Honestly I came here just because he had medieval armor in the name of the video and I knew he was going to show a shitty replica instead. He exceeded my expectations in that regard.
I’m honestly impressed with how effective the curved armor is. Though, to the initiated, it should come as almost no surprise, seeing how similar concepts are used on tanks. I’ll mention, another YTer also made use of that concept, and 1/4 inch thick steel managed to deflect just about all but .50 BMG. Save for some hotter loads, I think angled/curved armor/plating may yield some actually interesting testing.
It's great if you can predict where the shots will be coming from. Any shot that's not directly head-on will reduce the armor's effectiveness. 45 degrees off and the curvature will have no effect. For tanks you can rotate that armor 90 degrees and any shot parallel to the ground will be deflected either into the ground or the sky. For humans, though, that would just deflect it into your chin or your groin (because you can't feasibly get full coverage with that geometry). Late medieval/renaissance armor was rounded to somewhat increase chances of deflection regardless of where it was coming from, though the armor was thicker in the front and especially vital areas. It also had geometry in place to guide arrows away from the neck region, to keep them from being deflected upwards into the helmet.
There have been lots of tests for the military with that type of system. The problem is that it will deflect into the people standing beside you. It is good for one person with no one standing on either side of them.
To be honest the armor wasnt angled properly if it was angled like tank's it would be more effective as angling armor can effectively increase its thickness twice

@@whatever-hd5vp Stab vests stop a knife stab(almost like its in the name), and most likely a direct sword hit or a long distance arrow. But uhm, there are a lot of gaps in modern armour where you could stab/hit and be lethal, or hit the arms that are mostly unprotected and do a lot of damage. So medieval weapons could easily kill a soldier, if that soldier wouldnt use modern weapons. As soon as there are guns, you would need a whole lot of medieval soldiers to kill a modern one(amount depending on the distance and the weapon used, example: browning M1 with unlimited ammo on a hill 500m away would kill a lot)
@@tomjongman4797 stab proof vests are designed to stop knifes, if you put them against a halbeard/warpick/poleaxe. Or any other anti-armor weaponry of medieval times any stab proof vests are gonna be destroyed, because it's essentially a modernized gambeson (no need of looking for gaps). Now the bullet proof ones are gonna be an interesting test. He should also get someone that can get the edge alignment right for the test. Ofc a single soldier with a M1 would delete a medieval army, there is a reason guns eventually outclassed any other weapon.
@@jordicl4325 In this case i was talking about the most "common" weapon people associate with the middle ages which is the sword. The sword would probably have trouble going through a stab vest and wouldnt go trough any higher rated armour as well, but as you said most anti-armour weapons would likely go through a stab vest. As for higher rated armour, it would depend on the material its made from. Steel plates would be thick enough to stop any(?) medieval weapon, however its only on the front and back(most of the time) meaning a stab/cut in any non-protected area will pretty much be fatal(losing an arm,/getting stabbed in your throat will probably kill you). medieval weapons would work better on ceramics since its brittle, it wont go trough the first time but repeated strikes should weaken it enough for a warpick or halberd to go through. same thing regarding weakspots applies tho. For referance a 170Ib longbow could generate about 150J of energy point blanck, generic 9mm FMJ should be around 500J.

I would love to shoot the 6.5 Grendel one day in my life, I know there are other similar or better firearms to shoot but this one I really like. 6.5 Grendel could have been the new round replacing the 5.56 for the US Army and all you need to change (mostly) would be the uppers of their already existing rifles.
yeah but you know the mil, let's go with something not already on the market and proven. Instead let's come up with unrealistic specs and then be disappointed when all the boxes aren't checked but say "Well, it's still pretty good so we'll run it."
I had an experience with 6.5 Grendel before, so a casing was in my pocket of my sweater once because I had forgotten about it and it fell out while I was at school so the weekend comes and apparently someone decided to report about it because the cops where at my door but I showed them it was a casing and not a useable round as they were told and left and that is my experience with 6.5 Grendel.
Had a similar experience I usually would shoot a bit before school in 6th grade I think, forgot I had a few .22 rounds in my coat pocket one fell out while I was sitting down. Got called to the office sheriffs deputy’s were waiting explained the situation they searched my bag and locker and stuff I had gave them the ammo and that was that pretty rural school so that probably saved me. Lmao always checked my pockets before going though from that point on 🤣
The "unrealistic" armor has a bit of history. Germans wore an armor that had a (kind of) shape like that. I imagine the dudes to the right and left of him weren't to happy with it though.
Those DMRs are really fun to use with a red dot sight while doing the Mozambique method. Always my go to when playing a shooter game. Dmr and a M1911. M110 DMR is probably one of my favorites. Also, that curved body armor is really interesting. As long as you don't have a partner standing next to you 🤣

