    I've just bought the pattern and will start making it today. I always learn so much from your videos and was thrilled to see that you had made a video about this specific dress. Thank you so much for helping others learn to sew and to have the confidence to try new things. Your explanations, graphics, and voice overs are so well done. I can't even imagine how much extra time it adds to each project to film and then edit all the footage that becomes your finished video. You do an excellent job at three very different jobs- teaching, sewing, and video making.

    I agree about stripes not matching. Even if it is soft furnishing or bedding, if the stripes don't match I won't buy it. Thanks for showing how to match stripes and cut the bodice.

      I’m glad you found it useful. Cutting to match them takes a bit longer and also to sew but the results are always worth it :)

    As always, your videos are high quality and so well presented. You are a prefect example of someone who knows her personal style and gracefully models it.
    Could you consider addressing the challenge of sewing for small busted women? I have always struggled with bodice fitting and darts are my nemesis because they create so much unneeded space. Small bust adjustment just doesn't help and the solution is not to only sew knits. It would be wonderful if someone in the sewing community would give this issue some serious attention. I would love to find a well-designed dress with a dartless bodice.

    Oh, this dress turned out beautiful. The striped matching on the skirt was fantastic. I might’ve even wanted to bring the sides down the front, to show off that diagonal line! And with the lines of the top it would accentuate an hourglass illusion. Beautiful, love the black and white!

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doing the bias on the skirt would’ve required a center front seam and in a pattern test, adding extra seams is not allowed. The pattern needs to be sewn as per the original. But yes! If I had more fabric, I’d do that for sure. Any diagonal stripe is always pretty.

    You talking about stripes, cracks me up. You sound just like my mom, she couldn't stand things not matched, could be a costume and she wanted everything to match. I'm fussy but not so bad as my mom was. But I'd thinks are worth doing it's worth doing right. Great project. You did a great job.

    Thank you for the tips. This is very similar to a dress I bought some years ago for my daughter's wedding rehearsal dinner - it's still my favorite. Is a print and hides a weight loss. You were brave to tackle those stripes😊

    Hi Karina, I really like the way you manipulated the stripes in this pattern. Always beautifully sewn! Can you recommend fabrics that are drapey and flowy without gripping to the areas of the body you don't want to see? I find your channel very informative and always learn a lot. Thank you for your contribution.

    Great tutorial!! I do have a question, if your fabric is a bit too light or doesn't have the recovery it should, could you use a light power mesh under the waist band and bodice to help retain it's shape? I hope the next video shows a full bicep adjustment! ;)

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much 😊. I would suggest using the recommended fabrics. What I do when the fabric is too light, is use two layers on top of each other. I treat them like one piece and I’ve show this in some videos. About power mesh, it could also serve the same purpose, but I’m talking in the context of fabric with good recovery here. I would not sew this dress with fabric that does not recover. Not only because of the bodice structure, but also because the skirt will deform and sag lower.

      As you can appreciate, I don’t take commissions for sewing at all and don’t ever plan to. You can make this dress for sure. It’s not hard to make and all you need is stripe knit fabric 👍🏼.

    It looks great. That length is great on you. I’m 5’9” and I like my dresses right below my knee. What height is the pattern made for?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Itch to Stitch drafts for 5ft 6” and I’m 5ft 8”. The skirt is supposed to be below the knee. I think you’d be ok if you added 1” to the hem of the skirt for it to be below your knee :)

    Another great video Karina - thank you. Because I am in Antrim just now I am very tempted to make this garment as a top (I don't really wear dresses). I imagine it would not be difficult to use the skirt pieces as the basis of a peplum? This looks great on you.
    I hope you don't mind my asking, but I am wondering why you always do shorter skirt lengths? You do have fabulous legs and the shorter skirts really show those off. However because you are so tall I imagine you looking very elegant in a longer-length skirt and would love to see you in one some day.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I made a peplum top today and will share that very very soon. I did modify the skirt a little to remove some volume for the peplum. About my preferred skirt length: it’s about the way I feel and not about the way I look. It’s the same with maxi length. I feel positively awful in midi and beyond, so I won’t sew or wear the style. So in summary, you won’t see that length on me 😊 because I sew the way I like to wear my clothes, regardless of the intended length on a pattern.

    • @EileenR11
      @EileenR11 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LiftingPinsandNeedles Really looking forward to seeing the peplum - I learn so much from your videos. The most important thing is that you feel happy and comfortable in your makes and do what is right for you. x

  • @johannesingleton1788
    @johannesingleton1788 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Karina would it be possible to make a double layer for the front wraps and not have the binding....question....how would I cut the different size for the inner 2pieces so not to have any gaping love your dress and the fit you show is Ming and makes th garment hand made not home made. Pls and thanks. Joh

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could cut the inner layers the same but when sewing them together you could sew 1/4” elastic on the seam allowance, before flipping it. This is all in theory.... BUT, I’d rather do the binding. The crossover plus the gathers in more layers will be super super bulky. I’m all for lining, but not when it will compromise bulk and smoothness.

  • @sherylvitosh7209
    @sherylvitosh7209 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the dress on you. It looks great! How do you think the fit compares to the willow wrap from love notions for you?

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to add considerable length to the bodice of the Willow for it to hit by waist (1.5”-2”). I am accustomed to that because Love Notions drafts for a woman much shorter than me (I am 3” taller) and I can’t use their full bust piece because it’s too roomy for me. So I adapt to the different brands without problem. This one has a specific C cup and that helps in the way of needing no adjustments. They both have a fitted bodice and a flowy skirt 😀
