Badass. The most enjoyable and satisfying tying session that I've seen you do. 👍

Nice tie Cheech! I tie a small single hooked sculpin with bleached and brown deer hair mixed to simulate the speckled and banded sculpin in my area (madtoms too). I like a dark EP fiber and larva lace tail, mostly the latter. That light colored head followed by all that dark flowing tinsel looks amazing when the fly is just sitting idle on the bottom in current. Heavy eyes are a must.

Cool fly. Between your banter and tying tips I'm always entertained and educated. Thanks.

Nice , I love tying sculpin patterns they work so well . Trimming with the razor in hand I also find to be the best way .the key for me is a sharp razor, it makes it much easier. Thanks for the video

First ever comment. Very nice deer hair work. My tying weakness. Visited your shop for first time couple weeks ago. Talked w you about the Regal rotary options. Thanks….and those of us in N Utah appreciate your shop and what you do. 👍🏻

Excellent looking fly! I think I'll give it a shot. Seems easy enough and I think I have all the materials! Thank you sir!

Clever method for securing ice dub on underside of head/eyes. Good stuff. 👍

Very nice! Not to many sculpins around here so I'll tie up a bunch that are sparcer (about 1/4 the ice dub) and longer to match the thinner profile of the Darters that are common in the local watersheds. Thanks for posting!

Question: how do you fish this thing? Just quartering up stream and stripping it back? Jerk strip maybe? Intermediate sinking line?

Nice work! Would a sink tip work better or is a floating line fine with the heavy eyes?

I like the fly but without a whip finish it doesn’t seem like it would hold up that well. Does it come apart after a fish takes it.

Just as a theatrical aside: I see an awful lot of videos these days that feature clipped deer hair. And yet no one ever EVER mentions wearing safety glasses while they're doing that flexy thing with the razor. It is spring-loaded. You only have to screw up once and then your fishing days are very much over. Sorry for the drama. But I tell you as a guy who's already cut his eyelid twice. (not on the same day or on the same fly - I wouldn't tell anybody about if that was the case.)

😂😂😂😂😂 the people telling you how to hold a razor blade more than likely have not used the blades all that much.
I calculate in our fly tying operation we have used 10,000 Razor blades. Never have we wasted our time messing with a tool for the blade. You have much better feel of what is going on when you use your hand.
Also, do not break the blade in half. When cutting sculpin heads you have much better control with the whole blade while pushing the blade up from the hook eye to the collar.
    😂😂
