Fly Tying: A Must have Streamer pattern the Mini Boogie Man!

  • Your five weight can cast this snack sized (2.5") streamer but the real question is can your fly rod handle the hits and fish? This small articulated fly has a unique action that drives trout and bass crazy!
    There are a few cool elements of this fly! First are the flank feathers that cover the back. The feathers cup water and force the rear tail to pulse and move in the water like crazy! On this fly, I use merganser feathers because of the unique brown mottling. But you can use any flank feather as long as you re-enforce it, with UV resin, like I do in the video or double it up. The second cool feature is the profile which is bulkier, pushing more water than other similarly sized patterns.
    I encourage you to tie these to match the bottom of your favorite stream, yes the bottom as your baitfish will be the same color! Fish them where young of the year trout, suckers and smallmouth hide out. When fishing it, move it in small, quick, pulsing motions and you won't be disappointed!

    The glo bug yarn for the head is a great idea. Heavy enough to get push and easier and cheaper than rams wool. Awesome videos. Keep up the good work!!!

      Thanks Adam, glad you liked it but I have to give credit to Russ Maddin for the glo bug yarn idea.

    Killer bug and well tied. I have started tying these in some weird colors. Reddish brown body with copper accents and putting Mayfly Yellow mallard flank on top. Something about that combo gets that fly crushed by rainbows.

      Thanks for the comment! I'll have to try that combo, have some big ole bows in my rivers!

    Hi: great fly and great tying!!

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of great stores. I get materials from many and do not advertise for any. Sorry!

    Hello, I don't know what I would compare the material to for the head and what it could be replaced with? It's hard for me to read the material, what are its properties... could SLF be used? deer hair must be the reason why you didn't use...

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To your hair has properties where it floats, didn't want something that does that. As far as a substitute you could use wool, sheep, they would act the same.

    What other types of glue/ varnish do you think you could use to coat the feathers? I haven't gotten into the UV resins yet

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      anything that will help your feathers maintain shape, form and not discolor... even Sally Hansens Hard as Nails should work, just might take multiple applications.

      I used a rubberized head cement that's hard yet flexible. I like it better . It takes longer to dry so if you prep ahead of time it still has the same affect.

    Where is a good place to buy materials for your flys?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I buy them from multiple places... like the Slide Inn, Dakota Anglers, JS Fly Fishing, Fly Fish Food, Fly Shack and TCO Fly Shop. Typically I pull together a list of materials, search for them in Google and then try to find a shop that carries them all so I don't get hammered with shipping costs. Hope this helps.

    Hi J.
    I'd like to fish these on the loughs "lake's" of Ireland for wild brown trout. Do you think they would swim well in stillwater. If so, Would it be possible for you to tie me half a dozen of these and half a dozen of your micro game changers please.
    If you think they would work and can help I'd be more than happy to pay for your time.
    Thanks Marc.

      Sorry Joe, I sell my flies only once a year at Christmas time. Please follow me on Instagram for an opportunity to purchase the flies. I’m sure a local tier would be able to help you out. Thanks for the kind words and confidence in my flies. Have a great day!

    Why did you stop using wire?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Found it kinked, messed with the action of the fly and just wore through. Been using 25# mono for 3+ years and have never had an issue!

    After a long time and searching for materials in Europe, I came to the conclusion. I can't buy your GLO BUGS BLING in Europe. It would be ideal...
    Here I bought EGG YARN from Wapsi, which mixes well with your brush, but the colors were not yours.
    I bought the Egg Pattern material from McFLYFOAM and it combs through the brush absolutely badly. When you stretch it back, the whole thing twists and deforms.
    I still haven't figured out how to help myself quickly.
    You had to buy a lot of materials before you figured out what is perfect for your streamer...it sure looks like it's in the store...I know it too.
    well thank you
    Has anyone tried with arctic fox?

    • @TroutTornado
      @TroutTornado  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      you could use rams wool
