You should try to collect all the spent brass and melt it down to see what caliber it could stop. That solid block of brass would be huge and maybe stop a 50.
That would be awesome
He already did brass I believe
Ya he did
Pretty sure anyway
He did the copper ball I don't think he's done a brass plate
The owner of Stealth Armor Systems is the original designer of Dragon Skin. Basically he reacquired the patent rights and improved it with "newest" generation of materials and adhesives.
Unfortunately the Dragon Skin name is sullied by Pinnacle (and the much lesser known manufacturers that tried producing Dragon Skin after Pinnacle went belly up), so people base on their knowledge on a outdated story and try to apply it to Dragon Skin 2022.
Edit: to clarify, the designer sold the design to Pinnacle who produced it and eventually died after the whole drama. Various manufacturers intermittently produced it in small quantities, the original designer started Stealth Armor Systems and eventually reacquired the rights to Dragon Skin and revised it to the 2022 version.
Good to know! They were really nice to let us test this latest version, very impressive!

It was awesome that you did a brief meet & greet with some of us after your EPIC burnout at LS Fest West! Man, no one knows the insane hustling Mr. Camera Man does. It was an ULTRA HOT day at LS Fest West, and Mr. Cameraman just was running all over getting some amazing shots of El Chromino and the aftermath. I’m so happy he’s being more and more recognized because your videos on your channels are very well done, and Mr. Camera man.. we APPRECIATE YOU too man!
So glad to have met both of you!
Great Comment!
Dude, thank you! It means a lot that you recognize everything that goes into making these videos for y'all, not just me either but Jenna and Mikey as well! Thanks for coming out to LS West! I hope I got to meet you and shake your hand! We had a blast despite the heat!
@@David.Lopez.12 Haha you were still running around getting so much footage!! I did say hi and was happy to see you, but you looked so busy with a determined face getting the shots you wanted lol. You did respond back to me, “Hey man appreciate it!” as you were fiercely running around carrying that large camera in that heat; so I had to dart out of your way so I wouldn’t be in your way hahaha. It seems Matt only surrounds himself with people with such great work ethic and it just shows! Thanks for responding back after the burnout; but I was really worried I was in the way and hope none of us (the fans) were a bother!

I’ve been watching you since 2013 now, a couple years back I started watching you on and off as I had my own life. I’ve recently came back to the channel and this is the second video I’ve seen in awhile. How much you have change over the years from basically starting from scratch to now living the dreams you always wanted. You’re honestly a inspiring person to me honestly with the knowledge and love you have for your weapons to the funny and goofy person you are. I just want to it’s been a honour watching your whole channel grow.
Bought two kits from Refuge Medical from a couple videos back. Excellent product (wife’s a nurse and was impressed with how professional the kits were)

It would be awesome to see Bear Independent (owner of Refuge Medical) do a collab! Fantastic partnership!
You should put a pressure pad behind the armor to see how hard the impact is
Excellent idea, that should be a standard. And a decibel meter at the gun and near the target so we can analyse the blast and impact sound. Just added as monitors in the corner of the screen.
Yeah for sure, this would be really cool. Bring some new tech in Matt!
Idea: test the strength of the everyday wallet, with cards and a few coins in there and see what caliber it can stop and then ultimately see how many stops a 50cal..

@Don't Read My Profile Picture Aight, bet
What I was impressed with was the lack of a real depression on the other side of the Lapua impact. Thats a lot of kinetic energy, it looked very survivable. On that hit with the steel core AK, it was a very tight shot on these tiles, looked like an 1", I know from doing a lot of test shooting on armor over 35 years that once you get that close of any kind of ceramic armor the probabilities go down on a close quarter shot especially a steel core bullet. A lot of people look back on that future weapons video and saw the level 3 Dragon Skin stop tons of AK rounds. What they don't know was that was pre silicon carbide SOV 2000 technology, for a short period of time and for that particular vest the Dragon Skin tiles were made of Titanium Alloy, and metal is much tougher than ceramic, but not nearly as hard. The reason for switching to ceramic was weight, as even titanium is much heavier than silicon or boron carbide ceramic. Also, the ceramic addresses hard core rounds better. The other thing about that Future Weapons video they were using lead core FMJ AK rounds. On metal they just mushroom and leave a small ding. Thats how they were able to take 100 rounds, but that technology was discontinued after a short run in favor of silicon carbide ceramic. The very first Dragon Skin back in 1998 was made of Steel tiles, and that was replaced by Alumina Oxide Ceramic tiles in 1999 - 2001. Then came a 1/2 generation of zirconia/alumina hybrid tiles, and then the Titanium Alloy in 2002 - 2003, and then finally Pinnacle moved into Silicon Carbide. FYI!
As someone who's been in the ballistic armor industry, what do you see as the newest developments in armor materials? Mixed carbide sintering? Functionally graded nanomaterials?
@@majordakka5743 Depends on the market, those materials at least in the near future are super expensive. I remember 20 years ago I gasp at the first price quote I received for wanting to use Boron Carbide, now it's not so bad and the only B4C that is still pricey is the HIP'ed stuff (Hot Iso-static Press). Densification of the matrix has added better performance for B4C as well as SiC. I know that Diamond Edge has tried some things with SiCTiB2 hybrid. This has some good performance without the weight or cost increase that B4C has. There have been numerous tests on nanotube infusion of B4C, and host of others. I would say for now you will see premium densified B4C come down in price further since it's fairly commercialized, and the densification process has really upped it's performance at thinner tiles. I really good B4C can work in a level 4 plate at 8mm, where it used to take 10mm. Since it's already commercialized I see that as a trend moving forward also better textiles are in the works for the next generation. SB117 and Spectra 5128 have been on the market now
There will be a new fiber coming that's even better at least in the UDPE product-line, aramid doesn't really have any real generational increases left, maybe the return Zylon that has the kinks worked out so it doesn't require super special handling and packaging to work for 5 years. I know we had no issues with t and it's because we used a true one way membrane bagging system, so hot moist air left, but didn't come back. We tested a 5 year old vest and it worked well. It also might be because we didn't try and cheapy it up like Second Chance did.
Design work will also play a roll, you can see that in our DS 3.0, The edge. Essentially when money isn't the issue and we can use what we want and do every advanced process because the price tag is out there, not many takers for that, but we have sold a couple, some people have lots of money and want the absolute best you can get. So after all that jibber jabber, even on high performance and new design concepts I think it's really about the taking what is commercialized and making it cheaper and better.
SB117 and Spectra 5128 have been on the market now for 10 years
Hearing so little about it until recently makes a lot of sense to me now. Only ever saw it on a show (likely Future Weapons back on cable tv) and hadn't heard a peep since. Always wondered what happened with it.
What are your thoughts on "Talin shock absorbing material" as a futuristic ballistics material? Too new? Hype? Good potential?
Dude, that ending was beautiful to watch!!!
Mowing him down on full-send, both with armour and without... Just an absolute picture of beauty!

