I've probably done over a 1000 manual landings ( not including crashes) and I'm very proud of the effort and patience required to become proficient at landing manually. ardupilot (with a pitot and lidar) makes my landings look like terrible, like I have done no practice whatsoever. The only type of landing that I can perform "better" than ardupilot is a very short landing area and stall the plane about 2 foot of the ground after bleeding enough speed during approach. if i did more research into the settings ardupilot could probably do STOL better than me. brilliant video as always
Ardupilot automated landing, when setup correctly, is a thing of beauty. But, it takes a lot of tweaking to get it to the level of an experienced pilot. You'll see some of the 'fun' in the final video in the mini-series.. Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 I had quite a few bum twitchy moments in getting set up properly but it was well worth the effort. The best reaction I got I was flying at a local event (community event not a rc club event) and with a home made foam biplane and the landing was uphill with a cross wind and ardupilot brought in down flawlessly. The president of the local rc club commented saying it was a very good landing considering conditions and was shocked and amazed when I told him it was an auto landing. I put the plane back in the air and started the landing sequence and put the trans down on the table within reach in case of a problem and it landed perfectly. only positive interaction i've had with a local rc club regarding flight controllers etc.
Great video as usual Lee. Do you think you can make a more in-depth video with the usual fixed wing tuning routine - autotune(worth mentioning SMAX parameter here), then log analysis and manual adjustment of PID parameters to get the best tune? Cheers.
Question here. Great video. Thank you. I usually do not set up missions, I just use for RTL and stability functions. One thing I am confused on. Does the mission get deleted after cycling power on the flight controller? I made the land mission and wrote it to the flight controller. However, after I disconnected the flight controller and reconnected, the mission is gone. I also save it to my computer so I am assuming each time you get your plane ready to fly you must re-write the mission? Thanks!
I have used hobbywing 40 amp esc in rcplane during autoland the reverse thrust is not working and the motor is beeping after landing. If anyone knows about this please let me know

Ardupilot has excellent documentation. But Ben adds all the little bits. Very helpful
A nice Arduplane series. Thank you Ben and Lee for sharing these insights. ♥👍👍
Thanks! Perfect timing, as I am getting closer to finishing my first arduplane (w/ LIDAR).

Thanks for the idea, I'll add it to the list! Happy flying
Very good attempt. Pls keep releasing new episodes
Thanks for all the info, Lee and Ben! 😊
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Check out my video on setting up missions. They stay in the flight controller even after a power cycle... Happy flying
Nice, I press RTL and I go for a smoke with ardupilot.
Very impressive.
Thank you! Very useful Infomation
Thanks for the info
Can you do an inav autolanding video as well?
One in the works at the moment... Stay tuned!
@@Painless360 nice! I'm looking forward to it!

Nice!
What's with the shake launch hmmm? 😀
Check out my video on it... Happy flying
Nice
😮
