For this first generation Chevrolet S-10 turned into a crew cab, you should make the truck look stock. Try to find some nicer wheels and interior pieces to make it look like Chevrolet actually produced a first generation crew cab S-10. You could put an LS1 in the truck and make it a true sleeper. Just an idea that I thought would make a great build.
The main thing that comes to mind is the odd, disjoined window line of those back doors. I know that's how they came on the blazer, but it really doesn't fit the new lines and shape of a crew cab. That window line was meant to blend the rear door window in with the cargo area window: But, that portion of the body is no longer there. My suggestion on how to fix this site line issue is to swap the doors to the other side. This has a few design benefits. If you black out the B pillar, this will merge the sight lines of the front and rear door window lines; restoring the cohesive appearance of the cab. Second, the door handles and latching mechanisms will be in the right location for reverse opening doors.
A utilitarian truck would be an awesome build for this thing. You dont have to go all out with the engine, just something that could tow/haul without issues(a reliable 4.8 or 5.3(assuming you're going the LS route)). The interior you could find some very durable and very water resistant fabric/material. A 4x4 conversion would be awesome as well, showing us the process for that. A proper lift without using blocks and some stylish wheels with some usable tires(not mud terrains or boggers). Also while you're doing the handle relocation, if possible/easy it'd look 10 times better with the rear doors body lines to match up with the original s10.
Well, most of the work is already done. I like the idea of it, it's unique and one of the reasons why I was drawn to it. The trick is finding the best way to execute the rest of it properly.
Nice find!! Personally, I’d do a mild resto mod. LS Engine, Automatic with Overdrive, upgraded suspension, wheels and tires, lower it, and obviously body work and paint. Make it a badass truck, but a nice weekend cruiser at the same time.
I would put an ls in it, throw in some comfy overstuffed 80s style cloth seats, and I love your idea about the door handles, I think it would look great! Some kind of throw back cruiser truck, I'd even mate the ls with an auto trans and just cruise in it!
Im a big s-series guy. Ive only seen 2 really great looking 1st gen crew cab conversions. One was a gm 4x4 prototype with nonfunctional windows in the rear fiberglass doors. It looked factory (it kinda was) and the other is body dropped on 20s with a buick grand national turbo v6 engine in it. The trick is the re skin the entire blazer roof with the roof from an extended cab truck (it'll take more than one). The blazer roof is a tad taller than a truck roof. Thats why the graft at the back of the cab looks funky. Then graft the rear of a front door to the front of a rear blazer door (if that makes sense). Lots of door frame fabwork to make the rear doors look right. You seem pretty knowledgeable on the s-series. Love the project and cant wait to see the progression!
I say make it as OEM as possible with a few exceptions. Power leather seats, no suicide doors and keep normal door handles, do a v8 swap and I think a red wine glossy paint job with the rims you have now would look amazing especially if you lifted it a few inches and stuck some 33in BFG's on it
I hahave a 93 s10 extended cab i got when my dad passed away. He bought it back in 94. I went and got my driver's license in it when I was 17. I am now 39 and back behind the wheel of the truck where it all began. When I was cleaning it up one day I found a piece of paper under the seat and it was the actual dealership window sticker with a price of just a little over $14,000. I really enjoy watching the Jimmy videos and am looking forward to seeing the s10 come to life. Very cool stuff buddy.
You should put in an LS engine, just like you said. You should also put on custom wheels and tires like you have done with the 240. You could even put on a custom lift kit and put some LED colored lighting underneath, if you know what I’m talking about. I mean, you could do lots of things with the truck. Hope you like my ideas!
To be honest, this is super 90's to me. Extended cab, suicide doors, the door handles sound cool, LT1 because that's 90's, flat dash and digital cluster, cloth buckets and a bench in the back. Really cool find!
This will look amazing when you're done, and that's coming from a Ford Ranger fan! I think you should get those 5-spoke wheels from the green parted out S-10. If memory serves those were wheels you got for the higher end S-10s and Blazers in during the later years of the first generation. As for the dash, the retro look fits nicely, and would make the interior pop more, but the modern design could probably get the same treatment with silver plates and what have you. It's a tough decision. Personally I'd keep the modern design.
That is going to be a project. This should be interesting. Investment and time. It is interesting you found that vehicle. Carry on Kyle. I emailed you to make sure you and your family were okay because of the hurricane that hit the Carolinas. Cloth Kyle.