@habibusaleh I'm here brother
You were pretty slick with that rifle Matt, would love to see a long range contest with Reaper.
The Reaper would be way to busy scared like a baby hiding behind a wall. The Reaper is or was never a good sniper.
Matt: it’s medieval armor
The armor: street signs, ceramic, and carbon fiber.
I think some of the hema youtubers already criticized him for his other video using essentially costume armor. I'm not too surprised but still a little disappointed
This is a fun video, I like them longer and when you mag dump with whatever you’re shooting. The silly melee stuff was cool too
Nice to see 6.5 grendel in action would like to see more long distance too nice shooting matt
I just finished my 12" 6.5 Grendel build the other day. I haven't shot it yet but am anticipating a great time with it.
i bet that thing throws some nasty fireballs😂
Demolition Ranch is on Fuego 🔥🔥 I love this channel.
I love my 6.5 Grendel I've built this past year. Same style setupwise, heavy 20" barrel.
The Amend2 mags are awesome.
Grendel is hard to find up here in Ky too...
Why do you need a gun like that?
@@looksirdroids9134 Why do you care?
Thank you for these amazing videos and we appreciate all the hard work you put in these videos for us thank you and have an amazing day
cant wait to get the demo shirt i ordered the other day!!!!!!!
Suggestion.
You should do a modern armour vs mediaeval weapon.
Yeah let's see how hard it would be to take down a modern soldier in mediaeval times
I think even a hundred modern Soldiers can overthrow any mediaeval state.
That funky, impractical armor...I could see that being useful on a crew served weapon. Wouldn't necessarily want to be an A gunner next to it though.
That armour is useful if you don't mind other people being shot instead of you, it's useless otherwise.
Matt, You should do a video of all the different kinds of walls. Like drywall, stone, brick, and even wood. I would love to see what kinds of walls could stop bullets. Just a suggestion 😁
As a guy who also owns a Faxon 6.5 Grendel... I LOVE THAT ROUND! I'm glad I chose that over the Creedmoor, cause this round SCREAMS! Love this content though, for real. I hope to see more stuff get shot with the 6.5 Grendel
Love the addition of air guns as a starter rather than just .22lr 👍
I also thought the throwing stars were a nice addition
This is, in my opinion, one of the coolest guns you own... Great vid!
There's actually a video on a channel called Ryan & David where they explain the physics of the slanted armor and test it out themselves but with thin flat steel sheets rather than curved.
"So Matt, what firearm would you most like to own?"
Matt: "Yes."
Lol
This is a very classic Demo Ranch style video, loved it.
I’m not sure why we are just seeing melee weapons. It’s hilarious watching Matt’s confidence disappear where the star goes 7 feet about the dummies head 😂
Can't wait to see Shad cover this.
I would love to shoot the 6.5 Grendel one day in my life, I know there are other similar or better firearms to shoot but this one I really like. Also I love these kind of videos because they're interesting to watch, you never know someone could miraculously make a solid armour build made out of plywood and sheeted metal or whatever they can get their hands on, plus Matt's funny humour makes the video 10x better to watch!
This is an interesting way to introduce 6.5 Grendel to the channel. I use it as a better alternative to 5.56
For 3x the price lmfao
@@RSpracticalshooting where are you finding 5.56 for 20 cents a round? Cuz where I'm at, a box of 20rds of 6.5 Grendel is $12, $250 for a case of 500. And I could still find it during the ammo shortage
@@technewb8241 cheapest I could find Grendel for anywhere, including online was $1.40 to $1.80 per round. I can get .556 for .80 per round. That is why I got rid of my Grendel from Aero Precision. It is a cool round though
@@nickamalfitano3613 Ammoseek has Wolf 6.5 for .71 cents a round.
@@MrCooper89 steel cased and dirty, right?
Uh oh, here we go again... *walks outside and yells:* SHAAAADDDDDDD!!!!!
I think they just need to collaborate at this point
But what about dragons?
I love that DMR, probably my new favourite gun of yours alongside Falkor Petra and of course the Barretts. Hope to see more of it in the future
6.5 Grendel has been my favorite caliber since I started shooting and using a hera arms stock with a timney trigger you won't be less than impressed
O joy. The sword and armor community can have yet another video to talk about Matt. Lol. I am sure shad and scal will love to continue to tell you to stop buying wish armor. 😂
Glad I'm not the only one who loves to watch both gun and sword communities
What's worse, nerds that drool over swords or armor? I think it's the ones who pull on their trunk over European swords, and then cry about how their junky swords are better than the Japanese swords.
@@randomsketchystuff5572 ofc, we're all probably "military stuff" guys!

