  • Hi Cruisers, It's time to get serious on CruiseTipsTV. Today we are going to look at 10 ways to get kicked off a cruise ship. But first, be sure to visit our sponsor cruiseline.com? It's a great place to get to know your ship before you cruise.
    Okay, so we're going to give the scoop on what exactly will get you kicked off a cruise ship, and hopefully help you avoid them. Some of these things may be pretty obvious, but you'd be surprised how many new cruisers don't consider these things you shouldn't do on a cruise. You may know that fighting will get you kicked off a cruise ship, but some may think only the person starting the fight will get kicked off. This is rarely the case. A few new cruisers may get caught up in feeling of freedom that comes with cruising. With all the fun things to do on a cruise, it's can be easy to forgot about what not to do on a cruise. Getting kicked off a cruise ship will definitely ruin your cruise, so make sure it doesn't happen to you. Remember there a few that might be a little surprising.

    On our very first cruise (to Alaska) two couples apparently skipped the muster drill. The next day at sea, the four of them were sitting on benches on the promenade deck, each holding a sign that said "I skipped the muster drill". They were even instructed to verbally inform everyone walking by that "I missed the drill yesterday". Humiliating! And cold! I have no idea how long they had to stay there, I only saw them once. But... stupid!

    I think you should get some kind of a hall pass for avoiding the musters if you've been on a certain amount of cruises. I've been on 14 cruises and I don't even pay attention during the muster any more.

    Flicking cigarette over the side: people don't realize the cig can come back aboard! I have seen it happen. Depending on how high up and how forward you are on the ship, the aero effects of the ship's forward motion can bring a lightweight item like that right back aboard, further aft and lower down typically.

    You are correct about missing the muster drill. We had ours while still docked at the home port, and one cabin did not show up. We were delayed for about 40 minutes, and it was announced to all that it was because the couple that had refused to go to the gather point were being escorted off of the ship. I met the captain in a line of officers at a social event, and congratulated him.

    20 years ago I skipped the munster drill. I laid in my bed and heard a knock at the door and didn't answer.
    the next day I got a very stern letter from the officers making me and others to attend a makeup drill later in the week. needless to say we got a scolding from them.

    HI Sheri, we got back to NYC yesterday after our cruise on the NCL Gem, great cruise and weather. First time out of NY, amazing views for sail away! Missed your videos, binge watching now. Great list, you had a few often missed on similar lists I've seen and did a great job explaining. You miss the muster on NCL, you are required to attend a make up early the next morning. Skip that... My fiancee loves muster??? To her it is kind of the beginning of the vacation. Regarding lattitudes, she mad Platinum on this cruise and I was still two points short though we are scheduled on another in August. Not sure why but they just went ahead and gave it to me early. It appears you really only need one person in the stateroom to get the benefits so that may be why.

    • @bearbk3
      @bearbk3 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ann Bain the reason you can be put off the ship for flicking a cigarette is it might go back to the other cabins behind your cabin and catch the ship on fire that way and yes it has happened.

    • @CourtingChaos
      @CourtingChaos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it's the number one cause of fires on ships. They rarely make it to the sea and are instead swept onto lower decks or into balconies..

    It's such an inconceivable concept. Being on a cruise=vacation, hence, relax and mellow out. There's just no reason at all to be rude to anyone there. Anyone getting annoyed on a cruise should be asking themselves, why are they on a cruise in the first place. It's so simple to get along with people on a cruise. Just be polite and if that's too hard, then simply keep to yourself and others will leave you alone. Even the gabby goose will get the hint and look for a more receptive sounding board.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Sometimes you don't get busted until the ship docks at home. I saw a guy in front of me get nabbed for drugs he bought in Bermuda. They pulled him just before clearing the final security gate. Just a few steps more and he would of been scot free!

      With passenger card scanning at muster drills this is now a moot point. On our recent Carnival cruise, passengers who didn't attend the main drill had to do a make-up drill in the main theater at a later time.

Well have a look into a recent incident in Australia , where a family of 23 assaulted people onboard a cruise ship for up to 3 days before anything was done. The captain was heard to say , what do you want me to do about them , throw them overboard....Took 3 days of assaults on total strangers for anything to be done.

  • @TOhara-eb2lp
    @TOhara-eb2lp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Hi Sheri. Just a FYI- I've never seen a fight on board but if you'd like to see one there are videos of them all over TH-cam. For some reason most of them seem to happen on Carnival (I can't see a pair of old timers duking it out on Cunard for some reason). I know about the cigarette no-no and other things being tossed over the side but about once a year on the news you'll see a story about someone who threw their spouse over the side. That might get you into the naughty room along with the smoker.
    Way to get kicked off #11- be the pier runner who doesn't quite make it back in time :-)

    I just watched another video about a gentleman. who was in a bar onboard a cruise and was highly intoxicated and was discussing how much money everyone had spent onboard asking everyone how much they had spent. then as a joke, in jest he said "I've spent so much onboard that I should jump overboard so not to pay the bill" of course he was only being silly, but the crew overheard him and within two minutes two other crew and security were by his side and escorted him to an interior cabin (him and his family were staying in a balcony cabin) and a security guard stood outside of the cabin door all the rest of the day and the entire evening. and the following morning when they reached port he was escorted off of the ship and kicked off. I didn't stop to think how serious something like this would be taken. I totally understand though and it's great that it was taken seriously. and I'm really glad I have watched that video, as saying something similar just in jest, I could picture myself saying. but not now. now I know to watch what I say as it could be taken the complete wrong way.