you are getting in to much serious project than a chrisfix with a lot less experience so hats off to you sir not so interested with the jimmy build but i loved this one and you can be sure i will follow it closely cant wait for the new video on this beast hahaha
I love the way your channel is going. You keep it professional with the car reviews while still having fun doing whatever the heck you want/having a good time. Keep up the amazing concept Kyle!!!
You should clean it up a lot. Repaint, brand new modern interior, steering wheel, gauges, LED lights, suicide doors like you said, clean new wheels etc.
Love the vids man. Got a few ideas for ya. I'm thinking you should take the "blaze-10" build towards a clean final product. Aesthetically, bring the suspension up a little cause the slammed long bed look doesn't really match the image of this truck imo, but don't overdo it. Throw like a 6 inch lift on it, I would say a 4 inch but it looks pretty low already. Secondly, tires and wheels, thinking a 33 inch tire would look killer on this truck; not stealing all the focus from the rest of it's beauty this way. Keep it balanced. Not sure about a specific "perfect" wheel size at the moment, but I think you should have the wheels and tires sticking out from the side of the truck maybe 4 inches, to give it that real nice stance. Nitto Mud Grapplers? Fuel Rims? Nothing too flashy. Not tooooo sure about the suicide doors, they're cool but idk, maybe standard would help the clean look. Engine-wise, drop a 5.3 Vortec in there, or an LS3. You'd probably like the LS3 better. Paint it something like a deep metallic gray and let er rip tater chip!!
The MIni Truck is strong with this one, currently have a '95 Dakota Sport as project car myself. I could see a period correct sport truck with a modernized C4 Corvette drivetrain and exterior/interior styling of a GMC Syclone/ Chevy S10 Xtreme
get rid of the suicide door and make it normal, install a regular OEM GM grey leather interior, paint the whole truck black, tint the windows, lower it, put some 90s impala ss rims on it (or american racing outlaws), cover the bed, drop an LS in it, dual exhaust, 5 speed, there ya go, baddest s10 in the world, i'd put some SS badges on it to finish it off but thats just me
Add the SS badges for sure they will add a 💯 horse power on their own my as well add some racing strips you will have a pro mode when you are done it could be a cool little truck if you don't junk it up with stupid stuff like stick on badges and Goofy strips good luck and keep it clean and classy and you will have a different truck then everyone else that is what it's about now not have the same thing as everyone else
Dont be putting no ss badges on somthing that never came from the factory as an ss that would be like me putting some ss badges on my z28 just doesnt make sense. Keep the outside clean and simple.
This is the kinda stuff i wanna do for people, I wanna design and build cars for people since I have a mind like nobody else and seeing that truck I have so many ideas!!
Hey Kyle I think that you should rebuild a old grocery getter it be really cool to see what you be able to do to a normal looking old classic 90s sedan 🚘
Go complete 90s mini truck and shave the handles then add remote door poppers! I love the suicide door concept! Definitely would keep that aspect. And make it a bright color with some graphics!
Get the engine from the parts jimmy and put it in the s 10 also you could put the leather seats in there from that jimmy and digital gauges and make it a manual 5 speed
Cool project Kyle! Retro fitting the dash would be a challenge but an interesting one at that and I'd say cloth manual seats. Just fits with a Blazer's rough style.
I've got an amazing idea for the S10. Call it crewicide paint it Lincoln Town car black. Leather interior. Maybe a color matched camper shell. If it were me I'd go Ls but use dress up part's. Make it look old school V8.
StabTheDab 2 The new shop/garage isn’t finished yet. We’re close though! We just sold our house so I couldn’t start doing engine swap stuff yet. Once the shop is ready, we can start making progress again. Thanks for your patience!
That's an awesome looking truck. I say: ditch the bed, box and reinforce the frame, make it into a ramp truck (like the Roadkill truck), Silverado HD drivetrain (gasser) and make it your tow truck for the 240 and whatever else project you get in the future.
Put some sport car seats in it, lower it, then drop a small block Chevy in it, get everything fully restored and modernize it and it will be the best truck out there, BTW I live is Mocksville so that’s also cool
You need to do that early flat dash, those are so rare to see anymore! This is making me miss my 83 S10 Durango Edition so badly right now... it was rust free as well, but it was sadly totaled back in 2013 (2.8 v6 carbureted, auto trans, 4x4, short bed single cab, two-tone silver and blue)
An LQ4 with a 4l80e would be the perfect setup. If you kept it stock it would be the perfect ratio of low end torque and top end hp. Definitely keep the suicide doors! I think if you put it on bags it would be pretty sweet.