What a nice fast shooting on that star, very impressive!
Imagine being in combat and running out of Grendel. You'd have a really cool hiking stick.
Lol, yeah imagine buying a rifle with relatively difficult to source ammo without having the ability and products to load said ammo X 1000.... minimum
I love it how people dont refer to it as 'ammo' or 'bullets' - they specifically say they are running out of Grendel!.🦆 You never hear people shooting then saying 'im running out of NATO' or 'im down to my last ten Colt'.....
💀🤣
Can still find it relatively cheap. My .270 or .308 on the other hand........... needless to say I'm seriously considering grendal.
Not any different than running out of 5.56 in combat..
I don't know how you keep coming up with these intros but they have me dying of laughing every time🤣
His skill with the throw’s are unmatched love u
6.5 Grendel could have been the new round replacing the 5.56 for the US Army and all you need to change (mostly) would be the uppers of their already existing rifles.
yeah but you know the mil, let's go with something not already on the market and proven. Instead let's come up with unrealistic specs and then be disappointed when all the boxes aren't checked but say "Well, it's still pretty good so we'll run it."
@@oif3vetk9 what boxes weren't checked?
Politicians can’t make enough money off it so they passed

6.5G is by far my favorite round. Still super past 1000 y.
I Love the "Home Made Armor" series, hopefully it will continue for a Long time
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite place on the Citadel.
...I should go
Matt - so I can officially blame you for 6.5 Grendel shortage now!
It's a scam just so you know
That Doug Demuro reference made me happy. Imagine Doug reviewing guns lmao
Lmao always checked my pockets before going though from that point on 🤣
Please don't shoot anyone at your school
@@whlnmchl Oh yeah.. you "forgot". Maybe don't bring guns or anything to do with guns to school.
@@looksirdroids9134 Shut your bag, sir, your malice is showing.
@@looksirdroids9134 mate, its a few .22 round remembering you have them in ur pockets is easier said than done
The "unrealistic" armor has a bit of history. Germans wore an armor that had a (kind of) shape like that. I imagine the dudes to the right and left of him weren't to happy with it though.
After that episode where Matt curved bullets thorugh 100ft of pvc tube, I'm not surprised about the curved armour working
Love my grendel ! Favorite rifle I own !
Those DMRs are really fun to use with a red dot sight while doing the Mozambique method. Always my go to when playing a shooter game. Dmr and a M1911. M110 DMR is probably one of my favorites.
Also, that curved body armor is really interesting. As long as you don't have a partner standing next to you 🤣
They just need their own! It’ll eventually fly back toward the enemy.
For anyone that’s curious: The ox firearm Orn sniper is $4100, no scope. It’s a beast of a rifle!