You know that armor is serious business when Matt starts off with .50 AE as the SMALLEST round and doesn't even bother with anything under that.
Can you do a quick rundown on how to use each item in the emergency pack? It should be really usefull for everyone.
Totally stoked to see more of the abandoned resort
We did that with a label maker once when I was in junior high. We started outside school and then just put a label on (almost) everything that we passed on the way home. I mean "TREE" only made it on to one tree because who needs that kind of redundancy. There was "MAN HOLE", which I know Matt can appreciate. We had "CAR", "STOP SIGN", etc. We felt pretty clever at the time (1987) but I'm guessing that we weren't the first 🤣
Awwww man! We did that too back in the 90's but we labeled each other's backs with words I won't repeat here😂
Matt with a label maker is like my kid with post it notes 😂

So great to see another company pick up the Dragons' Skin concept. Thanks for the fun video, Demo Crew~!
It’s the same guy, he started a new company according to other comments
The main reason we stopped carrying them (if you have something better) was angle shoots/splinter.
Head on it was good but from the side 35° all around (especially lying down from BH) it did bot work. Also on a solid Plate if it did not break it was good for second shoots andit did not break with one 5,56 or 7,62
Matt's skit intros make these videos even better, perfect balance between wholesome and chaos

What's funny about you getting a Mjolnir is I have always thought of you as the Thor of the GunTuber community, Brandon Herrera very much fits the Tony Stark cocky, quirky drinker vibe, Scott from KB loves to smash things like the Hulk, Garrand Thumb has the on screen demeanor of Captain America, Admin Results is very much a Deadpool, and I'm sure at some point Alex Xedra did the Black Widow cosplay thing. Sometimes you guys fit those personas so well, I almost think its intentional.
Thumb as Captain America and Admin Results as deadpool is perfect lol

The only 338 Lapua mag i own so far is the Savage model 111 but i love it. It reliably puts all five rounds in a six inch target at 500 yds. That round doesn't even wake up in the morning untill it passes 1200 yrds.
I think it's crazy that this armor keeps coming back. This design is literally thousands of years old. Before they had the technology to forge solid breastplates, they used something called lamellar armor, lots of small plates that overlapped. Then in the 14th century or so, it came back as the brigandine, which put the plates on the inside of a vest. Now we see dragon skin. Literally every culture from Japan through western Europe used a form of this armor at some point in history.
You channeled your inner-Kentucky at the end. Enjoyed the video!
By far the most enjoyable gun show on TH-cam. Thanks for being so dang entertaining
If matt wants anything, he gets it. Must be nice. ❤
Was actually looking into this armor a few weeks ago. According to what I could find the original dragonskin armor failed military testing due to rounds getting through the overlapping plates missing them completely.
It was a fiasco of possible politics, possible failure, and unproven environment testing.
from what i could see on the wiki, it seemed due to mostly politics and classified testing data that im not sure if they released or not? there was a lot of weird stuff.
I read it was related to it not being able to operate at temperatures of 80 degrees C+. But I was sat there reading that thinking no soldier could operate at that temperature either, they'd be cooked...
@@glenpeters9388 In Vietnam, Khe Sanh, specifically, they made Marines throw their flak vests in a pile because so many soldiers were passing out from heatstroke. However, that's a different issue from the armor actually breaking down. If the armor fails after being cooked, something as simple as keeping it in a hot AFV could render it ineffective permanently.
@@glenpeters9388 Soldiers could absolutely be exposed to that and higher temperatures, though. If, for example, your vehicle is hit and catches fire, suddenly 176 degrees is child's play. You won't be there long, but you may be there long enough to ruin your body armor.
Such cool armor!!

After seeing Matt put the desert eagle in his waist band, it just makes me want that to be my concealed carry now.

Bruh, taking a sponsored link for a med kid on a shot like this? Total bro move, you are showing yourself to be a safety bro and I 100% approve. For everyone else, be a bro and bring a medkit to the range, probably never going to be needed but you might save someones life, or their hand, be this level of bro!
It must be awkward telling Norma the ammo you need isn’t 338 Norma magnum but rather the Lapua offering!!! They did win the military contract.
Can a deep fried gun still shoot? A breaded gun? It's time to find out Matt
That sounds more like a Brandon Herrera video. Bring back the “will it AK?” series!!

This armour was tested a few years back by some friends of mine. They actually found that after a few days of use, the disks would move around and eventually create a hand full of gaps in the armour which would let round pass, hence why it was never adopted into any armys and was banned in some to stop people buying an ineffective product.
