on AP2.0 cars, Tesla will, for free, upgrade you to the Tesla FSD (3.0) computer. The cameras are NOT monochrome and when upgraded to 3.0 FSD computer, you will be able to use not only Sentry mode recording but also Tesla Dashcam recordings (in colour). This is irrespective of whether or not you upgrade to MCU2. My 2017 P100DL has FSD option paid for and I'm getting my FSD 3.0 upgrade next week. I have not decided yet whether or not I will get MCU2. Perhaps when my warranty runs out I will...but to be honest i dont find the computer that slow and I also dont care about netflix or youtube in the car.

  • @StevenPeeters
    @StevenPeeters 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I disagree that HW2 cannot be upgraded. People (like me) have bought the FSD feature a long time ago and tesla has to make that promise work as it is legally binding. So, they will upgrade the FSD computer and if necessary also the MCU1 and cameras. They have no choice in this matter

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Steven, thanks chiming in. It's quite alright to disagree, but as we said in the video "as of this video" there is no conclusive evidence that HW2.0 can be upgraded as nobody who has a HW2.0 car has been upgraded. That doesn't mean, it is impossible, and doesn't mean that Tesla won't find a solution, it just mean right now as of this video there isn't a path to upgrade. Tesla could reveal a solution next week that could work.

    I have August-2018 Model S 100D with enhanced Autopilot , I'm planning to upgrade from MCU2.5 to MCU3 + Radio that is going to cost 3000$. They didn't mention anything about upgrading the Cameras (I don't have FSD). They encourage me with this investment to benefit from a much better/faster CPU & screen performance , stronger LTE signal. My ask is , was this a wise move ? How to benefit from MCU3 , is it true if I subscribe to FSD then they will upgrade all the cameras ?

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a great investment if you plan on keeping the car for a few years. You'll have a faster touchscreen and benefit from SOME of the latest software features. More importantly you won't have to worry about your cars currently MCU getting slow and rebooting often. If you subscribe to FSD Beta they may not have to upgrade the cameras as I think they figured a way around that.

    I have two vehicles. I have a Model S with AP2.0 that is on the list for FSD (2.0 to 3.0 retrofit upgrade), and a Model 3 that had AP 2.5 and was upgraded to FSD (AP2.5 to 3.0 retrofit). I purchased FSD with my 2017 Model X AP 2.0/MCU 1. I had reached out to Tesla asking if an upgrade to AP 2.5 and/or MCU 2 would be necessary, and they said no. Only a swap out of the AP computer for the FSD computer would be necessary.
    I'm curious about where you got your info about MCU 1 and AP 2.0 not being eligible?

      We've done a fair bit of research, but feel free to do your own due diligence. There are tons of discussion and debate online about this topic so my so our sources range from enthusiasts and Tesla inside sources. Perhaps the rep you spoke to thought you had 2.5+MCU2 but if it's not that there is more work than swapping out the computer. We suspect Tesla is buying time to come up with a cost effective solution for MCU1 owners.

    So this is why you should lease a Tesla because the hardware can't keep up with the software. Tesla people don't talk much about this. This is not like a gas engine where it can last 10-15 years.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a fair point, leasing is def the way to go IF you want to keep up with the latest and greatest. That said if you buy and intend to keep for 8+ years you certainly can it's just a matter of cost vs value at that point and whether it makes sense to buy a new car.

    According to a recent tweet from @elonmusk on December 18, 2019, "MCU (infotainment computer) upgrade not recommended imo. Isn’t needed for full self-driving & cost is ~$2k for limited entertainment improvements." See twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1207416732609990656. So it would appear that Models S/X with MCU1 and AP2.0/2.5 hardware can indeed be upgraded to AP3.0 hardware without upgrading to MCU2.

