@@hensonchin9090 It had NOTHING to do with special treatment at all. I guess you need to educate yourself on the FIDE rules and how arbiters should be during tournaments. @@The_Judge300 What I mean is that he is the only player who is not abiding the dress code. Nobody is above the rule. And the fide ceo mentioned in an interview that before the event he has some some special request before the event by which they agreed upon. But he didn't say what kind of request is that.
Was this supposed to be sarcasm? The official title is "BREAKING: MAGNUS CARLSEN IS BACK!" and you have to use DeArrow to get more readable title "Magnus Carlsen will play in the 2024 World Blitz Championship after all".
gald he’s back. i was at the event spectating yesterday and, like some have mentioned, there were players in less than semi-formal, casual attire. this wasn’t at any of the boards being televised, but still, it evidenced that rules after all aren’t all that strict.
More like Magnus is justifiably upset and frustrated (emotional) and his dad is being his rock and voice of reason (logic) that Magnus obviously respects
I don't get why he even mentioned Anand. He's in the Chair of the "Appeals Committee", and Magnus didn't appeal. Why should Vishy Anand even intervene in a situation when you're refusing to "formally approach him" (for whatever reasons) yet going and whining to/about him verbally? He needs to grow up.
Agree. When magnus has not even appealed, he has no right to whine about Anand not qualified for the job. Can we say Magnus was emotional that he did not appeal 😊
I was searching in comments for something related to Anand. Who the heck is that motherfucker Carlsen to just say stupid accusation and go unnoticed. Sad thing is that people just accept what comes out of Carlsen whether it is shit or good.
BTW I just read FIDE dress code rules that said: 3.a) The following is acceptable for men players, captains, head of delegation. Suits, ties, dressy pants, trousers, jeans, long-sleeve or shirt-sleeve dress shirt, dress shirt, alternatively T-shirts or polo, dress shoes, loafers or dressy slip-ons, socks, shoes or sneakers, sport coat, blazer, Bermuda shorts, turtleneck, jacket, vest or sweater. Team uniforms and national costumes clothing. So since jeans ARE actually appropriate attire according to the FIDE ITSELF!!
What a genius, good that you can read. You think the best player in the world doesn't already know what he should wear and what he shouldn't? Was he born yesterday and got to 2850 today or what are we talking about? It's absolutely ridiculous that you think this rule makes any sense and that it's not a way for fide to keep out women and minorities out of this sport. Good job. You played yourself. It's funny when millionaires talk to each other, it magically gets solved, but when Anna Maja gets fined nobody bats an eye. Why can't people just think for themselves, huh? Why you gotta read the rules for? The rules won't change because neither millionaires involved in this discussion want that to change. And do you know what you are? Not one of them
One of the hugest values this channel brings AND this candid interview is the authenticity. The real talk about FIDE, its president v its ceo, really refreshing.

@@RogerMentol I am an old guy who remembers going to a library to find chess magazines in order to follow tournaments that ended months or even years ago.
Back in the bad old days of air traffic control we had to wear a white shirt and black tie. Now - mind you, we were sitting in a dark, locked room, in a locked building, behind an enclosing security fence with a gate guard controlling entrance to the facility. Folks that pushed back got sent home, disciplined, etc. A guy came in one day wearing a white shirt and bright red tie. He was sent home with no pay for the day. The next day he appeared in the required white shirt and black tie with a pair of bright red suspenders. That was the beginning of the turtle slow easing of the ridiculous dress code. :-)
I used to run an online gaming league, and our last rule said "Leniency will be granted if breach of the rules is deemed to have sufficient comedic value. Penalties will be given based on the severity of the infringement. Repeated rule infringements may result in suspension and/or public mocking.". I feel FIDE needs something similar. They could have just tweeted "haha, Magnus forgot his pants", then shown a photo of him in jeans along with a quote of the rule he breached.
Who are you kidding!? Its FIDE, ruled by ex communist organization, with all the same people mindset whom ruled back then. They are dinosaur organization
That rule is way worse than the current rules. It invites people to break to rules if they can do so in a funny manner, then you have an arbiter that doesn't like you or is having a bad day, deems comedic value isn't enough. Also, there are lots of people who think they are funny but they aren't.
This OP understands PR. "Haha Magnus forgot his pants" would have become a meme for at least a couple of years, if not longer. And FIDE would have gained cool points in the community's eyes. If only a savvy marketer had counseled them on how to capitalize on the moment
Nieman: "I'm actually a cultured person, I don't own any jeans" Magnus: "we want to give, not only to the very best players, but also others like Nieman, the chance to qualify"
Didn't Magnus get Niemann blacklisted? And lost in court and had to pay??? Are you pretending the best chess player doesn't know the rules after a lifetime of participation? He could have avoided jeans, yes. Some people do that and never got fined. Some people also show up on time

Magnus was fined 10000 euros for withdrawal from a tournament without valid reason, the charges related to niemann directly were all dismissed (unfounded accusation of chess cheating, attempt to undermine honor, disparagement of FIDE’s reputation and interests) because carlsen HAD reasonable suspicions. @asaraphym802 "are not generally considered as business" is just the explanation why jeans are not allowed. They are not there to conduct business, they are there to play chess so it is clear. Magnus lies. Fide says jeans not allowed. On a broachure were they explain the reasons of each rule it says jeans are NOT allowed in this tournament because jeans are generally not allowed in workplaces.
I noticed that too. The chess federation took a solid aim at their own foot with that one. And that chief arbiter, in his sorely misguided wisdom, confidently pulled the trigger on behalf of said federation... Thankfully, the president of the federation himself, finally woke up from his little nap(...) and sorted their mess out for them... What an utter farse!
