    First, never every feel you need to apologize, family first always. Glad the school year is coming together for you and your children. Can’t even imagine the challenge parents are going through. Love love love that dress on you, great color and fabric choice. I saw a review for the dress done up in a different fabric and really didnt care for the look, but after seeing yours I just might order that pattern. I have never sewn Itch to Stich pattern, glad to hear it comes in cup sizes. You always do such a great job, thanks for sharing and caring.

      It’s my pleasure! This is the second knit pattern that she’s done in cup sizes (most of her woven ones have cup sizing) and I’m so glad she’s started doing that. Getting a great fit is so easy!

    Love those cooler months too! It’s been such a hot summer and I’ve only got air conditioning in my bedroom at my moms house so i spent the summer holed up in here sewing. I’m closing on my new place on the 15th so will be decorating my sewing space and hope to start a channel filming the process. I love this dress! I’ll order one right now plus I think there was some thing else I wanted but was waiting for a new release as a reminder. I’m big on long sleeve tees under things like this, I love the tight turtleneck idea too, have to have it Thanks Whitney!

    Really like this dress! It slims your figure...not that you need it, but it does slim you with the style lines. The color is perfect for you. I agree that you could put a top under it for Winter. I purposefully made some turtlenecks and turtleneck shells to wear under some of my tops for Winter. I found that using a poly or nylon fabric worked best so the outer piece slides over the under piece. I tried cotton over cotton once and that was a big fail! LOL. Won't be doing that again... Thanks for the review. It looks great!

    Two things - first, you look really, really good in that dress. Total win on the pattern and color with how it flatters you. Second, what is it with all you auburn-haired people and your love of fall? Two of my most precious friends are gingers and they love fall. I love summer, so we're always shaking our heads at each other. They're always saying "it's too hot and humid, you can have this horrible weather, where's the A/C?" and I'm always saying "It's too cold, everything's dying, it's gonna be all cloudy and dreary now!" I think it's genetic with you auburn-heads! I think the one and only thing I like about cold weather is that you can wear boots. Which, btw, yours look fabulous with that dress 😁 🍁👎☀️🥵🏝🌺👍

    Your version of Megan Nielsen's Matilda dress is the best I have seen so far! I wonder if you made any alterations to achieve that look, bcs on everybody else the waist sits too high and the dress is too tight in the waist area. I didn't find a Matilda video, that is why I am writing here.

      Thank you! I made that dress before the channel which is why it never made it on here. I did a FBA on the pattern and left the added width from that in the waist. I loved that dress, but unfortunately, ruined that version in a laundry mishap. I need to make another one!

    Hi Whitney, this dress suits your figure so much! It is one of my favorite test makes so far. Can you please recommend a suitable fabric that is flowy and moves well, not too thin. I don't want a fabric that hugs your body and off all your lumps and bumps. I would be grateful for your suggestions. Jenny

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made mine out of a rayon ribbed knit, however, one of the suggested fabrics (and one many of the testers used) is double brushed poly. It think it’s a bit warm to wear, but if you’re making something for cooler weather it could be a good option! You could also do this one in a lightweight ponte. Something with a high percentage of viscose or rayon would drape nicely. Cotton/spandex jersey would work good for skimming over bumps. It would create a fuller skirt because it doesn’t drape as much, but that can be beautiful!

    You mention your "colors" often. Is there a particular service that you recommend? Do you think the free tests or quizzes online do an adequate job? I always thought I leaned more toward warm, but the couple of online tests that I've done suggest that I'm a soft summer. Would love your thoughts! P.S. I just went to the Zinck's in Lancaster, PA (based on your recommendation) on Monday and did a huge haul! I'm going to record a video on my finds this week :) I just searched on your channel and found the video where you tell about your color matching experience - watching it now!!

  • @dianneandres3770
    @dianneandres3770 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whitney, I too am 5'2" with a short torso (size C cup), so I know I will always have to shorten the bodic. You mentioned you shortened your bodic. Did you consider making the petite bodic adjustment or based on the cup size option did you find that it wasn't necessay. I'm getting ready to make the Antrim and will of course make a muslin but was wondering what your thoughts were. Thanks a bunch. I really enjoy your channel and your sweet personality.

    • @TomKatStitchery
      @TomKatStitchery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I’m sewing patterns with cup sizes, I find I can make smaller sizes that fit my frame better. Because of that, I usually don’t have to do a petite adjustment. I sometimes shorten the bodice if I need to raise the waist to sit on my high waist.

    Love that colour - do you think it's Marsala - the Pantone colour of the year a few years ago? Here's a link www.housebeautiful.com/uk/decorate/g25463774/pantone-colour-of-the-year/?slide=16. That dress is definitely on my list for autumn sewing.
    I like the cooler months too - I just love getting my sweaters and woollens out and putting away all that flimsy cotton! My friend and I are counting down to OTD - that's 'Opaque Tights Day' for the uninitiated - the first day it's cold enough get out the opaque tights. 😀

    LOL too funny! I want to cover my boobs too! Hahahaha! I absolutely love that colour on you! I think I will be buying this pattern! Do you think you could use a lighter weight scuba? For the warmer fall weather you could wear it with your natural coloured wedges with ivory/beige accessories (woven rope style stretchy belt etc).

      You could definitely use a lighter weight scuba. That will give you a pretty full skirt, but that would be beautiful!

      @@TomKatStitchery Thanks Whitney, ordered the pattern and have it downloaded ready to print! If I used power mesh in the waist band of a regular knit, not the scuba do you think that would offer more support for the fabric to stay where it's suppose to if the fabric is a bit too light? I have a fall patterned knit that is more 'fluffy' for the lack of a better way to explain it, almost like a very light sweater knit. And thought I could line the bodice and waist with a light power mesh to keep the integrity of the fabric, would that work or am I grasping here? lol

      Cecile Hoare I think a power net in the inner waistband would be perfect! It would definitely add some support through there.