    Thanks for clarifying this! I'm a Jan 2017 Model X so it looks like I may be screwed. Hoping they come up with a solution but it sounds like it's a nightmare--new cameras, new computers, new wiring etc. I would consider a discount on a new Tesla for the amount I paid for FSD at the time, with the FSD option thrown in for free, as this essentially discounts a new car by about $15,000 and costs them nothing.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed they've made some questionable choices in hardware. However, they are pioneering in an area nobody else has so they are figuring it out as they go along. This is the cost of innovation, and at the time when they built your 2017 75D they thought it had everything needed to get to FSD. That said let's give them a chance to see if they can possibly figure out a way to retrofit all applicable cars with HW2 with new capabilities.

      Thanks for the comment and it's totally fine to ask questions. Our info is vetted from employees and owner enthusiasts alike. That said, if you bought a Model 3 in June 2019 it is possible that it was built earlier than April 2019 which would mean you have hardware 2.5. If you have update 2019.40 or higher and you see cones then you have HW3, if you have that software or later and don't see cones you have 2.5.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question, my best guess is that if you buy FSD and have the hardware installed then FSD stays with the vehicle open change of ownership. If you purchased FSD and have not had the hardware installed it should still be able to be installed after change of ownership, but that will be up to Teslas discretion. Bottom line you should look to get the hardware upgrade before selling to you can add that cost to the price of the vehicle 😉

The invite specified that the price would increase on August 16th, but did not say how much the increase would be. I suppose it is now $4,000.

    Thanks for the info, very helpful & explained well. I do have a question...I know I have EAP 2.5 (ECU 2.5) car was built in Dec 2018, How can I check if I have + MCU2 as well? Have the M3PD+ Thank you.

      The easiest way to tell is to see if you have Tesla Theater. If you do you have MCU2 if you don't then you have MCU1. I believe all model 3's have MCU2 so you should be good.

      Yes I do have TESLA theater. Thanks brother. I just can’t see me paying for FSD Bc EAP does the same thing, except showing cones, stop signs, red lights etc...Is it really that much faster computer chip the EAP 2.5? 🤔

    God breakdown on the path to Hardware 3.0. So... those of us on the East coast will be the late comers, right? In addition, this means that if you are a model 3 owner on the East coast, you have the longest wait.

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The example I gave was just the order, but they started this since September and east coast started in October hence how we got ours. Group 1 east coast should be done end of Nov then on to the others. So model 3 east coast should be Dec or Jan....our best guess though

      Don't worry European and many other countries will probably have much longer wait then anyone in the US.

    When mcu 2 came out I recall Tesla saying that you could upgrade at a cost. Am I confusing this with something else?

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No you're right but we have not seen this yet. As far as we know, nobody has upgraded from MCU1 to MCU2 so it seems Tesla ran into an issue upgrading after making that statement.

      Keep an eye on this page: www.tesla.com/support/infotainment
      Having a newer MCU is a better experience over MCU1 which isn't HW3 but better nonetheless.

    Wait did you say MCU 1 with hardware 2.5 is not able to get hardware 3?

    • @BlackTesla
      @BlackTesla  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely didnt say that. They definitely will get upgraded but not at the moment since Hardware 3 isn't compatible with MCU1 and there isn't a known path to upgrade MCU1 to MCU2 "yet". Hang tight, Tesla will provide and path.

    This is an absolute outrage! What about those of us that paid for Full Self Driving and have Hardware 2?
    As always, thanks for the video though!

      Don't get upset just yet, we've made an emphasis to say "as of this video". Tesla could change something next week and make it a reality. Let's see what they can do and we suspect that come Q1 2020 they will have a solution for HW2.

      FSD 2.0 cars get a FREE upgrade to 3.0 (FSD computer), irrespective of whether or not they have MCU 1 or have upgraded to MCU2.
      MCU has NOTHING to do with autopilot, only the visualizations of the autopilot software. So it is not a limiting factor.

    Thank you. Thank you for taking the time and answering!!! Am I not owed Hardware V 3.0 or, can I purchase it? I paid for FSD, $ 7000 but I don't see anything remotely similar to what others are reporting on thier screens and I am very sad, right now.

      Depending on the year and config of your car that will determine when you will get your HW3. Elon says Q1 2020 they will update older cars so stay tuned.
