- In this video we finish this build with chipping and weathering as well as adding soot and of course getting the model completely assembled of TAMIYAs Vought F4U-1A Corsair in 1/48 Scale.
The Vought F4U-1A Corsair, also known as the "Corsair", was developed in the early part of WWII as a carrier aircraft in response to the Zero. It was found that the Corsair had poor visibility and would stall the left wing in a slow approach for landing. However, it really came into its own being based on island airstrips in the pacific. The British also used the Corsair from aircraft carriers and solved the approach and stall problem in carrier landings.
This is kit No. 61070
I hope you enjoy the video!
Hi Johnny. As always this is a brilliant job. The painting work is awesome. I'm really impressed. All these weathering techniques are very good and useful for my incoming builds of my Corsair. Thanks again my friend for your patience, kindness and professionalism. Hope to see more videos like these ones. Have a good day and keep modeling on. Best regards from France. François
Thank you very much François! You are too kind my friend. I'm happy that you enjoyed the build, it was my first Corsair ever, I've always wanted to build one! Good luck with your Corsair, I am sure yours will be fantastic! Stay safe and model on!! Johnny
Hi Johnny, brilliantly done, really glad you chose the folded wing version as the hillbilly green does it justice as does all the hillbilly colour call outs you do, as you know I'm a big fan. The tamiya weathering pads remind me of eye shadow make up my mum used to use 😂. Stay safe, can't wait for Friday, enjoy your week my friend 👍
Hi Ian, really great praise my friend. I will endeavor to earn it. I think you're right, it looks like Tamiya patterned their weathering kits after makeup cases. In fact, you can find brushes very similar to Tamiya's on Amazon in bulk packs. I'm happy the colors turned out on our little Corsair, that's a relief! Thanks for watching, have a great week buddy!! Johnny
Great job Johnny, love the weathering and panel line accents on the Corsair👍
Thanks David👍it came out nice, first ever corsair! Take care and model on!! Johnny
Awesome work Johnny. Very realistic model. Have a great weekend. Thanks
Thank you Jimmy, it came out better than I could have hoped for. Kind of makes me want to build another Corsair, I can see how this aircraft could be addictive! LOL. have a great weekend buddy, see you next Friday. Johnny
Man, what a glorious result, it just looks stunning! Your choice of paints is excellent, and so is your care for details. Great job, buddy 👍👏👏👏
Thank you very much Mike! Most of the time I'm pretty sure how things will look, but, I wasn't so sure on my "hillbilly navy blue", but it all came together in the end, LOL. Take care and have a great week buddy!! Johnny
Wow! it really pops, Johnny. I just love the finished product, it looks fantastic. Sorry for playing catch-up but life got in the way!
Hi Gerry, thanks for the compliment. Everything tied together in the end, lol. Take care and model on!! Johnny
Excellent job once again my friend!! Very enjoyable Corsair series!
Hi Chuck! Thanks so much for watching, it was a great build, I wasn't so sure about my "navy blue" mix but it did allow the roundel to show up which was a relief to me, lol. Overall I'm very pleased with how it all turned out. Take care my friend, have a great weekend and hope to see you next Friday! Johnny

Thank you Raymond, I really appreciate it my friend! Tell Rachel for me that she has great taste, and I guess I got lucky in my decision to have the wings folded. If you want to know if something looks good, just ask a woman! LOL! I do. You guys have a great weekend, hope to see you next Friday, take care and model on! Johnny
I'm telling on you! 😅
Great build. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks John, I have to admit it came out better than I thought it would. I got lucky with the color selection. Thanks so much for watching, take care and model on my friend. Johnny
Well done mate, enjoyed watching the build…..wings folded look good for something different, cheers!
Thanks Micheal👍I just thought that having the wings folded would give us a chance to see the wonderful detail of those joints, I'm pleased with the look. Thanks so much for giving it a look, have a great weekend my friend! Johnny
@@hillbillymodeling thank you….you too!
Hey Johnny, I know I've said this before, but I'll say it again, what a beautiful model! Very well done ! Can't wait to see what you have for us next. Thanks buddy😃
Thanks Vincent, I really appreciate it buddy!! I have to admit, I wasn't too sure about the dark "hillbilly navy blue", but it really does work in this color scheme. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then, lol. Have a great weekend my friend, model on! Johnny
😂😂you too, my friend.
Great conclusion to an awesome kit eh! thanks for sharing have an awesome weekend Johnny ✌Canada✌
Hey James, thank you so much! It did come out nicely, I wasn't so sure there for a minute especially with that "hillbilly navy blue", lol. But, in all came together in the end, thanks so much for watching, have a great weekend buddy. Hope to see you next Friday. Johnny
Hey Johnny the Corsair looks great catching up on this great looking build k.u.t.g.w.
Hi Jeff, I have to admit, it came out better than I had hoped. It's a great kit even if it is an older kit. I really appreciate you taking the time to look in, it means a lot! Take care and model on my friend! Johnny
Wonderfull job done on this bird Johnny! Weathering came out spot on and you did good use of tamiya weathering powders (something i rarely see beeing used). Looking forward to see what you build next, thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend!
Many thanks George, I rarely use the Tamiya weathering sets but they work really well and are very controllable unlike those loose pigment powders. I think I will start using them more often. thanks for watching, take care and model on my friend! Johnny
Beautiful. I'm about to start this kit soon, after about a 30 year hiatus. Your vids make it less intimating.
You can do it Rob, it's a Tamiya, that helps a lot!! Have fun with your build my friend and thanks for watching! Johnny
2 questions, it looks bigger than 1/48 ? And are them modeling books in the background or used for reference 🤔, thank you for your video, very cool to see someone my age 😀
Hey Mike, yes, it's 1/48 scale. The Corsair was, and still is, a large aircraft. Much larger than its common foe the Zero. As to those books, well it's a mix, one on machining and gearing ratios, a Hornady reloading manual, (for one of my other hobbies, lol) and the binders for the instruction manuals of all of my past builds on the channel. I still get questions about builds that I did three years ago on the channel and keeping these helps "jog" my memory when trying to answer those, LOL! It always seems that no matter how good my notes are on any build, there are things that I need help remembering! I'm happy that you enjoyed the build, thanks so much for tuning in, enjoy your weekend, take care and hope to see you next Friday! Johnny
👍👍
Thanks so much! Enjoy your weekend!! And, Model on!! Johnny
Greatbuild
Thanks! I do recommend this kit, it's a great build. Thanks for watching, take care and model on!! Johnny
😎 Excellent work sir ,love the Corsair awesome plane . One notes a Takom King Tiger behind your left shoulder ,y'all gonna make it ?
Thanks Steve, I really enjoyed the Corsair, one of my very favorite plans of WWII. And, yes, I'll get around to it sometime. That particular kit has a full interior, so that's like building 3 models all in one, something I haven't committed to as of yet! Thanks so much for watching, take care my friend. Johnny