Little late to the party but I’m super excited to see how this turns out. This generation of s-10 is my absolute favorite and seeing what could have been with a crew-cab option is probably the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while.
Cool little project. Not overly ambitious. I say keep it simple. Shaved rear door handles with inner handles similar to a late 90s f150, a modest color like a candy apple red, led limo style lights in the ceiling, nice stereo, manual seats and keep original dash, dark interior with window tint. Sweet sleeper and maybe find an old svt lightning supercharged engine and trans. Drivetrain is going to be most expensive part. I say KISS, keep it simple son.
Hey Kyle huge fan from almost the beginning of your channel. Awesome add to the project fleet! Tbh I’d love to see you make this look almost as factory possible, like if It had rolled out from GM. I think I’ll turn heads and make people ask a bunch of questions about it. Drop a nice clean LS engine to have good power and call it a day. Making it custom, well people would just say it’s a custom truck instead of something like “wow didn’t know those existed “ in a factory Oem appearance. Just my two cents. Anyways, looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
With the extra crew cab space this would make an ideal long haul car transport. Either keep the pickup bed but put a fifth wheel coupling in there for a trailer, or ditch the bed and put on a flatbed & winch. For the rear cab go for something that’s modular so it can be set up either for crew sleeping or storing tools, parts, tires etc.
Awesome project, can't wait to see what you do with her! Go with either a 5.3L, or a 4.8L LS motor, both are extremely plentiful in the yards, reasonably priced, and the iron block makes them a favorite among the boosted crowd. As far as your door handles, look for 1971 Pontiac grand Prix handles. They make re-pop ones, and I think they're going to be exactly what you're looking for. An electric sliding rear window would be a nice addition as well, but those are hard to find. I'm starting a complete ground up re-build on my 91 S10 Blazer in the spring, so I'm looking forward to tracking your progress!
I would go with a LS engine, Blazer interior. And have the exterior looking as sharp as it can be, stock hight, beautiful wheels and those really cool push button doorhandles. 😀
wow that's definitely a different s10 looks like it was well put together though... those manuel seats I think would look good in there if you could find bench seats for the back the same style, the back door is just awesome.. endless possibilities for this truck name it s10lazer
That handel idea is amazing. IT will look so cool. IF you are not going to put an LS in it you should put a 2JZ or an RB engine in there :D That would be fantastic
My mom's husband years ago used to have a 82 s-10 blue that he put a 350 motor in it if you don't want to ls1 in a 350 would be great ... you should do a hot rod ... with a digital dash ... I think the suside doors would be very unique ... leather seats power everything ... with a slap shifter .... either blue or black exterior .... and a serious sound system with a touch screen ... give it the modern look
not too big of a fan of the s10 but i am a fan of bringing back rare aftermarket conversion cars that were made by companies. Looking to buy a 1979 toyota supra legato or a 1979 toyota celica tx-22 myself. They are SUPPERRR rare targa top conversions with turbo engine mods and other stuff done to them.
Make it the ultimate parts carrier and work truck! What if you put a diesel in it, and made the interior fully removable? Maybe a Reading back on it, winch, all wheel drive stuff even?? It'd be really ambitious, but cool.
The wheels are stock S10 wheels they came on the more optioned S10's and Blazer's
Definitely strip down I would want to bag it ! !
LS or 350
keep the stock wheels keep it as stock as possible it would look much better
My thoughts exactly. Keep it clean. Maybe do bigger brakes, a little handling work, an ls1. Keep it simple. Make a look like a factory rig.
The main thing that comes to mind is the odd, disjoined window line of those back doors. I know that's how they came on the blazer, but it really doesn't fit the new lines and shape of a crew cab. I saw one made into a crew cab dually it was rad. Def finish the interior and v8 . I'd go all out with this cause it's a rare thing to see.
Full bravada interior turbo 4.3.. I can't wait I have always wanted to see a 4 door s10 I have an 88 2 door with a 4.3 LT
I think the push button handles will be really cool
Also retro fit the flat dash
Yeah get some door handles off a 60s Ford Lincoln that had the suicide doors
Please just keep the doors stock and original honestly it looks kinda weird for a pickup truck.
Well, most of the work is already done. I like the idea of it, it's unique and one of the reasons why I was drawn to it. The trick is finding the best way to execute the rest of it properly.
Saabkyle04 Oh well I guess good luck on the build, I hope you can restore it one day and actually make it look awesome.

