Well, being gentle and humble (I am not a fan of the best being humble), may be seen as nice and dignified. But society may be missing out of some great trash talk. I think she may have have saved a lot of sharp stuff up over the years. Look at any sport: The "intelligent trash talker" champions are remembered for generations, and I don't get jealous. Humble is quickly forgotten. That is why I say the best should not be humble about it. I say they earned it.
OK, a real life example in chess. Who is the most remembered world champ chess player of all time? That would have to be Bobby Fischer. Anybody disagree? :)
@@EarthSurferUSA I think that chess should forever remain a gentleman's game, as it is. That was a good commentary. I was following all through but I was drawn along with the excitement towards that thrilling ending. A deserved win for 'Mom', Pia.

That rook check threatening the knight capture at the end is atypical Pia. Such a sweet person until she gets on a chess board, then it's a full-on, brutal assault.
Like Pat Rothfuss said, winning or losing is secondary; I want to see a beautiful game. Out of the gate, not disappointed! Exciting that you all get to do this!

I love how chess content creators are thorough in explaining but it still doesn't feel too dumbed down as to cater to EVERYONE. I'm having trouble keeping up but that's just how it's gonna be when you're clueless. I do a lot of climbing and often in competition commentary they're explaining the basics oooover and oooover and oooover which alienates the people who are actually passionate about the sport to cater to the average person. Example, if this was climbing they'd be telling people how the knight moves etc during almost every single match and what a checkmate is, not even exaggerating. I don't know which is healthier for the sport but in my opinion the style chess is presented feels like content for chess fans, not EVERYONE scrolling past and that will always win me over rather than constant droning about the base rules no matter the sport.
Rooting for no blunders and no losses on time. My kids never used mum and dad, but mummy and daddy. That's a bigger incentive to use our names now. I'm the same age as Pia and love being called by my name.
Same. Anna was the first channel I found when 600 me decided I want to try to go for 1000 elo. I remember Anna saying "try to put your pieces on their best squares". I had no idea what that meant at the time, but it ended up being what steered me into the positional style I play now.
The confessional is like the camera under the table in poker. Although chess is more determined and less chance than poker, I believe phychology is huge when determining difference between top players. One never gets to see how players feel or think and that is more important than the robot machine element of chess.
Any a great innovation in presentation and good luck to you. I love the accent you have on the word 'move' at the end of a sentence as opposed to in 'move it'
Definitely just keep saying "my mom" in your recap videos - but I actually do think it sounded a little bit better in your official commentary during the live game to just say "Pia." And also, such a well-fought game between both, congrats to Pia!!! Lastly - my OCD is bothered that it says Anna & Alex underneath you guys, but Alex is sitting on the left, so your name is under him and vice versa, lol...
In a challenging game between an International Master and a Grandmaster, the GM-an experienced woman who may no longer be at her peak-demonstrated the unique mindset that defines Grandmasters: an unyielding determination and deep strategic insight that ultimately secured her victory in a hard-fought battle.
So theoretically Pia should be stronger than Levy, but just because she's a GM doesn't mean she is at her strongest at this particular time. I would imagine that there must be many GMs who are no where near as strong as they used to be due to not studying, or low energy, or being unmotivated, or any number of other factors.
It was a stupid idea and unfair. Pia is 32 years older and more suited to classical than shorter time formats. She has far more experience and knowledge than the goth. Playing 9 rapid and so many blitz doesn't represent a player's true ability especially at 32 years older
I like it when you call her mom more. They should do this again without Blits games and two days of Rapid, 3 games a day instead of 6. Pia looked super tired for the second half of Rapid. This format it not fair for her. I was rooting for both of them, however, I wanted Pia to win.
Watching the last 20 minutes or so of the game on the livestream was thrilling, even before they got into time trouble. And the whole match was elevated by Alex and you commentating. RE time trouble: now you know not only how Pia feels, but also ALL your viewers when you start playing bullet during classical tournaments. Pia during official commentary and interviews where audiences won’t always know her name, and mum outside of them seems natural, loving and respectful. I’m biased towards Pia but I really really want Levy to achieve his GM dream, and also hoping that he does very well in this competition.
I've come to the realization that Pia low on time is even more stressful than Anna low on time. Anna may make more moves with the clock almost flagging, but I'm more certain that she will make a move on time without flagging than Pia.
