This channel is where I show you my approach to building model kits. I believe scale modeling is a journey in the discovery of history, function, purpose, creativity, and art. Now I will be the first to tell you that I am no expert on the subject of scale modeling, in truth I am merely an amateur. Scale modeling is a hobby for me, and as with all hobbies, it is something that is to be enjoyed. In each project I try something new and different and learn a new skill, or a new lesson, often both.
I hope that by watching these videos there is something that you can take away and add to your arsenal of creativity.

OH-13 Sioux by Italeri, Kit Review
In this video we take a look at what Italeri has provided for us in their Bell OH-13 Sioux helicopter kit.
The Bell OH-13 Sioux is one of the most iconic helicopters in aviation history. It was developed right after WWII and began service with the US Army in the late 1940s. It is most memorable as the helicopter that was featured in the hit TV series "MASH" and many of these choppers are still flying today.

This looks a great little kit of a great little Helicopter..Some great versions and the U.S Air Cav version is an interesting option along with the Aussie version,both in Vietnam..But there is some other colourful versions. Bell didn't name it "Sioux." It's a US Army tradition for naming their aircraft in honor of Native American tribes, with a few exceptions.
I've had so many comments on this I had to do some research on it, which, I guess, will teach me to say anything off the cuff again without exhaustive research. It turns out that once it was an army regulation which was discontinued and now it is considered a tradition. However, there are some army helicopters that are not named after tribes, like the Blackhawk, which was the name of and American Indian, not a tribe. Then there was the Sikorsky Sky Crane, which isn't an Indian Tribe, the Cobra which is a snake, and some others that just had nomenclatures. So, there you go. I hope that will set the record straight and that you will forgive me for my inaccuracy. Thanks for watching. Take care and model on my friend. Johnny

just viewed part 2 painting video great airbrush technique with the pre shade and final coat and the waterline masking routine.i will be brush painting entirely using tamiya x acrylics with paint retarder,ive built one boat the tamiya pbr and masked and reversed masked waterline came out well for brush painting.i have learned the hard way not to have paint on the glueing surfaces,so the process for brush painting is different than airbrushing at least with the method ive used.am going to purchase this kit soon.
It's not a bad kit Jeff, some little fit issues but nothing you can't fix. I have the PBR kit which I plan to get around to building sometime, just seems like there is always another kit that comes along and gets in the way. Thanks for watching my friend. Johnny

very informative and usefull vid,cutting parts off sprue leaving tag end then cutting again makes it easier to remove excess plastic and prevents damaging parts while cutting off sprue due to thick plastic,test fitting then fixing defects,using a larger drill bit to remove burrs after drilling,are all good ideas question there was a part that had the benches that was not square how did you make that area a ninety degree angle was it by adding a piece of styrene?am going to watch the next vid on painting i use brush painting along with rattle can tamiya fine surface spray primer.am going to purchase this kit.

It was a joke, one that you obviously didn't get. I hate explaining jokes, it takes the humor out of it, but for you I will. General George S Patton said that the British and the Americans were two peoples that were separated by a common language, something that I also find funny. One look at the languages on the box and you should be able to see that the languages are designated with a flag, none of which is and American flag, just the UK, and there is the joke, all meant in good humor. Are you sanding on top of the model while the glue is drying? What about dust contamination?
You need to let cement dry before attempting to sand it Sal, as for the Perfect Plastic Putty, it's water soluble and is easily smoothed out using a cotton bud and a little water, thanks for watching. Johnny

Looks nice and I'm looking forward to this build. Apropos MASH (big fan here): do you know about the kits Revell did on the MASH theme? The swamp scene with Hawkeye, a medical scene with Hot Lips, and your chopper! I've tried for a while to get my hands on all three to build a larger diorama, but so far I only have one (swamp). They go for impossible prices on Ebay 😞
Those classic kits really do bring high prices, especially when they are out of production Mike. I try to keep an eye out for interesting subjects. Never know when you will run across a good deal. Take care and model on buddy! Johnny

Not just Bell, but all US Army helicopters are named after different tribes. Sikorsky-- Blackhawk, Choctaw Hughes--Cayuse

Well, "all" is a bit too optimistic 🙂 Sikorsky Sea King, Bell Cobra, Cessna Skyhook, Boeing Sea Knight, MH-6 Little Bird, Sikorsky Sea Stallion, Sikorsky Super Stallion come to mind. Just to name a few - there are so many others. And many had no names at all, just their type designations.

FS numbers are "Federal Standard" colors assigned by the DoD considered to be the "official" color for a piece of equipment. You see them a lot on the old Testor's Model Master enamels; but you can still find other references for them.

I've only been modeling for a few years now and dont know everything about it yet, my question is what is the Carson sticker on the box in the lower right of the box, I have a few kits that have that but dont know why
Sorry, I have no idea what the sticker is referring too. I Googled it and it came up as a "Carson Sticker" is a sticker featuring the name or logo associated with Carson. Which could refer to a person, a geographical location, of even a brand or organization. Yeah, really informative right?😁😁

A great start to the new year with a helicopter build. I'm wanting to build a helicopter too as a start off for this year. I plan to build ICM's 1/48 AH-1G Bell Cobra gunship from the Vietnam war. It comes with the M8A1 landing mat which should make a nice display base to put the kit on. Also, when you see a FS number for paint it refers to set Federal Standard color used by governments and suppliers for procurement and specifications of paint. Many brands of hobby paints will claim their paint matches a FS number code for different colors. There are a lot of nice paint schemes for that kit.

Hi James, hope you had a nice Christmas and New Years. I think you might be confused, there was never an aircraft carrier named USS Arizona, The Arizona was a battleship which was sunk on December 7, 1941, at Pearl Harbor Hawaii. We even built a memorial over the sunken ship in honor of the sailors that die there. But to answer your question, I don't have any build videos of the USS Arizona or any aircraft carriers, take care. Johnny

Love your work. When it comes to weathering, there's always the temptation to overdo it, but you really hit that sweet spot of doing just the right amount in my opinion.