Nice find!!
Personally, I’d do a mild resto mod. LS Engine, Automatic with Overdrive, upgraded suspension, wheels and tires, lower it, and obviously body work and paint. Make it a badass truck, but a nice weekend cruiser at the same time.

I think a Vortec 5.3 would be perfect for it tbh
Dev Yeah, good power but nothing crazy. Definitely an option 👍🏻
Put an old corvette motor in it lol. For the door handles, maybe something from an old Suburban or GM Van.
I think a Vortec V8 anywhere between 5.3-8.1 liters.
6.0
A Coyote Swap would actually make it better

LS, lt1 is bunk
I love the way your channel is going. You keep it professional with the car reviews while still having fun doing whatever the heck you want/having a good time. Keep up the amazing concept Kyle!!!
I would love to see you put an ls3 and convert it to a 5-speed and dropped as low as you can get it on airbags
Expensive AF lmao
Why not a T56 SM or TR6060
Why not it's only difference is money
david edelman I agree with the ls3 and 5 speed but putting trucks on low bags is a cancer
Make it a sleeper.

The s10 looks cool but I kinda liked the c10 you got the dash out of better.
1st video I saw of yours was on a S10 Xtreme. Build your own Xtreme with this truck. Bucket seats, 5 Speed Manual, Etc.
64 Lincoln Continental 4 door are suicide doors. Maybe the handles from there would be good
There are so much potential for this unique S-10 custom crew cab I can't wait to see when it's finish.
Big cam 5.3 or turbo 4.3 v6
The MIni Truck is strong with this one, currently have a '95 Dakota Sport as project car myself.
I could see a period correct sport truck with a modernized C4 Corvette drivetrain and exterior/interior styling of a GMC Syclone/ Chevy S10 Xtreme

Saabkyle04 no problem, this is a nice find, so much potential! You have a good eye

Dont be putting no ss badges on somthing that never came from the factory as an ss that would be like me putting some ss badges on my z28 just doesnt make sense. Keep the outside clean and simple.
That dash u took out of the other truck that u called a classic dash has the peace I need
You should make a 2 color truck like the 2014 RAM Pro master van you did a review of 3 years ago.
If the content makes sense late on, it's worth exploring!
Saabkyle04 awesome I’d love to see a 90s sedan (Accord, maxima,Camry ETC..) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!!!!
Go complete 90s mini truck and shave the handles then add remote door poppers! I love the suicide door concept! Definitely would keep that aspect. And make it a bright color with some graphics!
Yes yes yes and yes
Super excited to watch this series! Your channel is still my favorite automotive channel and I have been watching since about 2009, keep it up!
My personal vision: lifted with mud tires, 383 stroker, 6 speed, some sort of paintjob, make it into a 4x4/hot rod style truck
It's originally 2WD so, for cost, probably need to stick with that, but I dig the rest. It's going to be a fun journey!
Saabkyle04 i completly understand :) wish ya the best!
You should definitely find a set of red leather seats to match the retro dash like from a Cadillac Seville or something
Hey Kyle i have an idea for it what about a 383 stroker i think that would be pretty sweet.
Yeah it would!
Solid axle swap lifted on 35s with a 6.0 vortec!
You should drop a 6.0 vortex
Dalton Everts a little much for this vehicle
Too heavy for it
I've got an amazing idea for the S10. Call it crewicide paint it Lincoln Town car black. Leather interior. Maybe a color matched camper shell. If it were me I'd go Ls but use dress up part's. Make it look old school V8.

