    clear food wrap over the top of the seed tray to germinate the seeds that need light. bottom water tray if it needs some moisture.

      Heard that! Thanks for the tips! We actually did start some of our own this season. But for $30 for 128 tray. I think it’s still better off to just order them from banner greenhouse 🤷🏻‍♂️ they just show up a few days before I plant them. Thanks for watching 🙏

      @@chefsharvestfarm yeah, 30 for a 128ct tray is worthwhile buying and using the start space for something else.
      Might want to consider growing Papalo, Mexican herb that is in demand fresh at Mexican restaurants, and some regular restaurants use it as a cilantro substitute.
      Another one to think about would be sprouted coconuts.
      You buy the husked nuts wholesale from the terminal produce market or a distributor, around 60-75 cents each. Put on soil surface, shade area is best,
      give them some water, they root from the eyes.
      In 4 months or so, they have sprouted roots and started growing a stem/leaf, when its about 8 inches tall, ready to harvest, pull out of ground, cut off roots.
      The inside becomes an edibible sponge and is popular with chefs when they can get it. Also big with the health food stores and restaurants, its a niche market.
      Wholesale they are $6 each in competitive markets,
      you might be able to get a little more.

    I admire you dedication and drive to do organic gardens. Which are the most labor intensive, hardest and timely, gardens to grow.
    And, $4.00 for celery your celery is a great price, for home grown, organic celery. Store bought shit doesn't even compare to the taste of your celery. If anyone says any different, they've never had fresh, home grown, organic, celery. You're doing a great job on the videos, keep at it, it will grown!!!

    Hey Chef Mikey! Asking you another question! Do you manage to over winter your celery? If not what do you replace it with over those winter months?

    • @chefsharvestfarm
      @chefsharvestfarm  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I’ve grown it into the winter pretty far before. But it is super sensitive to the cold. It requires a double layer of ag-50 inside a high tunnel if it’s going to be below 20 degrees or so. in the winter the only things I’m planting are lettuce, arugula, and spinach.

    Damn Chef, you are taxing on those prices. You wouldn't sell shit at the farmers markets here in South Carolina.

    • @chefsharvestfarm
      @chefsharvestfarm  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Well… glad I ain’t in South Carolina 😂 i compare my prices to the produce isles in Whole Foods, and my neighbors at the market 🤷🏻‍♂️don’t think my prices are any higher. Plus I don’t charge sales tax. I sell it all here no problem. I can’t grow enough of it! I’ll admit the market here is really good. And a lot of higher income people shop at our market. But the majority of my sales are to restaurants every week. Then I just take whatever is left over to the market. So I’ll change my prices depending on how much product I’m trying to move. But I mostly sell everything I grow at these types of prices. I’m also very intentional about my target clientele. I scoped out this market and knew this is where the rich people shop. Then before I actually started going to markets. I started selling to some of the really high end restaurants in town. Plus being really active on social media, posting gorgeous pictures of my garden. It’s free marketing. All of these things combined give people the perception that it’s worth the extra dollar.

      @@chefsharvestfarm I couldn't agree more. My comment was not a one off at you so much as my frustration with the cheap asses at my local farmers market.
      Dude, it's so bad here that I actually just dropped growing organically altogether and have started using pesticides/synthetic fertilizer. These people get what they pay for, in other words.
      I do have about 20 50 ft. beds I grow in organically (no-till) and that all goes to one nice high class restaurant.
      You are lucky you have a good market in your area. Rock on playboy!

      @@AnenLaylle7023 Somehow I missed your reply a few weeks back! But yes, I have realized lately that many of my weekly customers at market are doctors, lawyers, and I also just learned that one person who buys from me weekly is the Mayors husband! I am surely blessed with a good market and we get about 6000 people who walk by my booth every week. With dozens of restaurants around...
      There are definitely people who wouldn't buy my produce based on price. But I don't need those people... I'm not trying to feed the poor... I'm trying to feed people who don't mind to pay a little more for high quality produce. That being said after a couple years of doing farmers markets. I have let the restaurants decide what I grow based on what they buy in bulk. And whatever I have left over goes to the market. And I only grow crops that are ready for harvest in 60 days or less.
      Maybe it's a good idea for a video - "How to get an extra dollar for your produce" or something to that effect!

      @@NBarSMicrogreens honestly I am at the point where I’d rather order everything than raise my own seedlings for hand transplanting. But mostly I’m using the paper pot transplanter. But I’m pretty sure it’s cheaper to just buy flats. Problem is sometimes with shipping they arrive upside down. But that can be easily avoided by driving to pick them up yourself. I really struggled raising seedlings in the summer this year. We get about 100 days over 100. Much easier to have the seedlings just show up when I need them

      I am in my first year market gardening, and my friends offered me the whole half acre and 30x96' greenhouse for 2025. And like your I'm mostly solo working it. So I appreciate all the info on how to best approach that! (Likely most of the uncovered space is going into cover crop for next year until I get a better handle on systems)

    Thanks for the info on the celery disease. I had some of that this year but not until after doing 4 or 5 cut-and-come-again harvestings. I actually thought it may have been related to the repeated harvestings or lack of water.

    • @chefsharvestfarm
      @chefsharvestfarm  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Heck yeah! I think this is my fourth time growing celery using starts from banner green house. And it gets a little better every time. This is definitely the best celery I’ve ever grown. But I had similar results to what you’re describing in the past. I’ll have to do an update after the holidays and see how the plants are holding up after several weeks of harvest. I have a hard time keeping them watered for sure. They always seem dry. I think they just soak it all up!
