Calibration and alignment for the Geeks at Large Camera kit (Lightburn)

  • The final steps!
    One thing I forgot to mention is that you need to home your machine from now on. This is how Lightburn knows where it is and can correctly align the camera for you. Do this on power up, and after jobs finish. Before power up, you can manually move the laser module to the back left corner, as far as it will go. After jobs, use the home button. Both of these can be done automatically via Lightburn, saving you the trouble.

    Awesome thanks helped me a great deal.. Got a new Genmitsu L8 and camera calibration is a bear as the camera is fixed to the lid.

    I just got the camera kit mounted. I have done the hex pattern to register but then when I go to do the alignment wizard and do the 1- 4 quadrant frame my laser is overshooting and hitting the rail and just coming to a stop. it won't create the targets in the center of the work area as its shown. Would you have any suggestions or workaround as to solve the predicament? Thank you!

      Did you Home the machine first?
      Reducing the pattern size may also help

    Thank you question my camera control window shows image clear but the actual image on the lightburn grid screen is blurry. When I focus am I focusing thru the little window or the actual bed?

    • @geeksatlarge
      @geeksatlarge  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I use the Windows app Camera to set the focus, using something with small text (eg junk mail).

    I swear cobey, Lightburn and Xtool need to be paying you the bucks...I'm dead serious. I almost packed everything up and decided to just quit the laser. I came across this video, and although I've seen LB's video it no where is it close to this. You don't take for granted that everyone is knows what is what. I've issues with some of LB's deal anyway..However this video just answered the lens problem....which is I believe the dot issue. Going to give it another shot. Does it make any difference if the camera is not over center of the bed? My holder is taped up...LOL. It fell apart awhile back, but if the laser hits the rail again, I'm going to have to realign again. The laser hit the rail at a horrific speed in XCS, enough that the arm on the camera hold fell off!

      As long as you can see the whole engraving area in the camera, you're set.

LG Dominik

      To the best of my knowledge, this should work. Here is a much older instruction set from Lightburn: forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/camera-alignment-calibration-backup/8304

    I got everything set up, aligned, but when I go to engrave the square to fine tune, haven't moved anything except to hit "home" for my laser head, I do have absolute coordinates selected, did an update overlay, my coordinates of the square on lightburn are, say, x-84, y-95, but on the actual material, that x-coordinate should really be about 15 or so. How could this be so way off? The whole screen overlay is shifted over so far to the right. I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say.

    • @geeksatlarge
      @geeksatlarge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! Typically something like this is caused by the machine not being homed before doing the alignment calibration. Secondary cause, predominantly for xTool owners, is the machine is not configured correctly in Lightburn.

    • @mommavideo

      @@geeksatlarge Yes! That's what it was, I didn't home before alignment calibration. I had actually gone through the whole process again just before i saw your response and it now works. Thanks for responding so quickly and I'm excited to use this!

    @Cobey Schmidt when I homed the machine prior to the camera it would hit the rails in the back upper left. With the camera now aligned, will it not do that? I do not want to damage the machine or belts. Also what kind of paper did you use? The new system allows for power and I have burned thru it trying this method

    • @geeksatlarge
      @geeksatlarge  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bumping the rails in the rear when homing is normal, how the machine was designed
      I'm usually regular paper, nothing special

    I notice that when you first hook up the camera, the LightBurn overlay display is 90 degrees rotated to the right. After using the Camera app, it is correctly oriented in LightBurn. What happened in between? I have the "90 degrees out" problem on a MacBook, and it makes my camera useless. I'm using High Sierra MacOS, and there is no camera app in the software. Also no way I can see to orient the image in LightBurn. Did you do anything to change the Overlay orientation, or did it just happen after you used your Windows Camera app?

    Good morning , got my kit and installed it, thanks. The camera shows up as p600 or something, is it a fisheye or flat lense?
    Where would I find the camera controls? (For focus and brightness etc) got it calibrated ok, there is something strange with the update overlay though, going to keep working with it.

    Trying to set up the camera kit we just received from you on a D1 (not pro). When you say make changes to try to get a good/lower score, what changes are you making? I'm not clear if we are moving the camera, adjusting focus, moving the dot pattern card, etc?

    • @geeksatlarge
      @geeksatlarge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nudge the pattern around or change your lighting

      @@geeksatlarge Thanks for the rast response! I think I misunderstood this step as spatial rather than distortion calibration which helps. It also appears the FOV of the camera does not quite cover the entire workspace? Almost feels like we need a couple extra cm of elevation on the mast.

    • @geeksatlarge
      @geeksatlarge  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lodmed don't get confused with the area you can see vs where the laser can actually go. For example, in the Home position, you only need to see the very bottom edge of the module module shield. The distance between there and the rear frame are irrelevant, as your laser can't go there. The same for the front and sides - if you put a piece of paper vertically against the top inner lip, you only need to see the bottom edge of the paper. Less actually, as your laser can't get to where the bottom of the paper is.