this has to be one of my favorite TH-cam projects ever. I cannot wait for this!!
Where the hell are you gonna get a driveshaft lol
Easy custom make one.

Ali Saleh Not sure

Let Me Open My Mind
Three things I love: old American trucks, ultra rare vehicles, and project vehicles. This vehicle is all three of these things.
C10 would have been cooler. Sorry.
Hey, different strokes for different folks.
Yes. For sure. However that is really interesting to see an S10 like that one.
Ford used nice push button handles on the trucks and broncos up into the 90s, they're easy to find and would look well in place on the s10
put a hot tub in it
Spencer Thoni 😄
That's traditional 80's for sure
The f150 handles from the early 90s would fit your description with those door handles
When are you gonna change your name back to saabkyle420
I think there’s an obvious reason why he wouldn’t change it back.
That would be a cool truck to do a full sound system in since there’s a lot of room in the cab
A Lift kit would make it look sick. I also think your idea with the doors would be dope
This is cool as hell Kyle - go for the push button door handles!
That's an awesome looking truck. I say: ditch the bed, box and reinforce the frame, make it into a ramp truck (like the Roadkill truck), Silverado HD drivetrain (gasser) and make it your tow truck for the 240 and whatever else project you get in the future.
I think a dual exhaust with a nice deep throaty sound to it and a slight lift will be cool.
This thing is so crazy... I love it! I definitely think you should go LS-based V8. Whether that be a 5.3 or a 6.0, or even a 5.7 LS1.
Put some sport car seats in it, lower it, then drop a small block Chevy in it, get everything fully restored and modernize it and it will be the best truck out there, BTW I live is Mocksville so that’s also cool
Off road trails truck maybe 3 inch lift, aggressive tires, old style LED head lights, 4 wheel drive, power and torque, maybe a matte paint job.

Definitely keep the suicide doors! I think if you put it on bags it would be pretty sweet.

Your videos introduced me to my dream car. A car that I now own. My Buick Reatta! I look forward to this project! And great video as always!
Im really excited for this new project truck. I have an s10 myself so to see this is awesome.
I would go with a LS engine, Blazer interior. And have the exterior looking as sharp as it can be, stock hight, beautiful wheels and those really cool push button doorhandles. 😀
love what ur gonna be doing on this series keep it up.
I like that avalanche parked next to it
wow that's definitely a different s10 looks like it was well put together though... those manuel seats I think would look good in there if you could find bench seats for the back the same style, the back door is just awesome.. endless possibilities for this truck name it s10lazer
Guess I think you should have looked for an old ElCamino. Nothing appeals to me but admire your spunk
Looks great. I have 91 S10 truck 2.5 4cyl 5peed solid frame and body. Runs great. Best offer. Good condition.
Very leather indeed that truck is too nice
not too big of a fan of the s10 but i am a fan of bringing back rare aftermarket conversion cars that were made by companies. Looking to buy a 1979 toyota supra legato or a 1979 toyota celica tx-22 myself. They are SUPPERRR rare targa top conversions with turbo engine mods and other stuff done to them.
You should totally get those Kindig-It Aston Martin style door handles for this truck!
Way to go! It will be in top condition in no time.
Classic dash for sure
Make it the ultimate parts carrier and work truck! What if you put a diesel in it, and made the interior fully removable? Maybe a Reading back on it, winch, all wheel drive stuff even?? It'd be really ambitious, but cool.
