    You are a magician the way you got that last stack of deer hair on there. Literally how.

      Haha, thanks Ryan! It's a lot of practice and messing up a lot prior to getting to that point, lol.

    You make such great fly tying videos,if you aren't a teacher you should be.

      Thanks Mike, I really appreciate it. I thought about teaching years ago, but decided against the idea.

    You know I love that two toned head. Great job as always, a quick tutorial on tying in a rattle and most importantly tying the materials on top of the rattle would help this poor soul over here!! I missed the dogs on this one! Cristy must have had them out with her!!

      I will film one here in the next few days. Not much else to do seeing as this virus has brought the world to a standstill.

      Thank you, we need to start showing some videos on the water as well, I think that's the next area to dive into.

    Great video, you have really been cranking out some amazing videos lately! Thanks.
    Do you think it would make a difference in the pattern if you cut the zonker off the hide and used it in a brush? I think that the overall pattern would be a lot lighter and move through the water better; especially if you made this change on the back hook.

    • @varnersstreamers
      @varnersstreamers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks Nat, I do agree that it would be much better with the material off the hide. I haven't tried it too many times but I bet once its dialed in, itd be much better for both bulk and motion.

    These new Rabbit strip color combos are just bananas. Just nabbed the Char\Pink Strips and couple others. Thanks again for the D&D tie Josh, Killer for sure!

      @@varnersstreamers Yea I bought up a pack of the rainbow backed when it came out and the backing is so stiff, I'm not sure it will work out. Testing today, let ya know.

    Highly recommend Kelly Gallops zoo cougar mallard flank packs. Almost all the feathers in that pack are useable vs maybe a couple in a standard bag of mallard.

    I've started tying a bunch of these following you video. I think I need to get another fly rod to throw them. My heaviest rod is a 5wt. What would your recommend? I was starting to look at 7s. I'd like it to work for streamers and occasionally a bass trip.

    • @varnersstreamers
      @varnersstreamers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Craig, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I fish a 7 wt and I feel that is about the perfect rod weight plus it will work great as a bass rod as well.

      @varnersstreamers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Brendan, I'm using a Mag Rite. I've tried a few others, but this one just beats them all.

    Hey Josh. I'm very versed in deer hair heads for streamers but since I've started tying this fly I've had a hell of a time trying to get the wedge head right. How are you getting that cut on the bottom of the head that angles up towards the body? Every time I try it seems like there's no room for the angle and it ends up flat on the bottom

    • @varnersstreamers
      @varnersstreamers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Zach, I actually angle it slightly down on the bottom side. It's not a drastic angle, but it allows me to get a bit of a wedge shape without having it flatten out. If you'd want, you can send me a pic of your fly and I can take a look at it and offer some feedback. varnersstreamers@gmail.com

    Every video is just too laborious from not being ready, fumbling for materials, not properly displaying materials, too much talk and for heavens sake, dog distraction. Put the dogs in the kennel. Figure all that out and I might re-subscribe.

      Josh Varner I disagree with Kevin. I think the dogs and your attention to detail adds character and a signature style. Anyone can fast forward through the things they don’t like, but you can’t add in details and character to a video from the viewers end. Keep em coming.