      Ashley Dunn they bill you on the end of cruises. Mostly All the drinks you were charged they add the tips on there. You can also add additional tips to like your waiters/waitress and Room services. But you don't have to.
      If you bought the Alcoholic Drink packages, I think all your tips are included in there so no charged.
      That was Royal Caribbean, I can't say much about the other Cruise Lines of how they do their tipping.

    I nearly came to blows with a fellow passanger on a P&O ship once. There were only 6 washing machines and 6 dryers for passenger use on the whole ship (over 2 decks) and this idiot thought that because his clothes were in the washing machine, that automatically meant that a dryer had to lay vacant waiting for his load to finish. I used the dryer and he started verbally abusing me. Lucky I'm not a violent person, and after a few harsh exchanges of obscenities, the situation abated.

    So a family of 24 gets kicked off a Carnival cruise which is great, but did anyone take a close look at the behavior of the security staff? One look at their behavior would be enough to keep me from ever cruising with Carnival ever! It was hard to distinguish between the two groups. Oh, wait a minute, one group was wearing “security” labeled shirts!

      I actually have been sick for muster before and they still made me go. It was on Holland America (you have to go out on deck on Holland and line up in rows) and the did allow me to just sit inside and not stand out on deck. Same for my mom who I cruised with several years ago about 2 months after she had a hip replacement. Just talk to the crew members at muster and they will (likely) allow you to sit down inside. You can still hear instructions and announcements. Princess is great for muster drills because the muster drills are inside and you are sitting anyways. I wish Holland America was the same. I can not remember my experiences on Carnival, Celebrity, NCL or RCL. Muster is SO important regardless of how often a person cruises.

    Half on the list will likely get you kicked off, the rest you'll get a warning. Cruise lines are not in the habit of kicking people off who hide in the showers instead of going to the muster drill, they will just tell you to get to your muster station.

Turns out the PA in the Cafe were not working!!! But it was a great cruise, i am going on another one at the end of August this year, sooooo excited!!!!!!

    My 22nd cruise on Carnival, I carry the VIFP status. :)
    There should be 11 ways to get kicked off a cruise ship, and in my case A SURGE STRIP, Yea, and I have the letter from the captain to back it up. I do know I'm not the only cruise criminal, as this has happened to many on Carnival cruise line. Quick line of events
    They confiscated my ( power strip) and left me a note, security interrogated me wanting to know how long it has been in use, etc. They were trying to hang my room steward for not reporting it. So I decided not to partake in trying to hang the person taking care of my room, and very well at that. on the 14th day at end of cruise, I was ordered to go to security, and it is then I was served with a letter from the captain, "no longer allowed to cruise with carnival". But it was not just us, it was another elderly "criminal couple" busted for the same thing. She asked if I had a power strip too? and I said yes, and they confiscated it. I would not sign the document, but he let me take a picture of the to document it to prove it really happened. Oddly enough, I was supposed to get my property back at the end of the cruise, but they could not find it, BC they then knew, it was not a surge strip, but a power strip instead. I did call carnival and was reinstated to cruise on Carnival. They apologized about not getting me my surge strip back and gave me a $25 credit on my next cruise. When I cruised last week, the credit was no where to be found. I asked them, and they showed no record of it, and said maybe it expired. :) Wow!

    I agree with every point, except when you talk about the Captain, you should soften the concept, he is not the absolute authority that will do as his fancy dictates, he is not a dictator either, if he is abusive … abusing his authority then he can be kicked out of his job or even go to jail!! we are talking about a cruise ship and not under a tyranny, just by saying that he does as he pleases you are placing him in a hot seat to be hated and despised, unjustly, he is an authority and he should be respected, but he is a rational authority with responsibilities and boundaries. The captain I have met in the cruise ships are fair, gentlemen, intelligent, dedicated to their job … respected by the crew and the passengers, so please don't demonize them by make them ruthless dictators if they want to be such as kicking some one off the ship without giving any genuine reason.

      why won't they? Risk of on board pregnancy, or...?

    • @TriceBKnowles
      @TriceBKnowles 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's actually incorrect. They'll sell you a ticket... They don't ask about pregnancy at the time of purchase. However they wont let you board the ship if your 22 weeks or later at the time of departure or anytime during the cruise. So if your less then 22 weeks pregnant your fine. Also they don't make you prove how many weeks you are, but they will make you sign an additional waver. So if someone beyond 22 weeks wants to risk it that's on them.

    what is muster?

    • @CruiseTipsTV
      @CruiseTipsTV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gene! The Muster drill is a mandatory safety briefing that every cruise line requires passengers to participate in prior to sailing on every cruise. Every single cruise line performance them a little bit differently but generally they require you to leave your cabin and attend a safety briefing either in a public area or near the lifeboat that your assigned to you in the event of an emergency.

    is a minor 18 or 21? Me, I joined the army a couple months after i turned 17, and could drink in an army bar thereafter. Germany, later on, I don't think there was much of an illegal age. But after my first tour, I was 20 and wasn't allowed to drink whiskey in CO. More culture shock.

    Folks should read reddit Tales From the Front Desk. Basically abusing the staff with swearing or racial slurs will get you evicted and put on the DNR list. That’s the Do Not Rent list. I’m sure cruise lines will similarly ban customers from the property/vessel.
